This is actually the first Sam Cooke I've really heard, outside of A Change Is Gonna Come.
The 13th Floor Elevators - The Psychedelic Sounds Of..
This is alright - has a couple of great songs, even - but that electric jug just makes the same goddamn sound through the background of every single track.
And now I'm also listening to some Gin Blossoms.

Superpeer why are you surprised, they're a great power pop band. "Hey Jealousy" and "Found Out About You" are two of my favorite singles of the 90's.
i like a couple of theirs but i forget the titles. i think "follow you down" and "you lonely people" are by them?
Dave de Sylvia
10-24-2006, 05:45 PM
The one with the arrowed heart. I wish it really was their best tracks but it really tapers off towards the end for me.
Sam Cooke's Portrait of a Legend is pretty much the perfect collection of tracks, and his Live From Havana (or whatever it's called) is also essential.

Once you play it you won't say that. I don't associate it with playing real guitar in a any way, just a video game.

Jurassic 5 played here a few months ago and dropped their support act (a local hip hop group) because they didn't want to be supported by a group that plays "real instruments." I didn't find out about it until later anyway, but I thought it was pretty lame.
Today I've been listening to Hanoi Rocks, Rose Tattoo and Sinéad O'Connor. It's been that sort of day, whatever that's meant to imply.

Cocteau Twins - Head Over Heels
Is that good? I remember hearing a track from it on Untitled; 1970, and intended to make it my next Cocteau Twins purchase, but that plan seems to have fallen by the wayside.
Anyway, I've been continuing to dig plenty of soul, along with the new album Twin Zero managed to sneak out past me; it's even better than their first one, if you like that kind of thing, and Karl Middleton is still one of my favourite vocalists. I also listened to the Wildhearts' Geordie in Wonderland live album for the first time, but didn't dig it all that much. The songs are there (and it's a decent set), but everything else that makes the Wildhearts great (energy, character, banter, etc) seems to be missing. Not to mention the sound quality isn't exactly optimal. The best thing about it is the audience, really, who are spot on as ever, despite not being given much.
I'm also looking forward to digging the new Jools Holland later tonight.
