yeah so guys, don't listen to the Lightning Seeds album I posted. Brutally, painfully overproduced. Oh man this is hard on the ears, it's so produced.
I really hate over-production. I can listen to a bad quality bootleg of a punk show from 1983 but I can't listen to over-produced stuff.
I'm digging lots of the Vindictives. Excellent punk rock for fans of Screeching Weasel and Apocalypse Hoboken.

I'm wondering why Pitchfork has such a big boner for it. Halfway through it I got really bored, though I thought "Lullabye" was a terrific song. Maybe it's a grower.
They probably rated it high, but I really like it too. Especially good as relaxing, evening music. Which I've been saying for a minute now, but nobody listens to me.
Beat Happening right now. Going to a afternooner concert, seemed like the right choice. I hope they chart on the 85-94 lister.

I can definitely see myself getting sick of the new Of Montreal, but the novelty of it right now is pretty off the charts. Very solid. Certainly way better than Sunlandic, which was kinda awful. He does his electro-funk stuff well, except for the Shuggie whatever. That ones just kinda messy.
ATM, trying to do the list. Pretty much too difficult. Currently listening to some borderline hip-hop albums.

Favorite band of all time, watch it son.
As stated earlier, I saw Band of Horses/Chad VanGaalen/Metals Hearts this evening.
Metal Hearts are pretty weak. I had never listened to them before and I was thoroughly unimpressed by their dull Appleseed Cast riffing. They had a sax for a few songs though so they didn't completely blow.
Chad VanGaalen ruled the ****ing night. It was a one-man band type of thing. He played this awesome distorted Howe Gelb acoustic guitar, double harmonica rack, a bass drum, a pedalled snare drum, and a hi-hat with a tambourine most of the show. His voice is impeccable live and he's a pretty funny guy in between songs. He pulled out a recorder and dedicated a little instrumental to "all the dead racoons we've passed on the roads" and then did an electronic instrumental with a microKorg before going back to the Neil Young stuff. I loved the dude, but I sadly didn't get to meet him.
Band of Horses put on a good show, but that doesn't make their material any less mediocre. I like them enough, but they played the same set as when I saw them in June plus a few random covers (David Allen Coe, New Year, and ELO). I just don't get the hype for these guys.

yeah, WAYYY better than Sunlandic Twins. my main complaint is how "gay" it sounds. i don't mean that in a homophobic way. i mean that it literally makes me picture a guy in shiny pink clothes dancing in front of a big screen with bubbles on it and shaking his booty, at some points of the album. still good though.

From the pictures I've seen, I'm pretty sure you just described their live show since Satanic.
pretty much. i saw them in January, and Kevin came on stage in a wedding dress. and then he took it off and he was wearing a silver vest with no shirt underneath, and tight brightly colored pants (can't remember the color, i think neon orange) and he also wore a choker and glitter makeup. still a fun show though. so much crowd energy, and they're very solid, except it became evident that they use LOTS of autotune on the vocals on their CDs, because live, Kevin could hardly hit a single note.

Justin Timberlake - FutureSex/LoveSound
the problem with liking this album is that everyone's gonna think I only like it because of the ironic hipster indie novelty value. However, these songs really are catchy. A poor man's Prince is good enough for me.

it's their second-best album. Great stuff. I saw them play half of it live before I had heard the album, and I wish it had been the other way around so I could have appreciated the songs more.
Probably third or fourth for me, but very awesome either way. Impressive versatility.
I was going to buy a proper copy today, but ended up finding some neat stuff in the used section. Got John Cale's Island Years compilation for $8 as well as my first Thelonius Monk album, Monk's Blues for $4. Also picked up TVotR because it was only $8, too. Total cost was $0, because I hocked off some free promos that were gathering dust in the quarantine pile on my desk. I'll pick up the Yo La Tengo and Lupe Fiasco next week. Hooray!

Yeah, Television's rhythm section is one of the main reasons I'll never understand the way The Strokes are compared to them. Strokes songs have a definite groove, a driving beat, where everyone is pretty much playing the same thing. Television songs have no groove because the drummer, bassist, and guitars are all doing their own thang. It's definitely not a bad thing to have no groove, I'm just pointing out the difference.

Just recently finally picked this up, having gotten The Correct Use of Soap a couple of years ago, and having loved it. I remember listening, on WRM's recommendation, to songs like "Motorcade" and "The Great Beautician in the Sky" ages ago, when 'post punk' was a distant concept for me, and being thoroughly confused.
The Feeling - Twelve Stops and Home
I'd planned to pick this up pretty much ever since I heard Sewn and liked it. The reviews (both the casual music fans' "this is the best album ever"s and the higher-brow review sites' "this is a cynical marketing ploy"s) surrounding it are annoying, though. It's just a pretty good pop album.
Also, is anyone here familiar with Bedouin Soundclash? I'm wondering if I should pick up their album sometime soon, or wait to buy it if/when I love them live at the end of October.
