Hi, this is my first post.

Anyway, I just got MBV's Loveless and I've listened to it 15 times in 4 days. It's just that good.

I also picked up the new album by the Cure which is pretty good and Absolution which is also awesome, but I like Origin of Symmetry and Showbiz better.

Other great stuff is Motorpsycho...people are really missing out on this band...check out "The Golden Core".

Nirvana
Possibly my favourite band. Classic. I own Nevermind and In Utero and I think both are amazing albums.

The Offspring
My favourite Punk band. They are really amazing. I love Americana. Getting smash soon, and I love Self Esteem.

I have been listening to the strokes' new single Reptilla. very good.

John Butler (of the John Buter Trio) is very underrated.

I wanna get some classic rock.

I love grunge and punk.

Tangy zizzle, if you don't mind, I might do an album of the week too.

My album of the week is: Americana by The Offspring.

Ever since the new Pinback leaked, I've been grooving on it a lot. Otherwise it's been the usual: a bit of indie-pop and a bit of Isis/Pelican/Kayo Dot and a bunch of other random stuff.

Oh yeah, I've also been diggin' the demo from Mare, you fans of Isis and such should check them out. The Hydrahead website has one song from the demo for download. It might be hard to find the whole thing, I got it from an interweb friend.

KUKL: Really creepy alt. punk/ambient music with Björk as lead singer.
The Cramps: Glorious alternative, raw no-nonsense, sick *** rock 'n roll
The Cocteau Twins: Ethereal alt. pop with Liz Frasers unique beautiful voice as the main focus
The Young Gods: awesome industrial band that scares the **** out of me.
Elysian Fields: Just checked them out...alternative suspense pop with sensual female vocals.

And I'm addicted to the song "Little Green Bag" by The George Baker Selection...for those who are wondering...it's the theme song in "Resevoir Dogs"...the song is amazing :p

I bought 'The Shape Of Punk To Come' yesterday (only by about an hour) and I am quite impressed with it. I don't instantly like it, which is a good sign, as it probably means I will grow with the LP and it will have longevity. My favourite tracks a.t.m. are;

Liberation Frequency
Summerholidays vs. Punkroutine
Refused Are ****in Dead - the final section in particular

Recently I have also been investigating techno, in particular the artists on 'The Matrix' soundtrack, i.e. 'Meat Beat Manifesto', 'Lunatic Calm' and 'Hive'. Unfortunately for me, the better meat Beat manifesto albums have been deleted, I can't find any lunatic Calm files anywhere and Hive's best is deleted in the UK. :( Can anyone help me out?

Good stuff! TSOPTC is a life-chaning album.

I just cannot get enough of the new Fiery Furnaces disc, it's so infectiously weird and wonderful. With gems like Wolfnotes, Chris Michaels and Mason City who wouldn't love it??!!

Also, I've kinda checked out Damien rice. He's pretty cool. His music is what I expected it to be, but it's also quite refrshing. Long live the singer/songwriter!

I met The Fiery Furnaces once. They went for a drink in this small venue's bar after a gig. There were a few really pretentious people trying to have proper conversations with them, but I just went up and asked them to sign the back of my sticker. They were very nice, but I think the guy was pissed, so that pretentio was wasting his time.

TSOPTC has already grown on me in these past few hours  I really want to buy an Isis album, but which is the best one to get, anyone?

Beastie boys: their new cd is pretty good. blackalicious and J5 (mostly j5) have some really good tracks for those of you that enjoy real hip hop. Bob marley, eek-a-mouse and sublime go hand in hand with smoking bowls. i used to listen to the blood brothers a lot, les savy fav, the international noise conspiracy, the refused, sometimes le tigre, but lately ive been sticking to classic rock and stoner music.

while we're questioning the instrument-use of Mars Volta, i gottsta add- whatever they're using at the moment (perhaps some custom, hybrid-model or sumthing), it sounds very insindiary (ok, my spelling is off, and im not Rogert Ebert- so that just bumped me 2 stories under the ground)....

but it's very excellent, and want to have that guitar sound.

Mars Volt! Be De-loused....or lose.

At the moment I really can't get enough of The Icarus Line. They are really what I needed. A very raunchy, dark and raw rock band.

Van Morrison's early material is getting a thrashing here aswell. Hard Nose The Highway and Astral Weeks have become staples in my house over the last couple months. Those two albums are so good, and do not get enough credit these days.

Korekyojin are a very interesting Japanese band that I've been diggin' recently. Strange psychotic/psychadelic prog-punk music. Very good stuff.

I just got Missy Higgins' Scar EP and it is brilliant, a lot more upbeat (well the tracks that will appear on the album), and just plain blow-awayful.

I also picked up Dylan's Blood on the Tracks for $10. My favourite Dylan album, and I'm heavily into him at the moment.

I also listened to the Mike Skinner interview on JJJ this morning and watched The Streets play on Channel V, and Mike Skinner is definately the man. Also happened to see an hour long Beastie Boys special and a live performance on [V] today, and that was awesome. And I was just about to dismiss it as the worst music channel ever.

Sometimes its best going to your favorite gigs alone, while going with friends is fun, you have to kind of keep an eye on where they are so they dont get lost yada yada. its hard to really get into the music. at a lot of the little local highschool things theres kids who are usually at their first show and decide they might as well drink and blaze too, why not try three new things. I'm also thinking of buying the new Dillinger Escape Plan record...their new singer is incredible.

You should, it's a great album. The new singer sounds very Patton influenced at times, and has big muscles and the hairstyle of a little schoolboy. What more can you ask for in a singer?

But anyway, my current diggin'-it list:

DEP - Miss Machine
Mastodon - Leviathan
Pinback - Summer in Abaddon (album of the year for me, even though it's not actually out yet)
Pelican - Australasia

I also recently discovered the band Ozomatli, and while they're nowhere near a favorite of mine, they're a fun little jig up in dis joint.

Franz Ferdinand's self titled is quite addicting, and I've been into that for the past couple of weeks.

I've been listening to the Fiery Furnaces' "Blueberry Boat" due to the overwhelming response and plugging of the album here, and the album certainly deserves it.

I've started listening to a lot of:

!!!
Sparta
Stone Temple Pilots
Fu Manchu
The Cure

The first time I heard Jeff was last year,Everybody Here Wants You..gives me chills all the time. It made me wanna buy Sketches just for that song:lol:

Just a few minutes ago my friend told me about this band, and instantly got into The Fall Of Troy(screamo that sounds like DEP but much more melodic). Their song "Ghostship Part Four" reminds me of The Mars Volta/ATDi. I don't know if anyone else here knows about them, but you can check 'em out on Purevolume.

Ok so heres a semi-new idea for a thread. Basically, you just post what ever song, album or artist you have really been liking at the moment. If it's a new band you could put a little bit about them, good songs etc...

So if this works well enough, we could maybe get it sticky'd ( Nacho? ).

Well, a cool new(ish) band I've been listening to alot lately is These Arms Are Snakes . They are a post-hardcore,art punky band who have one EP out called This is Mean to Hurt You.

Good songs to check out would be:

The Blue Rose
Drinking From the Necks of Loved Ones
Run it Through the Dog
Riding the Grape Dragon

---------------------------------------

I have been listening to Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps alot lately and have come to the conclusion that it is my favourite Neil Young album. Definately check it out!

---------------------------------------

Television - Friction is one incredible song. Ahead of it's time.

If you guys think this is a shitty idea for a thread just say so. If not, update with new stuff whenever you feel the need.

The Datsuns are freaky cool.

I just listened to Jeff Buckley - Live at Sin-e for the first time before, and it is the best live album I've ever heard. Amazing, and a must have for any Buckley fan. The rawness and emotion of the songs contrasted with Jeff's casual talking to the audience and jokes and mocking of other songs is just awesome.

If you want to get to the front get there super early, but be prepared to have a large horizontal bruise across your chest from the barrier. I think it's more fun to stand slightly further back and jump around. Don't be afraid to use your elbows to get people out of your way, it's all kosher. Go for a crap before the gig, have something to do during the support acts.

Practice standing up for prolonged periods to get your back used to it.

Tomahawk and Tangy had some really good tips. Apart from that, don't be too concerned about getting right to the front, unless you really feel you have to. Wear comfortable shoes, and pants that wont fall down :p . If you are going with friends, organize a place to meet at the end and don't worry about losing them in the crowd during the concert. Support the support bands, especially if they are unknown and aren't getting too much of a positive response from the people that don't give a crap about them. Have lots of fun man!!!
