Mastodon - Blood Mountain
What a mean album. On first listen Remission > Blood Mountain > Leviathan. There's some different stuff on here, a lot more spacey at times and in other times it's real traditional. I need more time.
It's modeled after early folk music I guess, not that I'm any expert on that. There's acoustic guitar, great vocal melodies, strings, anything you could ask for.Cool, I'll check that out soon.

some pre-Dear but i mostly have Dear You tracks.I always revisit Dear You more than anything else they recorded. It's a shame that there was never a proper album to follow it up (just live stuff and b-sides), although I guess Jets to Brazil really picked up where Jawbreaker left off.

So good. "Cold Cold Water" is such an epically heartbreaking opener.

Definitely some good stuff right there. He did wonders with "To Go Home," which was an ok song, but his version is pretty wow.
Today's listenings included Lindstrom and Tussle. The former is a disco/electronic dude who makes pretty nice instrumental beats. Latter is like ESG revisited sans the Scroggins. But the Scroggins were my favorite part! Still kinda neat, dudes got a solid groove.

I saw Whipping Boy last summer on one of their many reunion tours, a friend of mine adores them. They're one hell of a live act (not that I remember a whole lot), beer bellies notwithstanding. They're no shoegazer band though, not anymore anyway. I think their latest is free to download somewhere too.
I was just to the library for the first time all summer and they got a bunch of new CDs. I heard Pablo Honey for the first time, which reminded me a lot of early U2, which suprised me. Then I gave U2's War a few spins and realised how badly I'd misjudged it. I can't believe the band that made those first four albums went on to suck so horrifically. Also, the new JT album and some Nick Cave.

You like Sexy Back? There's quite a few good tracks actually, yeah, but it takes a while to start sounding great. Kind of like Prince.

Oh god this is great, although not totally unexpected as The Milk-Eyed Mender had hints of that fairytale-like sound.
eels - Electro-Shock Blues
I saw these guys the other week at Sunset Junction. I should've done my research beforehand though because I didn't even recognize them at first. I figured it would be E sitting at a keyboard all night, something like their soft and fragile Eels with Strings show, but out comes bassist Krazy Al in a security shirt, no bass in hand, and looking ready to kick some *** (he would later do some karate, yoga, let out some one liners, and spray whipped cream on people). The rest of the band follows looking like they're members of Fidel Castro's posse. Turns out the band took the abrasive punk route on this tour. So while it was completely different than I expected, it turned out to be a fun, loud, and truly great show.

I just finished watching season three of The Wire. It was unbelievable. I can't wait to see season four since I have free HBO for a few months...
I downloaded season 1 of that show.

Nas - Illmatic
Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
King Geedorah - Take Me To Your Leader
I still can't like Enter the Wu-Tang very much. The other two are grand, though.

I've never seen the Wire but I've heard good things. HBO is pretty much the best. Wish I had it.
Digging Television Personalities - My Dark Places. I think I want too much to like this album.

Grizzly Bear - Yellow House
I'm wondering why Pitchfork has such a big boner for it. Halfway through it I got really bored, though I thought "Lullabye" was a terrific song. Maybe it's a grower.

I listened to lots of Big Black and Hold Steady today.
Happymeal, I like Yellow House, but still agree mostly with what you said. It does grow on you, but it didn't deserve the rating it got. I think they just wanted a new Featured New Music up and threw that on because it's decent.

I'm reverting back into a blues/classic rock phase I think. I spent the past couple of days listening to...
Taste
Fleetwood Mac (older stuff)
Rory Gallagher
Ten Years After
Allman Bros.
Yup.
