I downloaded a bunch of stuff dei said he liked. Scary World Theory by Lali Puna is an amazing warm little indie electronica album, and after two songs I'm really enjoying the analog dance pop sounds of Cansei de Ser Sexy.
I also listened to Taking The Rough With The Smooch by Huggy Bear, and wasn't particularly impressed. Mildly experimental hardcore punk with alternating male and female vocals, this EP was just sort of a mess to my ears.

WHOA! Well okay then.
Sorry, that was a little harsh. I can see a lot of good in it, but the melodies just don't hold up for me. When they incorporate the acoustic instruments the arrangements become quite rich and interesting, but a lot of the blander electronic accompaniments paired with hum-drum vocals make for nothing too exciting. It's all fairly pleasant, and now and again pretty enjoyable, but nothing I can see myself listening to much in the future.

i'll list some good ones:
Panic in the Streets: these guys actually broke up in january, but they were amazing and went on to start another great band i'll list in a second. they sound kind of like Sonic Youth + At the Drive-In.
http://www.myspace.com/panicinthestreets
Lanterns: Panic in the Streets started this band after their singer left, they added another guitarist and changed their single-vocal driven poppy sound into a more noisey sound with gang-chanted vocals. like PitS was, but more fuzzy, punky, and experimental.
http://www.myspace.com/wearelanterns
Meneguar: These guys aren't local, they're actually across the country from me, but i love 'em.
http://www.myspace.com/meneguar
The F'ucking Buckaroos: these guys aren't local either, they're up north of me in San Francisco, but they're my friend's older brother's band. they are like crazy folk-bluegrass-punk.
http://www.myspace.com/the****inbuckaroos
(copy/paste the link)
Silver Sunshine: these guys have that psychedelic Beatles-ish sound that lots of bands on E6 have, but they're not on E6. they play a lot of shows with Dungen though.
http://www.myspace.com/silversunshine
War and Cinema: post-rock band with 2 female singers. very pretty sound.
http://www.myspace.com/warandcinema
Mere Woods: instrumental punk, like Drive Like Jehu without vocals. very cool guitar playing.
http://www.myspace.com/merewoods
Super Mega Terror: one of the few humor-metal bands that is actually funny, mainly because they know what they're doing. the LOTR sound-clip at the beginning lets you know that they're tr00 metal.
http://www.myspace.com/cactusiscool
For the High Seas: ok, this is my ex-band. we broke up after spending 3 months recording our CD and then releasing it. a month later we split :(. we sounded kind of like My Bloody Valentine + The Arcade Fire + Flaming Lips, with a female singer.
http://www.myspace.com/forthehighseas
