Prince Paul produced 1 track if I'm not mistaken. Nevertheless, it's such an awesome album. "Chemically Imblanced" has to be my favorite off of it.

I must've misread that off somewhere. My bad.

Today I'm really just beginning to get into the work of the Scene Creamers/Weird War people.

Sweet. I got into them before The Make Up, but I've concluded that their stuff's not as solid. (plus they don't have Steve Gamboa) They're awesome nonetheless. "Grand Fraud" and "AK-47" would be perfect for 70's-themed parties.

I'm buying this album. Awesome stuff.

That album is so good. Get Down Moses is so funky.

Agent Orange

I've been meaning to get into Agent Orange, I hear they do Descendents-style stuff.

I'm digging my usual old soul/r & b stuff today, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, etc.

That sounds like an interesting album, going off the litte descriptions on Amazon and RYM and such.

Anyway, I've been digging little new for quite a while now, just going over older stuff, like The Beta Band, Refused, Elvis Costello, Alabama 3, Iron Maiden, etc. I have been liking Ginger's new album though, and earlier today I checked out a bit of that Vitalic album that was posted. It's pretty good to start off with, but seems to lose a bit of steam by the end.

Iggy Pop - A Million In Prizes: The Iggy Pop Anthology*
And some random David Bowie songs.

So, yeah, I'm feeling glam rock-ish today.

*Anyone have this? It's a new Iggy Pop anthology that came out in late 2005, two discs covering everything from The Stooges's first album in 1969 to his latest solo album from 2003. It's a really good selection, IMO, for someone getting into Mr. Pop.

A compilation of late 60s and early 70s funk called Funk Drops: Breaks, Nuggets And Rarities

Phineas Newborn's Here is Phineas is a really cool virtuoso piano album. Recommended to any straight ahead bebop fan.

On a more personal level: The last couple days I've been experimenting with different keyboard instruments and pedals, which is a common pasttime of mine. One combo I've come upon that really moved me today was running some nice synth pad sounds on my Alesis Micron through a 60s Heathkit fuzzbox that really makes them scream. Then I've got my digital piano through a 300ms delay, to add some far-off booming melody.

Well from there you have about 3 choices.

You could progress the cds Ween released by getting the Pod next. It has many tracks like GWS but it way lo-fi and some of the songs aren't great.

You could go for their 4th cd, Chocolate and Cheese, if you enjoy their songwriting ability and want the disc with their biggest hit (Push th Lil Daisies)

Or you could get Pure Guava, reguarded as their best but probably weirdest, and noisiest.

Urgh! I downloaded Free Radicals out of curiosity...and it's pretty dreadful. Wayne, you are in The Flaming Lips, not in Spoon!

I also don't like the production, is so cold...it doesn't give me that fuzzy warm feeling inside when I usually hear their records.

In other weird musicians-who-like-other-musicians news: the lead singer of Dillinger Escape Plan hardly likes any heavy music at all. His favorite bands are My Bloody Valentine and The Dresden Dolls :amaze:

Also, what I'm diggin:

The Fall of Troy- Doppleganger

This really isn't that bad, just because it's not as good as the S/T and has a few inferior remixes of songs from that first album. "Act One, Scene One" is a great song, especially the sudden appearance of some Justin Timberlake-style vocals for a verse. I dunno how to explain it, but it's really not that bad of an album.

Also: Dinosaur Jr.- "Thumb" This is still an amazing song, so hopeless yet beautiful, with a great outro solo.

Yeah, so it was a rap/hip-hop car trip.

Then I listened to The Smiths' Meat is Murder.

Now I'm listening to Tom Waits' Swordfishtrombones.

Gorillaz - Demon Days

The great thing about this album is that it has alot of fresh original ideas, yet the content of the music has this really old skool feel to it. When I heard "Dirty Harry" for the first time, Grandmaster Flash is the first thing that crossed my mind.

I've been listening to Deltron 3030 and Common's Be on my way to sleep most nights for the past couple of weeks. Very relaxing, especially the former.

The album is not very known, but it is amazing. I love the hard drumming and sharp violin line on 'Fake Palindromes.'

Eh, Everything Wrong is Imaginary is ok but nothing great. Maybe it'll grow on me.

The Embarrassment - Death Travels West
Nick Cave and the 'Seeds - The Good Son

Man, The Good Son is one of Cave's albums that I've totally underappreciated until now. I used to not dig it too much, but my past couple of go arounds with it have been really enjoyable.

The Good Son is a good album. I really like the song Lucy.

I'm into a bunch of old Black Sabbath today.

Lilys because Kurt Heasley is just a cool guy. I'm a fanboy I don't care. Everything they do is great.

I've heard Eccsame the Photon Band and the EP A Brief History of Amazing Letdowns and like them, and I'm trying to warm up to the rest of their discography. I wish they'd stick with one style.

What have I been diggin lately? Well as far as stuff that i've just gotten into, I would say Death Cab and Guster. I went to go visit a school and my tour guide was totally into Guster and she raved about a concert that was there earlier this year, so I checked em out.

Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit

Pretty dissapointing.

That's what I thought at first. Then I realized that I kept on making constant comparisons to previous albums and couldn't enjoy the music. Once I listened to the album without comparing it to the bands other albums it's actually pretty damned good.

Oh wow. Wow wow wow. That album is SO BAD compared to the first two. But I think it's pretty bad objectively, too. You better listen to the other ones. Your standards are going to go up significantly.

Lately i've been listening to:

Dredg-Catch Without Arms

I've heard lots of good things about this band since i've been on mx, I find Catch Without Arms to be more of a softer album than what they have previously released. My favorite tracks would have to be Not that Simple, Zebraskin, Planting Seeds.

Interpol-Turn on the Bright Lights

I was turned onto these guys from a freind of mine, I first heard there album Antics, i was pretty dissapointed with that album. Then i heard there other album Turn on the Bright Lights, and I absolutely love this album. Alot of the guitar work is pretty good, and i'm a big fan of linear style drumming. My favorite songs would have to be Obstacle 1, NYC, PDA, and Stella Was a Driver and She Was Always Down.

Hella-Hold Your Horse Is

This is a good band to listen to once in a while, I can't seem to listen to them over and over. I'm a big fan of Zach Hill's drumming in Hella, not to much in Team Sleep. The guitar work and drumming go together pretty well, some really good songs on this album. My favorites would have to be Biblical Violence, Cafeteria Bananas, and 1-800-Ghost-Dance.

Huh, I didn't know he drummed it up in Team Sleep. I've only heard one Hella song, but that album is next in line for my To-Dig's of today. That one song was pleasant enough, at least from what little attention I paid to it.

I'm currently playing the self-titled album by Witchcraft. 'Tis a nice little Sabbath-y stoner rock joint that sounds like it time travelled to the present from the 70's.

The other day I dug The Go! Team for the first time. It was quite neat, but it kinda got old after several songs. But the diggin' was good while it lasted.

edit: oh wait, I have The Devil Isn't Red next in line, not that album... but close enough, yes?

Clocks and The Scientist were both off AROBTTH, and the title track is really good too.

I'm digging Wilco, The Doors, and Ryan Adams today.
