Now I'm liking Blonde Redhead-Misery Is A Butterfly, great song. I'll be researching about them the next few days. *delighted*
Their music took me a surprising amount of time to get into. I found it a bit boring and repetetive at first, but after going back to some of their stuff, I really like it.

Lately, I've been listening to a lot of Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, and Bright Eyes.

Hah, yeah.

Danse Macabre is definately my favourite Faint album. Wet From Birth has really freakin great songs on it, but there are two or three average tracks. Blank Wave Arcade is really consistent, but not to the standard and consistency of Danse.

I've been stuck in a musical rut for a while... Not in a bad way really, it's just that I've been sticking a lot of my semi-recent favorites lately instead of discovering new favorites. Isis, Pinback, Fantomas, Mastodon, Kayo Dot, 27, Pelican, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Cardigans, etc, etc. My new discoveries, which haven't been many, haven't reached 'favorite' status.

Only difference is I've been spinning Gran Turismo by The Cardigans instead of their older indie-pop albums.

There's this newish Canadian band called NoAlternative. They aren't big at all, their site is noalternativemusic.com (http://www.noalternativemusic.com/). They have a vid for their song called "Something Beatiful" that they play sometimes on TV, I've seen it on MuchLoud. They're a cool band, they have good music and they aren't all creepy and tattooish and insane clothing type.

Lately, I've been listening to lots of 90's stuff. Temple of the Dog, Weezer, Garbage, and of course the classic nineties staple Nirvana.
As far as new stuff, I'm lovin the truant album from Alien Ant Farm, the brand new Papa Roach tune, and there is a local indie band from my area called Shattered Core. They have a really unique sound, sort of Gwen Stefani meets Foo Fighters?!Anyways, my favorite songs of theirs are
Find the Way
Feel Me
To hear these guys check out their website @www.shatteredcore.com
:thumb:

Ok so heres a semi-new idea for a thread. Basically, you just post what ever song, album or artist you have really been liking at the moment. If it's a new band you could put a little bit about them, good songs etc...

So if this works well enough, we could maybe get it sticky'd ( Nacho? ).

Well, a cool new(ish) band I've been listening to alot lately is These Arms Are Snakes . They are a post-hardcore,art punky band who have one EP out called This is Mean to Hurt You.

Good songs to check out would be:

The Blue Rose
Drinking From the Necks of Loved Ones
Run it Through the Dog
Riding the Grape Dragon

---------------------------------------

I have been listening to Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps alot lately and have come to the conclusion that it is my favourite Neil Young album. Definately check it out!

---------------------------------------

Television - Friction is one incredible song. Ahead of it's time.

If you guys think this is a shitty idea for a thread just say so. If not, update with new stuff whenever you feel the need.

The Arcade Fire - "Funeral"
It's a great album, the hype makes you think it's going to be the voice of God... but don't get me wrong, it's still pretty **** good. There's also a lot of talk of it being the best album of the year, but only after my first listen I don't see it toppling Blueberry Boat for me, but we'll see. One listen isn't nearly enough to make a call like that anyway.

Agreed. It's strange the amount of importance placed on second albums right now. The Strokes, The Vines, Interpol, even Coldplay - they seem to be living and dying by their second albums.

According to one of my "rock & roll elitest" friends, Coldplay's third album is going to be "the biggest thing since The Beatles".

Jimmy_The_Exploder
09-30-2004, 02:19 PM
Yeh i agree - second album's seem to be the big decider these days. I reckon its because there were so many solid debuts appearing around 2000 to 2002. They all seemed so full of energy and youth (ie, the vines, interpol, kings of leon, the libertines, the strokes, etc) and I think people are expecting them to keep on creating 'virulent' music (when the bands are wanting to progress to a more mature sound).

But the new interpol album is fantatsic, they have really progressed (they sound more like an early cure or U2 now instead of joy division) and they've made a lot more use of their intruments this time (lots of weird feedback effects and such). I just wish it would have happened with the vines, because their second album was a major disappointment :upset:

Tangy zizzle
09-30-2004, 04:25 PM
People (not just here, but critics and commentators) seem to be lumping Interpol in with all these other bands like the Strokes, The Hives, Coldplay etc... I don't like it personally. I mean, Interpol are a phenomenal band but I don't see the reason to lump them with these others.

These cds i have played lately.

Experience Hendrix: The Best of Jimi Hendrix
This is amazing.

Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin
This is great! My favourite led zep album.

Led Zeppelin II
Second only to their debut, this album kicks nearly as much ***. Whole Lotta love is my favourite song on this album.

Nirvana: In Utero
A great follow up to the epic Nevermind. My favourite songs are Heart Shaped Box and All Apologies.

Nirvana: Nevermind
This is album is a classic. It combined punk, metal and alternative to form what we now call "grunge". Great riffs. Great sound. Great vocals. Everything came together well for Nirvana on this album. A real classic.

Pearl Jam: Ten
My favourite grunge album at the moment. This album has a great groove compared to Nirvana's, and the guitars are more complex and sound better than that of Nirvana. This album is another classic, and definately in my top 5 albums at the moment.

The Vines: Winning Days
I have been a huge fan of the vines lately (and i've developed a reputation here for it :)). Although, this album hasn't touched me the way it used to. Must be overplayeditis. the heavier songs combine grunge with punk excellently. The softer songs show craig nicholl's excellent songwriting capabilites. Every instrument ont his album sounds great, and this album is one of the best garage rock albums i've heard.

The Strokes: Reptilla (Single)
This is a great song. Garage rock at it's finest.

Green Day: Dookie
Green day break through into the mainstream with this excellent effort. Everything sounds great. If you like punk or any ponk (pop-punk) then you should check this out. "The holy grail of pop-punk".

And that's about it.
My top 5 albums, no specific order.

Experience Hendrix: The Best of Jimi Hendrix
Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin II
Pearl Jam: Ten
Green Day: Dookie

The End.

Nah, I just got tired of the name.

Aimee Mann is pretty nifty. I've only heard the Magnolia soundtrack, but yeah, good stuff. Save Me is such a great song.

Check these guys out - they so rock! I saw them in Vegas earlier this week and it was a fantastic set. They are on tour now, so go to http://www.bloodylovelies.com and see if they are going to be where you are. I would really so not miss this! Their new CD Some Truth and a Little Money is a must-have. You can get the CD there too. Go check them out - you'll be so glad you did.

Tell me what you think of Zaireeka. It's so bloody expensive over here that the only way I'd consider it is if it was one of the best albums ever recorded. Ever.

Tell me what you think of Zaireeka. It's so bloody expensive over here that the only way I'd consider it is if it was one of the best albums ever recorded. Ever.It cost me about $20, maybe a few dollars more. I can't really say that I'm ready to give a definite opinion on it yet, as I haven't gotten through all of it. (the Dream Theater DVD has kept me occupied ;)) I will say that people who get this album expecting to hear something like Yoshimi are in for a big surprise. It still sounds like the Flaming Lips, but it's really out there. I haven't been able to do much experimenting with the discs yet. I do have all the CDs ripped to my computer, and I experimented with mixing tracks together. It's pretty cool, but it honestly takes the fun out of it by doing it on the computer. Maybe I'll try and upload some tracks or portions of songs so you can see how the 4 discs work with each other.

I'm really pretty busy lately, so I don't know how much time I'll have to experiment with this. If I give it a thorough listen soon, then maybe I'll do a review, but I'm already behind in the other 3 or 4 reviews I want to do. :o

Oh yeah, and I'm hesitant to experiment with track 6, "How Will We Know- (Futuristic Crashendos)". It experiments with some crazy frequencies and the CD (and online reviews) give warnings that it should not be played in the presence of pregnant women or infants, and it may cause naseau or disorientation.

For the most part, it's post-emo. More emphasis on alt than pop-punk though, I really dig the piano parts.

Poison Oak - Bright Eyes....(cant get enough of the ending)

Matchstick Men and Matchstick Cats and Dogs - (circa 1978..Brian and Michael...its about a painter named Lowry who became famous posthumously for painting simple characters)

Thats all I want to say because I'm new and I feel wierd.

I'm discovering Kasabian and I bought Crimes.

First impressions:

I haven't fully grasped the whole album yet but it seems more catered to alt/indie peeps than punks/hXc kids. I'm not that familiar to BB's older sound, but they've gotten a lot more accessible and "poppier", than say, This Adultery Is Ripe, trading some technicality and artsiness from their past works for atmosphere. I think it's a love/hate album for their fans. I'm personally liking it myself. I just notice, the vocals sound like helium overdose. His voice is even higher than before. Kewl.

I personally like the cover art:)
