So I got St. Elsewhere and Yes, Virginia (Dresden Dolls) today. The former is as good as I remembered when I listened to it once on mp3. The latter is realllllly inconsistent to my ears, but some of its high points match up well with the stuff on their first record.

It's so sugary, it could make a hummingbird gag. But some songs are pretty catchy, even if they are disposable. Having never seen them on TV, I'd really think they'd be better live than on album really. Or at least nice to look at.

Slowdive - Souvlaki

I like this better than My Bloody Valentine i think
Dagger, Machine Gun, When the Sun Hits, Some Velvet Morning, Souvlaki Space Station, and Allison are my favorite tracks. the rest are fillers.

i think if they had gotten rid of all those fillers and replaced them with songs of that quality, then this album could easily beat MBV.
but unfortunately that is not the case. and also, MBV did it first, so Slowdive owes them credit.

i still heart them though. very very very very much.

I agree that theres some filler. It's just that some of the best songs on this album are better than anything by MBV. In my opinion at least.

lucky! you seen them before?
i saw them in August. amazing show. they played a lot of stuff off Bug and You're Living All Over Me.

the only problem was that they seemed very disconnected from the audience. but it was no big deal.

and there are few things as good as hearing Freak Scene and In a Jar live.

Bukowski

yeah, i also saw them last August. It was a great show, and there was thankfully alot of songs from the early albums. I'm not the biggest fan of what they did after Green Mind.

however, i was implying that those slowdive songs are better than the average band's songs, IMO.

so if every band took THEIR best songs on a CD and replaced all the fillers with songs of equal quality, it'd still leave the decision of which band had better songs up to the listener.

"Temptation" is the greatest pop song ever written. I would go as far as to say it is my favourite song ever.I'm always hesitant to make bold statements like that, but seriously, pop doesn't get much better than that.

Punk in Drublic is a pop-punk classic.

The Decline is a 18 minute song that is great.

I mean sure, most of their discography is the same three chord pop songs about hating hippies, but when they are on they are a very catchy talented band. It's just like listening to someone like Coldplay, or Blink 182. They are pretty bad for the most part, but when they are doing everything they can do right they are really good.

Does it sound very different from 1958?

I'm not very familiar with that album. It sounds like really wacky experimental hip-hop.

Goo Goo Dolls - Dizzy Up the Girl

For the most part, this album sucks. However, there are a few tracks that are absolutely great ("Dizzy", "Slide", "Broadway" and "Black Balloon").

Exactly.

Diggage:

Death Cab For Cutie
The Smiths
Trophy Scars
The Cure

I didn't really like their first album, but you could tell they were really trying to do something neat unlike a lot of similiar minded bands. I'm still not sold, but this is nice. "Skip To the End" is easily better than anything I've heard from them. Probably one of the catchier tunes I've heard this year. Handclapper it is. Title track is good, too.

These Internet radio stations on iTunes are pretty good. Since I'm not connected to my school's shared network in the summer, I have to figure out ways to hear lots of different songs without paying for it.

Heard a Built To Spill song "Kicked It In The Sun" which is just another reason that I need to get Perfect From Now On as soon as possible.

"Skip to the End" is a totally rad track. So dang catchy. I, like you, wasn't very impressed by what I heard off their debut but I'm gonna check that album out.

Everything except Europe which I didn't think was very good. Everything else they've done is awesome.

yeah, Europe was good, but the thing it lacked was the ability to relate, since the other things they have done have been songs that anyone could play on guitar and sing and completely relate to, whereas Europe has such and exclusive story only to the band members, it seems like it lacks purpose compared to the others.
