Yeah, pretty big difference actually.

Unida are very straightforward rock, whereas Oneida are a big mash up of krautrock, jazz-stuff, psychadelia and hard rock.

I prefer Oneida to Unida.

Been diggin' Kasabian. I heard "Club Foot" on my PSP Demo disc, bought the album the next day. Absolutley amazing stuff, a good mix of Britpop, Synthpop, and Industrial.

Some tracks employ weird tatics, like layers of synth becoming the beat, bass mixed loader than guitars.

Reccomended tracks:

- Processed Beats
- Reason Is Treason
- Cutt Off

Me too, man. I had a first lesson with a new student like 25 min. away, and the album was almost EXACTLY the length of the trip there and back. It was great. Nothing transcendent, but it was undeniably great. I loved how it managed to be a sort of autobiographical concept album and still have songs that stood independently from each other.

Jay-Z's Black Album really is good, I don't care what sort of prejudices you hold against mainstream rap.

It's a good record. And everyone who says mainstream hiphop is aweful is moronic. Agreed that mainstream hiphop does have it's fair share of bad artists, but it still has its gems; and the same goes to every other musical genre.

I HATE people who say rap = crap. I always have to control myself from shoving a shoe down their throats.

How is the Magic Numbers?

Give me some similar bands.
I love it. I gave it 5/5 on RYM - only one of 4 post-2000 albums to get that distinction.

The Mamas & The Papas are the band they sound most like. Also, Prefab Sprout, The Meat Puppets (a little), The Lovin' Spoonful, The Flaming Lips, and The Beach Boys. Just really happy, poppy stuff, drenched in sunny boy-girl vocal harmonies.

The new Xiu Xiu record, as I see it, bears a much stronger similarity to A Promise rather than the previous record, Fabulous Muscles. It's much quieter with less poppy moments that you found on the last one. While not quite as alienating as A Promise may feel, I don't see it as accessible as Fabulous Muscles was. I've really enjoyed it and as time progresses it's definitely grown on me. I'm excited to see these songs performed next weekend at Intonation :D
