M83 - Before The Dawn Heals Us !!!

This is the most epic and emotional ambient record I've ever heard. It's, like, Godspeed epic. I'm very impressed.

Also, everytime I read the album title, I think it to the melody of the line "Before your father hears us" from Radiohead's "Exit Music (For A Film)," so that's exciting.

They call it "no wave," I guess. It's sort of like more avant garde post-punk. The Contortions play pretty funky rock music with some really hot sax playing (James Chance plays sax and sings, and originally moved to NYC to become a jazz musician) and really angular riffing and anxious-sounding vocals.

They sounded so professional. How are you creating them?

I've gotten good at getting the sound I want with my four track, which is digital, and I'm sure that helps. But I think my mixing software is probably the best thing I use right now to make them sound like they do. It's just a version of Cool edit, but it's really good for what I'm working on. You should hear my old stuff though, it sounds more like actual demos with a lower quality. I guess it's just been a lot of practice and trial and error.

So overall, I record the songs on my four track and mix them with cooledit. That's pretty much it.

Well....let me think, if i was to say only one band it would have to be "Dogs"

They are a relatively new band and have been recently touring with Razorlight, you will find it hard to find a website as they have none. But, just download one of their songs - of course legally ; ) - "Tuned to a Different Station"

It is an ACE track and pretty cool to drum to aswell

Hope this helps

About half an hour ago I went for a walk and listened to Pharoah Sanders' Karma album. It's got a certain uplifting quality about it, which is really nice for night-time walking. The first tune on the album is over a half an hour, and it barely goes anywhere. By that I mean it hardly strays from quickly established themes. What's remarkable about it in this way is that it's both trance-inducing and engaging. The way it moves is just really nice, and when it elevates to sax-honking free jazz pandemonium near the 20 minute mark, the players, and the Pharoah in particular, make ugly sounds feel so perfectly consonant and passionately beautiful. They had me dancing in the street when they sunk back into the Coltrane-quoted ostinato pattern with about five minutes remaining. The album was a very welcome addition to my evening.
