Today I just bought Kid A and The Bends by Radiohead. I also bought Loveless by My Bloody Valentine and the Led Zeppelin double disc DVD.

I decided to try out some of the classics....and I like them.

In fact, I showed a song from Kid A to my mother (Idioteque), who I didn't think would like anything from Kid A. But as the music was playing she just kind of blankly stared off into space and I was like.....uhhh...what do you think? And she quietly says "That's kind of cool actually." So Radiohead has power over my mother appearently...

The Max Levine Ensemble: They're a great pop-punk band on Plan-It-X. They have catchy music and great lyrics. They've got a new album coming out this year on PIX and all their old stuff is available on their website. (http://tmle.terrorware.com/) Their best songs are Nihilism (http://tmle.terrorware.com/media/audio/How%20to%20Build%20an%20Intergalactic%20Time%20Tra vel%20Machine/08%20-%20Nihilism.mp3), Leopard Print Girl (http://tmle.terrorware.com/media/audio/Chach,%20Cops,%20and%20Donuts/05%20-%20Leopard%20Print%20Girl.mp3), Tidal Wave (http://tmle.terrorware.com/media/audio/Chach,%20Cops,%20and%20Donuts/11%20-%20Tidal%20Wave.mp3) and Conventional (http://tmle.terrorware.com/media/audio/Chach,%20Cops,%20and%20Donuts/02%20-%20Conventional.mp3)

Michael Jordan Touchdown Pass: Great folky-pop reminiscent of Matty Pop Chart or Erin Tobey from the younger brother of the lead singer of Johnny Hob and the Freight-Trains.

In my experience, the correlation between a band's perceived overratedness and the quality of said band's live show is pretty strong. Band's who play awesome sets tend to get their recorded stuff played down. Except Interpol. Those guys are just overrated and horrible all around.

In my experience, the correlation between a band's perceived overratedness and the quality of said band's live show is pretty strong. Band's who play awesome sets tend to get their recorded stuff played down. Except Interpol. Those guys are just overrated and horrible all around.

At the Drive-in had arguablly one of the best live shows, but their recordings are pretty average.

Anyways, I just find Xiu Xiu does the same thing over and over again, it gets boring.

Elvis 405 is the band's name. They're a pop-punk band that got attention briefly in the mid-90s because the number in their name is the area code for Oklahoma City. Everyone thought they were Timothy McVeigh sympathizers and they never lived it down. Guitarist John Hymenthal later killed himself by drinking bleach.

Matisyahu - Live At Stubbs - I've had 'Chop Em Down' in my head all day.Man, that song is so great, was amazing when he played it live. That and Exaltation are probably my two favorite songs of his.

Peter Tosh - Legalize It

This is superior to any material that Bob Marley has ever put out, this is becoming one of my favorite reggae albums of all time. That's bullshit, but it is good.

I'd give my left nut to see him live. That beatbox song on LAS is incredible. I've heard he puts on quite a show.

My Bloody Valentine - "Only Shallow"
Radiohead - "Airbag"
Flaming Lips - "Lightning Strikes the Postman"

those come to mind.

anyway, I'm digging Radio Birdman, because they're reuniting, touring here, and putting out a new album.

Airbag is boring but I have heard "Lightning Strikes The Postman" and I agree.

Maybe MBV is the next step in my musical journey.

EDIT: I'm listening to a song I consider to be part of that group too: "198d" by At the Drive-In

vvvv Yeah I've heard OF them but that's about it.

Lately I've been really into some songs that are really slow and soul-crushing, and heavy without being metal. Here are some examples:

Dino Jr- Thumb
Pavement- Grounded
Built To Spill- Carry The Zero (or maybe Randy Described Eternity)

So if you know any more songs in that vein, feel free to recommend them to me! As always, I still have much to learn about Alt/Indie music.
Have you heard of Big Black?

Bruce Springsteen - Nebraska

Yeah this is ****ty watered-down early Dylan. I'm disappointed.
Disagreed. This is one of those albums that doesn't get old for me. On par with anything Dylan did, imo.
