You need to hear "Disintegration". Robert Smith defintiely scares me though. The only song I've heard off Boys Dont Cry is the title track but it rules.

Yeah it's pretty melodramatic, but it doesn't really bother me with them.

Honestly, Disintegration is pretty essential. If you're interested at all, check out the song Fascination Street.

And since this threads gone off track a bit: right now I'm digging De La Soul, because I just heard The Grind Date on the radio.

As of late, I've been switching genres randomly with my mood. I'm feeling that emo void which much be filled by the perfect album for the moment. Been writing some lyrics/poetry that I'm quite happy with too. g/f and stress from school are helping that along.

Rilo Kiley
Justin King

I suppose I'm trying to mix styles w/feelings and other styles. See if I can get creative in any way possible. I'm trying to find out what I want to do with my life (picking a major, girlfriend, life...). Plenty of things are being pondered right now. I'm looking for the right musical influences to alter my situation and decisions positively, or at least how they should affect me. Kinda deep. IM me and we can talk. It'll be wholesome and worth while.

I know I said a few weeks ago that The Levellers were my new record for taking a long time to check out a band - just over two years - but I found a new winner already. The Cocteau Twins.

I remember back in February 2002, literally just when I'd joined, posting in an R&M thread about electronica/great female singers, I think. This thread (thanks to Orb and a couple of others who have long since left) got me into Massive Attack (via Teardrop) and Bjork, and recommended the Cocteau Twins (again, somewhat via Teardrop, when I reported back that I knew and loved it). Here I am, November 2004, having just bought my first Cocteau Twins album. 32 months to check someone out is pathetic :(

Anyway, I think I'm falling in love with Liz Fraser's voice. That's the only real point of this post.

Okay, my ex-girlfriend made me this cd a looong time ago and I need to know who sings this one song that goes kinda like this:

I wanted to see birds
So you took me to the sea
I felt like I could fly against the sky you showed to be
Airplanes passed above us
So only I could hear
When you whispered 'I love you'
So softly in my ear
These are the best days
These are the best days

...so on and so forth
it is a chick singing too

Oh, and so i'm not completely irrelevant, These Arms are Snakes are a really good band, check out Criteria if you like them.

Haha, they may not be your style but what the hell! They are a duo - drums and bass, but they produce the densest, heaviest and craziest music ever. "How long have you been listening to Lightning Bolt?" is the question here. Their music is exciting for awhile, because it is different from most other things. The problem is that none of their stuff is different from everything else they've recorded. It's all this same mess of bass and drums that sounds anything but exciting once you've gotten past the initial surprise of how "wild" they are.

Could be your uh, situation. ??

It's a bloody brilliant album. It's really quite cathartic.

Iai
11-22-2004, 04:14 PM
It is really cathartic, you're right. It amazes me how stunningly its hit the nail on the head, emotionally - it's actually pretty child-like; lyrically, the way things are expressed; but it gets straight to the heart of things. And there's so much emotional confusion and frustration in there, too. It's like puberty set to music.

It's partly my situation, partly the fact that we discussed Madame Butterfly in Music, and partly because of some stuff I went through last year it also reminds me of. It wasn't like, revelling in pain though. I found it pretty uplifting. Like you said, cathartic.

Tangy zizzle
11-22-2004, 04:19 PM
It is lyrically simple isn't it. Take Butterfly for instance, such a basic song with almost juvenile lyrics, but it works. It works so so well.

Across The Sea is another totally basic song, but it happens to be the best (IMO) on the disc.

Man I love Pinkerton.

I'm listening to DIllinger Escape Plan trying to grasp why people in my jazz forum are saying that they have jazz elements. I'm tired of people mistaking "odd time signatures" for "jazz." It's not even close to the same thing.

However, DEP aren't a bad band.

I've been diggin' ditches... no seriously.

All I seem to listen to these days is TV On The Radio, Hot Snakes, Weezer and JSBX.

Meh.

I'm really into Colin Newman's solo stuff right now. I wasn't expecting much from a solo artist.
