Right now I'm listening to Jesus of Cool by Nick Lowe. Good album. He was a producer (for guys like Elvis Costello, and the Damned), but he also did this great solo pop-rock type stuff. Touches on a lot of different types of pop music, there's bits of Motown, Beatles, doo-wop, etc. It's along the same lines as Elvis Costello, so if you like him then check it.
Great album title too, although it got changed in America. I think it was called "Pure Pop for Now People" there.

Husker Du - Flip Your Wig
It's the first album that Grant Hart and Bob Mould produced for the group and you can definatly hear the ever growing pop side in them. Is it on par with New Day Rising, Metal Circus, or Zen Arcade? Sure. Is it as hard hitting as those albums? Probably not, but it's the album where Husker Du did exactly what they wanted to do and that is what makes this album the best representation of their musical tastes during their SST stint.

It's at the Trobadour. Have you ever been there before? If so, what's it like?
It's a really cool venue actually. I saw The Panics play there. It's got a lounge bar type thing happening and it's quite small - probably only about a hundred people would fit in there.
I Heart Hiroshima are playing there next Tuesday. Oh yeah, check this out br3ad:

Of course. I was singing "Star Slight" for days after first getting that album.
You can understand the lyrics? See none of it makes sense to me, and even with the power of Google it's hard to make sense of what Cedric and Jim are shouting (especially since they were pretty doped up at the time apparently). But "Star Slight" is a good song even if it sounds a bit too much like it belongs in an iPod commercial.

I have absolutely no idea what the lyrics are. But that doesn't stop me from singing them. That's one of the things I've always found funny... Normally, when songs have that "shout out loud" quality to them, you can actually sing the lyrics. It's like 80s hair metal, minus a chorus that everyone knows.
"Enfilade" is another ATD-I song like that.

Iron On - Oh The Romance
Iron On are a new band from Brisbane (where I live). This is their debut album, and I love it. It's indie pop/rock with alternating male and female vocals in a similar style to Death Cab for Cutie, I guess. Very catchy stuff. They have some songs on purevolume (link (http://www.purevolume.com/ironon)), listen to the song off this album for a start.
They also have a website: http://www.ironon.live.com.au/
Also dug:
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Abbatoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus
Air - Moon Safari

I've been waiting for the She Wants Revenge album to come out on october 25th.... other than that i've been into Death Cab for Cutie (thats been going on for some time now though),
Genius - no official releases yet, but check out Break, Afraid and Everything's Fine.
Neve - older band, got dumped after their first album... never got to release their good stuff - the album colombia mad them release sounds like pop, but their other stuff has strong Depeche Mode/The Cure influences. They are scheduled to release a new album sometime next year... we shall see where that goes.
Oh and Forever in a Second... although I havent been keeping up on them recently. Check out Autobiography in Song if you can find it.

Ulver - Blood Inside
My first real experience with electronicky Ulver. I can't work out whether it's a very good, well-crafted and thought out album, or a shoddy mess.
The Meads of Asphodel - The Excommunication of Christ
This has been much easier to figure out. It's taken me five years to finally get around to picking it up, but I'm loving it now. It's got the same brilliant mix of instrumentation and styles as it's successor (Exhuming the Grave of Yeshua), and, despite the occasional puzzling inclusion of some - presumably unintentionally - fairground-esque keyboards, the songwriting's up to as high a standard as that album, too. Time seems it's only enemy, at the moment.
Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane
Finally got this album, having loved a few of the songs from it (notably Where Dead Angels Lie) for quite a while now. Where Dead Angels Lie is still my favourite for now (being one of the best songs I've ever heard), but the whole thing's great.
Nick Drake - Pink Moon sticks out in the group a bit I suppose, but that's what else I've been digging today. Almost certainly the one most suited to this forum, too.

Would you consider it better than Exhuming? I've heard a few songs from it which were good but I don't know which of the two releases to get.
So far I think I still prefer ..Yeshua, but that might be just because I've had it a couple of years longer. Understandably the earlier album seems less refined - a lot of the same elements that are on ..Yeshua are already present (acoustic guitars, little bits of electronics, the general Middle Eastern feel to a lot of it), just not done as well. Only the metal riffs seem to be up to the same standard. But that's just based on listening to it a couple of times.
Ooh, I'm getting around to listening to that as well after a bit of Arsis, who kind of bored me. Today's been that and some Slackers.

Daniel Johnston makes me go weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. And no, Daniel Johns and Johnston are two different guys.
Things I'm listening to:
Tiny Lights - Hot Chocolate Massage
I read about this album on allmusic.com (they gave it four and half stars); these guys have a sort of lo-fi orchestral indie funk-pop thing going on. First track is this baroque number, track 3 is all guitar solos and stuff. Last track is called "Tuesday Afterdinner (Free Improvisation)" but I haven't got that far yet. It's like the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing a couple Nick Drake covers from Bryter Layter with a Dusty Springfield imitator on the vocals. It's probably a C right now.
Red Krayola - God Bless the Red Crayola and All Who Sail With It
I've had this on vinyl for some time, dying to find it CD. Mayo Thompson is the feckin' man. He invented post-punk in 1968, which obviously makes no sense at all. But the proof is in the pudding. It's not a perfect album, sometimes it's just too weird, but not in a good weird way, more in a, "ok, stop that," kinda way. But enough of it rules to make it fantastically good. Definitely more my cup of tea than what I've heard from Parable of Arable Land. B+
Hopfully later today, I'll be digging the new Alex Drosen joint. I don't have the last couple tracks and he's not at home to send 'em to me and I don't want to start listening to it until I've got the whole thing. :(

Nothing, I'm just saying that even though you proved that you listen to newer music, it's still very much in the same style as the music that you almost exclusively enjoy. I know you listen to other genres, but I guess most people don't.
Also, you know very well that post-punk is a specific genre and not dependent on a timeline. Sheesh, you're almost as bad as people who think that emo means "emotional."

Hot Cross - Fair Trades and Farewells EP
I've kind of liked Hot Cross for a while now - not really since I first heard them, in a Forced Listening, but since I downloaded their A New Set Of Lungs EP. Only recently have I come to thinking I know how to actually think of all their releases and such though, and I think this EP is my favourite. I like it more than Cryonics, and I think I like it more than A New Set Of Lungs. I like the slight change of style it has. Since it's their most recent release, this means I'm looking forward to their next one (Tacoma?). I'm interested to see if they can make a full-functioning LP.
The Wildhearts - Landmines and Pantomimes
A scrappily assembled disc of half-finished tracks and mid-creation takes, put together by their former record company and released without their permission, so it's always felt, understandably, like a bit of a patchy release. I just put it on though, and I'm liking it a lot more than I have before.

I have a Hot Cross song that I either reviewed for FL or just downloaded; I'm assuming it was yours.
I ahven't posted in here for 43745724387 years, but I'll keep it brief. I've been listening to:
Tommy Lee - Tommyland: The Ride
This album is a novelty for sure, and every song sounds like the collaborative artist (all but three is a duet), but beneath that it's quite a decent pop record. He's not a good singer by any stretch of the imagination, but it's somewhat endearing, even genuinely touching at times. :-\
Plus Butch is on the album \m/
Also in Friday's post came Wire - Pink Flag, which I've listened to 4 or 5 times at this stage. I had it in mp3 already, but CD sounds so much better.
Brief flirtations have also taken place with Foo Fighters - One By One, which is a lot better than I'd ever have expected from a band I've irrationally hated for years; Replacements - Hootenanny, some sort of outtakes album from 1982, which sounds great; and The Best of the Wildhearts, as I've been ripping some tracks for a lucky sucka in R&M.

My Morning Jacket - Z
I've really been giving this album a chance, and it's gradually climbing from a 1.5/5 to a 4/5, which is pretty extreme. "Anytime" is one of those awesome songs that you have to listen to over and over until you finally get sick of it.
Z is excellent. A really great disc.
Oh, and great avatar by the way :D

Yeah it's actually pretty good. It's not the kind of music I normally listen to, and for having all synth/no percussion tracks, it's quite a surprise.
I feel like I should be playing Earthbound now.

How good is that piano ballad? I've forgotten the name, but the one where he goes "and they all treat me like ****". It's got really really high vocals and a part where he goes crazy and starts screaming.

I have a Hot Cross song that I either reviewed for FL or just downloaded; I'm assuming it was yours.
If it's from me, it'll be Finger Redux, and if it's Finger Redux, then I think most of what's on Fair Trades and Farewells is better than it. There's more focus on the guitars.

I'm listening to Apostrophe by Frank Zappa. I don't think I ever properly appreciated this record. Lately, I've been going back to a Zappa albums I've never listened to, and I've been really surprised at how different it sounds today.
Plus, "Uncle Remus" is an awesome, awesome song.

Centaur - In Streams
The band that came after Hum, featuring the returning vocalist and 2 guys from other bands. It does resemble the heavy and melodic style that the aforementioned band had but Centaur comes out a little more dirty and aggressive(without being needed to be categorized with bands such as Isis). A different animal altogether.
