I'm not a huge fan of live CDs either... but it's not a typical live CD. It's basically a covers CD, and if you've heard Hallelujah then you know how good he is at covers. In about 160 minutes of music, there's only 5 Buckley originals, but he totally owns every single song. Plus it's not like it was recorded at a big concert, it's from way before Grace was even released. It's a small crowd, and just Jeff with no band, it feels really personal.

Honestly, it's almost as good as Grace.

I'm groovin' to Gizmodgery by Self again. Seriously man, they're amazing, making such great music using only a bunch of toys and pasting the sounds together with some nice production skillz.

They're somewhere in between the funky white boy hip-hop-ness of Beck and poppy indie in general. Now go check out this album (don't worry about the other albums; Self without toys is not Self at the top of their game) before I start droppin plates on dat ***.

P.S. "Trunk Fulla Amps" has the best usage of rediculously large amounts of the word "****" ever, bar none, along with the best impressions of other singers' voices ever, plus the whole 'best usage of toys instead of instruments ever' thing inherent throughout the whole album.

Trail Of Dead - Source Tags & Codes: They have a very dark, enigmatic sound...which I really like. They also have interesting dynamics in their songs. "Monsoon" is my favorite, especially because of the cool climax.

Beck - Mutations: This is now my favorite Beck record, close behind Sea Change. It features Becks songwriting skills and goofy genre hopping into one. It lacks consistancy at times...which is it's only flaw. "Diamond Bollocks" is an incredible piece of music.

Elbow - Cast Of Thousands: A great layback record with very unique production. I like this band because they write very moving songs without getting over the top emotionally...and also have some very creative concepts. "Fugitive Motel" is a highlight.

The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin: I can't seem to get sick of this record.

DJ Shadow - Entroducing: see above.

Electric Six - Fire: Just a goofy record that's fun to listen to. This band seems to be awful on purpose....but the tunes they write are extremely catchy and fun.

The band Neutral Milk Hotel totally sucks. I like them, but at times when I try to analyze the music, I'll stop and think "What the hell am I listening to?"

That whole E6 label is just evil though... (even though I happen to really like most of the bands)

Anyway, lately the album I've been listening to the most is Dorothy Ashby's "afro Harping". I'm playing a song in jazz band that sounds similar to one of the songs, so listening to this album is such a great excuse of "mental practice".

Oh, I'm sorry that my opinion's wrong. Assuming that you were referring to the E6 comment:

You see, while I really like most of the music on the E6 label, I greatly dislike how people worhsip a label. They're the pride and joy of every closed minded indie kid, and it annoys me that apparently if you dislike one of the bands on that whole label, your opinion is suddenly invalid. So why did I call it evil? Simply for the fact that, in terms of music, it makes the narrow minded think they're even more high and mighty.

X-Japan? Never heard of them. What are they like?
Japan's biggest selling hard rock/metal act ever. They've got elements of power, speed, neo-classical (real classical, not Yngwie ****) and prog in their sound too. The faster tracks are really anthemic, the slower ones really emotional and epic. Really addictive stuff.

Art Of Life is over 29 minutes long, and it's an absolute masterpiece. All in English, too. Piano solo takes a little getting used to though.

About The Honeymoon? You'd have to call them pop, but they're pop in a way pop fans won't appreciate anywhere near as much as indie fans. Hugely melodic, really melancholy. They have a male and a female vocalist - I'm pretty sure they're just a duo and the guy does all the music.

They sound very Scandinavian. Which might seem an odd thing to say, but they do.

I think the ones that I actually dislike are "Spider in the Snow"... and maybe "You Are Invited"? Dunno, I can't play through it to make sure because daddy is watching tv and the computer is in the living room, etc. There's also about 2 other songs that I don't really dislike, but I don't like either... but since I don't really pay attention to song names, even with some of my favorite bands, I can't remember which ones are the pretty-darn-good-but-not-amazing songs and which ones are the don't-like-but-don't-dislike songs...

(i've found that after all these years, my love for interpol still hasn't faded. yet perhaps that might be because antics made me realize how good they still are.)

I've been heavily digging TV on the Radio. I'm listening to a recording of one of their concerts right now... it's really good, especially considering that they're such a studio band (what with the layered voices and the electronic beats and stuff).

Edit: if anyone wants to listen to it, it's at http://www.justconcerts.com/concerts/concert.cfm?Act_Id=381&Concert_Id=314&Band_Id=13098&secondaryconcert=n

Where can I get my hands on this? I'm not that psyched about it, but I still want to hear it.

I got Romances from a group of my good internet buddies on Soulseek that always seem to be in-the-know with leaks and such... So it might not be spread around very much yet. I'm Kazzo on Soulseek if you don't mind really slow speeds, otherwise try getting it from [Starscream] or rf2202 or the_lethal_error I guess.

I'm not going to download "Romances"...I much rather buy and and then hear it. From what I heard from the samples...it's gonna be amazing.

I'm finally getting to listen to it now, up to song #6 right now. Oh god, it is amazing. Some parts I'm gonna have to give a few more listens before I can really absorb it all and start diggin' it more, but there's a lot of it that's instantly awesome.

Not so. The self-titled is excellent. Delirium Cordia, on the other hand, is quite lame.

Well I've only heard half of it, so I can't really judge.

But Directors Cut > Delirium Cordia.

Oh God the harp in "Crepuscle"!

Don't mind me, I'm just going through Romances a second time. This is definitely in the running for album of the year for me. Maybe 2nd or 3rd place, but just by a tidbit.

I finally got around to getting not one, but two Weezer albums yesterday, Blue and Pinkerton. So I've been digging that. Plus a couple of cds from the Conservatiorium Jazz Orchestra. They're quite cool.

I borrowed both Nelly Furtado albums from my friend yesterday. I have been meaning to buy both for years (well the new one only since it has been out), and they are both brilliant albums.

I finally got around to re-downloading Lumen's album The Man Felt an Iron Hand Grab Him by the Hair, at the Nape. Not One Hand, a Hundred Hands Seized Him, Each by the Hair, and Tore Him Head to Foot, the Way You Tear Up a Sheet of Paper, into Hundreds of Little Pieces earlier. Good stuff, post-rock centered on acoustic geetar.

Ben Harpers - Live From Mars

I don't like all the songs as much...but the standout songs are REALLY standout.

I'm also digging:

Bob Log III
The Cramps
Nick cave & The Bad Seeds\
Elbow
Sarah Blasko
RX Bandits
Dead Moon (this is something you might like Tangy)

I heard a Dead Moon song and it was horrible, it sounded like it was some kids messing around. (maybe it was).

Sarah Blasko!!! Yeahhhh.

Just click on "Downloadable Songs" on that page. You should be able to get all 3 there.

Hm, my friend said Lost In Translation's OST good, so I'm checking that out. So far I'm liking Too Young by Phoenix.
