Oh yeah definitely. You could play both of them at the same time: plucking and snapping some percussive root notes on the bass while fretting/tapping the guitar strings. Or wait... I dunno :(

I'd just like to be playing bass but also be able to pick some leads out when I'm not playing bass.

Man, he's awesome. You like Teardrop Explodes or solo stuff better?

So far I've only got the first Floored Genius compilation but I just got Peggy Suicide so I'm kinding leaning toward his solo stuff. I really ought to pick up an actual Teardrop Explodes album before I make any judgement. Honestly, I'm not liking it all but when he's on, he's certainly pretty darn awesome.

Alt/Indie is a MASSIVE catch-all category including everything from Radiohead to Joy Division to Belle & Sebastian to the Killers. Alternative and Indie as genres alone are also vague descriptions which hold countless bands that can sound nothing alike. The bands I listed are all very good though. :)

Sparta is would generally be considered alternative (along with many other things), yes.

Alt/Indie is music like REM and the theme song to Pete and Pete.

Or in general, any music you would play to try and impress a girl is probably alt/indie.

They've got a cool sound they can call their own, and I recommend you check them out. I'd upload something for ya' if YSI hadn't closed.

Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better With Franz Ferdinand

the tracks don't stand out individually as much as they did on the last album, but I think it flows a lot better. The first sounded like a greatest hits compilation, and this sounds like an actual album.
I agree. I think that songs like Walk Away and Eleanor Put Your Boots On really help the album, they stop it from getting too samey like the first one.

Anyway that's what I've been digging too. I like the album, it's not great, but it's solidified my opinion that they're by far the best band to come out of the whole new wave revival thing. Hell, FF and Bloc Party are really the only bands in that whole scene who've managed to make solid albums.

Okay, well it's a Factory records release and their only studio LP ('82). Along with most Factory releases, it's a moody post-punk record. The sound found here has more psychedelic influences than I initially anticipated, but it's fantastic. It's atmosphere is excellent and one of the best reasons for me to recommend it. I've only heard it a couple of times, but I'm really enjoying it.

Now there's an album I haven't heard. How does it compare to Real Life and The Correct Use of Soap?

Yeah. Iai lost about all respect I had for him with that statement.

They're pretty all right for a newer metal band, certainly not horrible. But there's a user around named Trivium who's a huge faggo, so that might be one external reason why the band gets a bad rap.

I wouldn't say I lost respect, but I'm very surprised.

Lots of music from Epitonic, I've been going on a 'follow the trail of recommended artists' spree.

Fun.

I've followed a trail from jazz to emo, then from emo to beatboxing, then from beatboxing to dub. Some of this music is really amazingly good/strange.

Should I care about the new Black Dice? Creature Comforts was ok but not that great.
If you've liked Black Dice in the past, this isn't too far of a departure really. I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot at least. Two albums after it though, it seems that Beaches and Canyons really will remain their top form.
