Really though, the songs no it are pretty dissimilar to "Hips Don't Lie". A lot of them are more pop-rockish and it's usually pretty interesting. And finally Carlos Santana doesn't ruin a song he guests on.

Was the other way around for me; I really liked it at first (and for a while), but now I barely listen to it. Just a select few tracks now and then.

I've listened/'m listening to to a bunch of stuff (mostly albums I bought over summer and have only had the chance to listen to now, but a couple downloaded to see what all the fuss is about) that might make it onto an 85-94 list, if I make one. Right now though, I'm listening to Cardiacs - Sing to God (1995) for the first time, and so far it's excellent. Double album though (kind of), so I don't have high hopes for it lasting to the end of the second disc.

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. They're quite odd. Though I don't think Angleworm Angel is one of their better songs (to be honest, it's halfway through the second Sing to God so I was kind of just waiting for the end by the time I heard it), they're pretty tiring to listen to anyway.

I thought I should check them out because one of their old guitarists played in a couple of my favourite bands (the Wildhearts and Silverginger 5), whose solo album I'd picked up at some point (an album of Zappa covers, disarmingly close to Cardiacs sound than most other stuff I've heard). I'm surprised at how much I like them so far (2 or 3 albums in), given the similarity of their sound to his solo thing.

But yes. Odd, they are.

I bought this right after it came out and was so turned off by all of the hype. As time has gone on though, I've only grown to like this more. One or two songs fall flat, but "Crown of Love" and "Rebellion (Lies)" more than make up for that.

Hüsker Dü - Zen Arcade
The Bronx - The Bronx
TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain

First time listening to all of those. Clouds Tast Metallic is my first taste of pre-Soft Bulletin FLips and it is excellent. Couldn't really dig Zen Arcade except for a handful of songs, but I'm not surprised because I don't normally listen to stuff like it. I'll definitely give it a chance to grow though. OK Dimez, critique:

Class of '05:
I have to say I really liked this song a LOT. The intro is cool, in a sloppy Tom Waits-y kind of way. The chorus is killer, catchy-as-**** and with great vocals which remind me of Defiance Ohio. I'm not suckin' it to ya, I really love this song.

Book Of All:
Cool song as well, great vocals again and nice noodly guitar line and jazzy drumbeat. Almost as good as the first song.

Firecracker:
Not much I can say, it's a fun pop punk song.

and the last one isn't really a song so...

All in all, you guys have lots of potential. I like your sound a lot, it's like a great mix of things I like. Special props to the vocalists. I'd not have done this, but the first song was so good I couldn't not. Keep it up man.

Incidentally, what is your role in this band?

I don't understand the obsession with downloading leaks. Am I weird for preferring to wait to buy albums when they are properly released?
I've never downloaded a leak. And I definitely prefer to wait for an album's proper release.

Leaks are awesome. They allow me to decide if I should go out and buy an obscuro record on the first day of release in order to look cool in front of all my friends.

I'm gonna rummage through every record store in Brisbane until I find The Glasgow School when I go down there next week. I need it so bad.

"Moscow Nights" is my jam.

Anyway;

Laura - Radio Swan is Down
Built to Spill - Perfect From Now On
The Magnetic Fields - i
Isis - Oceanic

the music is the same on the final release and the leak. so why not hear it early? i see no reason to wait longer to hear something i want to hear when it's right there for me. and plus, what if you don't like it? if you bought it before hearing the leak, $10-$15 just went down the drain.

Yeah, seriously, that's the only reason I'd download a leak.

It often isn't the same. And it seems disrespectful to the artist to me.

I'm digging the new Youth Group album. My friend lent it to me and "Daisychains" and "Sorry" are such good songs.

It's up to you man. It's pretty old, probably doesn't need to be there anymore. Anyone who was going to read it would have read it by now.

PS This thread should be stickied.
