I was reading a review of The Hard Road that said it improved upon The Calling and I said "no it ****ing didn't!" and listened to The Calling instead.
I like that battle rap song, where the one MC is like "Ignorance is bliss and you're a happy mother****a"
Bedhead. Bedhead is cool.

Meh, I suppose. I just liked having it all prominent like.
Anyways... I think I've come to the point where new music just doesn't do it for me anymore. I havn't gotten into any new bands for months, and whenever I go into a record store; they either don't have what I want or I just wanna buy what I already own. I dunno if it's me getting comfortable and stale or just there's nothing good coming out anymore.
That said, the bands that I do like are still putting out the goods, so I guess that's some consolation.
The Ponys - Another Wound
Cougars - Nice, Nice
JSBX - Acme
Pavement - Wowee Zowee
Meat Puppets - Up On The Sun

Serge Gainsbourg in the morning. I had a weird dream last night, can't really remember it but I've been up since 3am. Bonnie and Clyde is like java, and I'm not talking scripting. Two weeks from now, I hope to have put together a Francophile theme show for my radio thing. This week, I'm doing an ode to seasonal change through soul tunes. It's all done, took me a whole hour but in the meanwhile I've been schooling myself on the awesomeness that is Stevie Wonder's "Superwoman." Amazing song.

Falso. The Cure have some wicked singles and like 3 awesome albums, and everything the Smiths recorded is utter genius and should be the source of comparison for all music that has come after it, making them the second best band ever after The Hold Steady.
But really though, the Smiths sort of rule.

Currently listening to some soul odds and ends. Prince's 3121, Jaheim's Ghetto Classics (truly fantastic album on occasion) and some Irma Thomas thing I bought this afternoon. Soul has produced pretty much the most quality consistent musics in the history of pop musics. Best genre forever and always.

I realize you're probably annoyed from an excuse such as this, but it took me awhile to get into them. I had to listen to Separation Sunday a few times and read through the lyrics before it really caught on. Finn's content is a really vital aspect of their records; it's what gives the band their significance and their greatness. Separation Sunday really hooked me in with the secular stories infused with Christian themes/references - it's fascinating. Boys and Girls in America isn't as thematically overt (nor a concept album), but it still has a lot of interesting things to say about youth. After only a few listens, I'm already falling for it.

mr_jackalope
10-04-2006, 12:12 AM
Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers is the only other one that comes close, and I enjoy that one immensely as well. It's a much more subdued, alt. country record. "Fashion Coat" and "It Never Happened" are definitely among their high points.
Cherry Tree is a good prequel to Alligator, though it's not necessarily a great listen as a whole. The songs themselves are much stronger than the EP, if that makes any sense.
The National is pretty weak compared to the rest--they're really pushing the country thing here, and it's obvious that it's their first album. They didn't tour the material beforehand, it was released right after they got together, and I think that's its main weakness. It's unfinished.
I think if the b-sides to Alligator (You've Done it Again Virgina, Driver Surprise Me, The Thrilling of Claire, and Keep it Upstairs) were put together as an EP, it would rival nearly everything they'd released before. These guys consistently amaze the hell out of me.
