I'd give my left nut to see him live. That beatbox song on LAS is incredible. I've heard he puts on quite a show.Yeah, he's pretty incredible. It was only really chance that I noticed tickets on sale at a ticket site I go on; it wasn't advertised on any of his websites. Great show though, great beatbox section, and I spoke to the bassist after who gave me a setlist :).

Listening to Shake Off The Dust right now, I much prefer it to Youth. Not sure how I rate it against Live At Stubbs though.

I was thinking it'd be kind of a disposable but fun album, but I'm definitely leaning towards agreeing with you. Almost every track is awesome.

I've heard a couple of songs from other albums and I have The Fix (which is watered down R&B which isn't really my thing) and none of them even touch anything off The Diary. The group he was in before he went 'solo' (The Geto Boys) are good stuff too, pretty violent, but still good.

Just put on Slowdive - Souvlaki - I'm starting to like this more on repeated listens. Glad I gave it another chance.

Braniac - Pussyfootin'
String Tribute to Slayer - War Ensemble
Cake - The Distance
Mark Mothersbaugh - Ping Island (Life Aquatic soundtrack)
Fantomas - The Omen (Ave Satani)
The Unicorns - Les Os
Tom Waits - Anywhere I Lay My Head

'Tis to be a poignant tale of a little pirate-skull-shaped piggy bank coming to life, escaping the house, riding a bike, dancing in competition vs. the Cowboy Ninja, fighting and brutally slaying the Cowboy Ninja, and eventually becoming distraught and committing suicide. Part stop motion, part live, and one intense "animated" scene where I videotape a bunch of ghetto poorly-drawn crayon-on-paper semi-anime-ish pictures with dramatically moving camera shots...

It will be epic.

The Stooges - Raw Power

I've never heard the Swing Kids. Are they like Pearson's other bands or are they more old school punk?

They're quite similar to The Locust (the only other band of his I've heard), but a little more geared towards more normal punk/hardcore. Only a little though. It's good sh'it.

I used to LOVE Cursive. Domestica was my favorite album for a while, and I thought Burst & Bloom was excellent. I still do, actually, and Domestica still means a lot to me. So do their other albums. The Ugly Organ was good, I guess. Happy Hollow isn't.

Ambitious Sixty and the Straight Murder - Monger Bunny
The steel-drum/grindcore/jazz fusion 18 piece's 35th studio album full of singalong classics like Rectal Happiness, Smacked Up On Gnat, Thanks for the Ebola Ectoplasm and a cover of Southern Expansion and the Homo Area's Ballsed Up in Curved Optimism that has to be heard to be believed.

Glorified Kitchen and the Hopeless Sunflower - Detached Nicotine of the Securely Insecurity

Scott Walker - The Drift
Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped
My first time through the record is right now. "Do You Believe in Rapture?" is a great song - but I'm getting nervous about the entirety's quality. I'll have to just let it play out and see what happens.

Television - Marquee Moon

I don't see why Television were compared to The Ramones. They blew them out of the water. Or maybe I'm just saying that because I hate The Ramones.

Television >>>>>>>> The Ramones. i see no similarity.
Television was smart, cool, and ahead of their time.
The Ramones were bland pop-rock.

But in his defense, Ben Gibbard is a fa[g.

Still he bashes 10 bands for every 3 that he actually starts a constructive discussion on. And frankly, insults in alt/indie should at least be entertaining to read.

i always thought they sounded like a combination of The Rolling Stones and Talking Heads. Either way, that album is perfect and the title track is really fun to jam along to on bass

lucky!

so far i had downloaded Sleepin' Around, Incinerate, Reena, and Pink Steam. i love a of it, except Reena is kinda lame. i miss how intense and aggressive Kim used to be in her punk-****ing-rock days in the early 80's.
Making the Nature Scene and their cover of I Wanna be your Dog were great. now she's just kind of annoying and dry.

Today:

The Free Design - The Now Sound Redesigned

It's a tribute album in which hip-hop artists revamp songs from that band. I was surprised to hear Murs and Dudley Perkins in this one.

Cryptopsy - None so Vile
Make Up - Untouchable Sound

Make Up were sex.

Hey, I like Television and Ramones.

They were compared because they were both part of the New York punk scene.

J Dilla - Donuts

I listened to this a lot, then I stopped, and now I'm reviving it because it's great.I wasn't too thrilled by it. I don't think I listened closely enough, though. Or maybe I listened too closely. I'll give it another whirl.

The one I'm digging is a live album, and it consists mostly of songs from Save Yourself. I'd recommend I Want Some for that raw and dirty feel, and/or In Mass Mind (my favorite Make Up album) which is a pretty accessible but still very substantial release.
