Odd album. Soldier Side and Vicinity Of Obscenity might just be their best 2 songs ever, but then there's something as truly shameful as Lonely Day. I guess it's a 3.5 overall. Not as good as Mezmerize.

Yeah I like Hypnotize too (http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?reviewid=4350&genreid=7)
Please Please Please, Let Me Get What I Want might be the most stunning Smiths song of them all. Might be.
Also listened to Minutemen - Buzz Or Howl... and will be listening to B Walker - Letters when I stop repeating this track.

Yeah, I was thinking that as well. It's weird because everyone (even the band members) said that this half of the double-album is their better one. Oh well, I'm sure it will grow on me. The lyrics in Lonely Day sure are cheesy though, but I could never take a band like SOAD seriously when they are so ****ing goofy all the time. Aww, look at the widdle kids talkin' politics! I don't need to write an essay to say that his music is terrible. It's just terrible. When I listen to it, it makes me want vomit. It makes me wish whoever had spawned him hadn't had sex that day. He's got a fantastic flow, a high pitched voice(but not to the point of being annoying), and is accompanied with very good mix of African, old school-ish, and world beats. He's from Kenya, and a lot of the subject matter in his songs are about his home country. I've listened to it several times over the past couple of days and have yet to get tired of it. Highly recommended.

Cold Roses is the best thing Ryan Adams has done since Heartbreaker. Jacksonville City Nights is not. Still good though.
Early tonight I was trying to listen to all of my Ryan Adams records in alphy order, only got through the first Cold Roses disc. Maybe tomorrow.

yeah, I love the interview bits more than the songs on these sorts of dvd's usually. I like how they show images of Lanegan and Nick even though it's troy and co. playing on the actual tracks. It's also funny when Oliveri talks about putting his amp in the toilet.

Dude Aerosmith rules. This album is even better than Rocks, I think. But the production sucks.
Any Aerosmith album from before they were clean is pretty good, I would guess. I don't know about Draw the Line though, as it was pretty much the depths of their depravity if "Behind the Music" serves me correctly.
I didn't realize that "pretty good" and "okay" had different levels of quality equated with them.
Have you read Zen And The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance? Every time someone talks about quality, it makes me think of that book.

Monks - Black Monk Time
I've had this for about four months now, and I still don't know what to make of it. I know I like it quite a lot, but I can't decide whether it's a really excellent record, or just a good record and a nice little curio from the 60s. Listening to it over the past couple of days I think I've been leaning more towards the former, though.
Oingo Boingo - Dead Man's Party
A good album. As reviews seem to take pleasure in pointing out, the drums can get annoyingly repetitive. Also, I think even the most inexperienced listener could tell you it's an 80s record. I don't really see why the drums have to be a problem, when the focus is so very strongly on the vocals, lyrics and horns (and then other instruments), that you only really notice the almost constant boom-tish-boom-tish when you listen for it. But I like it anyway, maybe due to a strong affinity for Danny Elfman's songwriting/vocals/etc.

I wanna get more of their stuff. I actually think it's borderline brilliant. However, I only have their album Music For Egon Schiele. But it's incredible how they can use music as a form of Expressionism like Schiele did with his paintings.I was listening to The Sea and the Bells on the ferry the other day. Amazing experience. They create the perfect soundscape of the voyage of a ship.
It was a light week, with my music mostly on shuffle:
1 The Minders 20
2 Bob Dylan 14
3 Deerhoof 13
4 Saturday Looks Good to Me 12
5 Serena Maneesh 11
6 Sun Kil Moon 10
6 The Polyphonic Spree 10
8 John Kaada/Mike Patton 9
8 Silver Jews 9
10 Gospel 8

1 Interpol 46
2 Eels 33
3 The Who 20
3 Kanye West 20
5 Pixies 15
5 Queens of the Stone Age 15
7 Radiohead 14
8 You Am I 13
8 The D4 13
10 Kaizers Orchestra 12
10 The Smiths 12
10 Elbow 12
10 At the Drive-In 12
10 My Morning Jacket 12
And, over the weekend I listened to some albums that I hadn't heard before:
Sleater-Kinney - One Beat
The Decemberists - Picaresque
Mark Lanegan - Bubblegum
PJ Harvey - Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea
and some others that I can't seem to recall at the moment. But I definitely love Sleater-Kinney.

albums:
Acid Bath - Paegen Terrorist Tactics
Elliot Smith - xo
Mastodon - Leviathan
Jesu - Heartache EP
Cult of Luna - The Beyond
songs:
Arlo Guthrie - Alice's Restaurant Massacre
Gil-Scott Heron - Whitey on the Moon
...and this song "four" by The Pink Mummies from myspace. They got the whole post-metal thing going. And it's going quite well. The production sucks, but hey, it's just a demo by an unknown band, so I can't complain about that too much.

Do you have Music For Egon Schiele? Perhaps we can make a trade? *wink wink*

Do you have Music For Egon Schiele? Perhaps we can make a trade? *wink wink*Why yes, I do. My upload speed is so slow though that whenever I send something, I really don't deserve anything in return.

I'm into The Afghan Whigs right now.
And Tom Waits (always a staple in my musical diet).

Ohhh, ok then. I'll find it elsewhere I guess. I've just been listening to that one album for the last 6 months or so and I wanted to hear more of their stuff because that one album is so promising.
