I'm glad you like them, they're amazing. Funk off is possibly the funkiest song ever. Nice avatar, btw :thumb:
If you like them, you'll probably like Really Red too.

Today I bought
The Make Up - I Want Some and
Prince Paul - A Prince Among Thieves
I haven't listened to the whole of either, but right now I want to give them a pat on the bum if they were really attractive girls.
I also listened to Dane Cook - Retaliation

Possibly the most overated swing/jazz album of all time. The 21 minute title track blows me away every single time that I hear it.

I get bored halfway through Cryonics. Hot Cross are cool for a while but then I get really bored. I like City of Caterpillar, Off Minor, CTTS, Love Like...Electrocution, Saetia, pg. 99 and Trohpy Scars (if they count) better.

In Orbs Dighouse:
Spoon - Gimme Fiction
Just a wonderful album, just very enjoyable without being overly mindblowing. The songs are catchy to the extent that instead of having them individually in your head, you find yourself replaying the entire album in your head after listening to it.
Air - Talkie Walkie
Perfect livingroom music. This album is just fun to listen to. The music is so creative in it's simplicity, yet it's extremely accessible to the casual ear.
Annie - Anniemal
Cheap-*** Norwegian bubblegum pop. Badly pronounced english sung by this cute girly voice. I like this! But it reminds me I'm such a tool. My best excuse: the music chose me, not the other way around.\
Catchy music is my thing today.

The new Lips is growing on me, but it's still not nearly as good as the 1992-2002 era records. Or as consistant.
The best tracks are Mr. Ambulance Driver, The Sound Of Failure, It Overtakes Me, Haven't Got A Clue and Pompeii Am Gotterdammung (the only really mindblowing song on the album IMO). This record is a grower. With a record like Transmissions or Soft Bulletin, I was blown away from the first second. This record needs time to sink in. The songs on Mystics probably work better live than on record. Just a hunch of mine.

okay i am going to have to call bullshit on that one. everyone knows Marion Coriander doesn't have a bomb shelter under his barn. that's just an urban legend

Actually, now that you mention it, that does seem plausible. After all, the guys are pushing 40 these days. And "Whatever Melons May Reign on Earth, I Know Honeydew Is Waiting For Me In Heaven" takes a fair bit of stamina to pull off. My band used to cover that song, but our drummer couldn't handle it, so we had to stop.
Now we just play a wicked cover of "The Night the Evil Frost Came and Stole Our Entire Eggplant Crop."

Supersilent - 7 DVD
One of the most moving and intense musical experiences I've felt. Amazing.
Tell us about it on your radio show.
Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein
"While it can be said that many underground crews have been floundering in the gray matter of indie hip-hop, Cannibal Ox filled that area in with 2001's The Cold Vein for El P's Def Jux imprint. The music press had been quick to point out that Vast Aire and Vordul Megilah's attack is at times highly derivative of the Wu Tang Clan, and the point is valid. Thankfully, El P (a serious candidate for producer of the year) lays out some of the most lushingly intriguing sounds and beats that feel as herky-jerky as they sound gilded with silk. It's a bit misleading to harp on the Wu factor that The Cold Vein contains since this record's content is immensely original and the Wu references that seem present are in the enlightened gloomy flow and psychedelic backdrops -- not, (with all due respect) in the kitschy hooks and unfocused rhymes that Wu Tang are also known for. Aire and Megilah swirl around in b-boy posturing and obtuse nonsense as their innovation rears its head at every corner with scatter-shot lines like: "And I ain't dealin' with no minimum wage/I'd rather construct rhymes on a minimum page," and "You were a still-born baby, your mother didn't want you but you were still-born." While there's not a throwaway track per se, the album's length does run a bit long (at least they didn't make it into a double CD as a lot of rap acts have been known to do). To their immense credit, Cannibal Ox and El P have assembled one of the most listenable hip-hop albums in far too long. Heads be aware: Independent hip-hop has a new voice and this is your beat fix for 2001."
I never really saw what was so great about that one either, man.
Ill take Mmm...food over that anyday.

These girls (and one really flamboyant guy) were sitting in a circle in the hall at my school singing that today.
In Vancouver, there's a thing where you go up to a camera on the street, put in a dollar, and you get to talk to the camera, and they show it on TV. The other night, I saw a bunch of really fat girls dancing and singing that on the camera. I almost choked on my own vomit.
I cannot escape that "song." It's horrible. I can't fathom why anyone could possibly enjoy that.

Every time I listen to this album, I find a new favorite song. This time, it's the last song, "This Ain't A Surfin' Movie." Mostly been digging random songs as opposed to albums recently. A lot of stuff I haven't listened to since school too.
picks of the week:
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - (Are You) the One That I've Been Waiting For
It's been a few months since i've listened to any Cave. The lyrics in this song still blow me away.
Husker Du - Celebrated Summer
This song makes me happy. The chorus melody reminds me a lot of REM but more intense and awesome.
Kaizer's Orchestra - Maestro
I'll be damned if this isn't one of the coolest songs ever.
Planes Mistaken For Stars - Copper and Stars
I hadn't listened to these guys in a long time. Kinda crappy but still kicks ***.
Silver Jews - People
The bassline makes me so happy. Probably their best song.
I've also been digging Steve Albini's projects, Minutemen, Fischerspooner and Soul Asylum.

Oh, I played the Queertards on my internet radio broadcast, Titled; 1980 a couple of days ago. It was a very insense show due to the queerness of their epic and queer sound. Their album This is Queer was the exact tie in with this painting:
http://www.artnet.com/Magazine/features/polsky/Images/polsky1-25-2.jpg (just copy and paste it)
It just spoke volumes without hinting at it's true meaning. I didn't know what to think but I was certianly thinking something. Which is a start, I think. See there I go again. So why don't we go ahead and give them a listen, with their post hardhore post rock post goth country classic "This is Queer" here's the Queertards.
I'll see what I can manage.

They really do. The new stereo DVD mix of More Songs... gives it a vitality it never had.
The new mix gives it a much fuller sound than the semi-dull original recording, but if you're not already a fan of the album I don't think it'd sway your opinion.

Yeah, I kinda researched a little bit and found out that it is a massive huge thing that i can't possibly dowlonad on a modem connection. This makes me sad. Being the Radiohead fanboy that I am.
I believe that warrants a :(

EDIT: ^It's alright.
I've been re-listening to Solomon Burke, since the episode of House I had last night finished with one of his best songs playing.
Also been listening to Coliseum - loud and fast and pointless, so that's all very excellent - and little bits (various songs) from what Blackalicious stuff I have (A2G EP, Blazing Arrow and The Craft).
De La Soul and Wolf Parade for most of today.

here is another bassline i will teach you how to play since i just figured it out :):(
The bass solo/ditty in HORSE the Band's song "Purple" :
D--0h5-0h7-0h8-0h7-0h10-0h8-0h7-
i'm not really sure if those are hammers-on or pulloffs but just keep that open D ringing or alternate in a pedal tone and it will be fairly accurate!

Stupid band.

That's a shame, since it's a great album.
Probably the best album I've heard this year so far.

I haven't posted since I gave myself a new avatar yesterday. What a wild thing.
I have been digging a lot of (the same three) dub (albums) this week, hence the Lee "Scratch" Perry avatar. Also on the menu has been Sergei Rachmaninoff's Vespers, Op. 37, which I've pimped about a thousand times in this thread, and you STILL haven't downloaded it from me. Also did a double-shot of X the other day, listening to both Los Angeles and Wild Gift one after the other. I like them more and more every time I listen.

Vic Ruggiero - Alive at the Lady Bug House
The Slackers singer/keyboard player's solo album. Just him and his acoustic guitar. No ska tracks at all. It's great music but the best part is by far his voice.

Or even if you don't like Madlib's production.
I haven't listened to any music all day. Except the theme song from Curb Your Enthusiasm. A very bouncy, carnivalesque number, if you've never heard it. I think I'd like more of that. Earlier in the week, I was listening to Centro-matic's new album. I don't know if anyone has coined this term yet, but I call it belt-buckle rock. They're from Texas and I guess they've been around for a while, my first experiences with 'em though. Decent enough, American rock that sounds like American rock. A little too radio-friendly-MOR at times. I guess someone from the Drive-By Truckers likes them, so maybe fans of thems ought to look into that. They've got a couple really nice fuzzy dice songs.

Has anyone heard of the band Dropsonic? I know not many people know them, but I just want to see who does here at MX. I was introduced to thier new album "Insects With Angel Wings" a few weeks ago from a friend and I absolutely love it.
I've also been diggin some Pepper, Matisyahu, Trey Anastasio, At The Drive-In, and Coheed and Cambria along with Dropsonic.

Still listening to Radiohead, because "Killer Cars" has made my list of the most perfectly put together rock songs of all time (ie. the songs that are a constant rush of pure hook-age). In case you're wondering:
Radiohead - "Killer Cars"
Lilys - "You're Getting Closer"
The Beatles - "From Me to You"
U2 - "I Will Follow"
I can't think of any other ones off the top, it's late.
Hmm, would "Same in the End" by Sublime fit that category? Or am I tricking myself into believing that it's a non-stop blast because I love playing the bass parts so much?
Anyway I'm diggin Clouds Taste Metallic by Flaming Lips.

Okay, what about the QOTSA singles from Songs for the Deaf? Are they closer to reaching that sort of awesomeness that you're talking about?
