I'd give it a solid 4.1/5 myself.

Death cab is so good((I just saw them a few weeks ago)), and sigur ros is pretty good though they will never live up to the Icelandic goddess bjork. What I recommend that everyone have a listen to is the Hope Of The States album Lost Riots....this is an amazing debut and well worth try to get holed of...especially the special edition version......also got the new The Killers album Hot Fuss.....quite good first couple of tracks worth a listen.......
also althought i have not got it yet...the new album by The Jeevas....only just heared of them but they have Crispen Mills of Kula Shaker fame fronting so it might be a bit of an old skool vibe this week.....
also been play in explosions in the sky for a bit of chilled....and Waxwing and further seems forever for the old emo dosage....
looking at the list tho, i think i might be getting a bit soft so might have to put on some of the old throwdown, beecher etc next week to bring up my hardcore status

I've fallen in love with this band. Personally, I think they are the best alternative rock band (excluding QOTSA) around at the moment. Like Sonic Youth, they can make their instruements work for them and do what they want. They aren't super virtuoso's( they could be?) but they still manage to craft epic, spacey, hard rocking songs.

Something about CocoRosie...
Tilly and the Wall: Saddle Creek (Well, actually "Team Love", but meh) band, really interesting hippy pop. This band even has a tap-dancer. It grows on you.
Mirah: Just a really amazing group all around, the vocals are extremely good and the music keeps you hooked, unlike some of the bland stuff we have to deal with these days.
Shannon Wright: Her music is kind of dark. You might like it, you might not. I can't ever predict the response I'm going to get when I let my friends in on this artist.
As you can probably tell, I've sort of had a craving for female vocals lately. About time... besides Azure Ray, Metric, and maybe a couple other exceptions, the last band I was listening to with a female singing was No Doubt, and that was back when they were still putting out decent music. :)

I don't understand the fuss about Coheed...I don't find them all that impressive. Maybe I'm missing the point.
Nevertheless, I've been digging alot of Faith No More, Melvins, Trail Of Dead, At The Drive-In, Pixies and Mondo Generator lately...I'm into rocking hard these days instead of the artsy experimental stuff that usually dominates my eardrums.
I haven't been so much into rock music since my mid teens when I still listened to alot of Jane's Addiction, Tool, Death Cab For Cutie and Smashing Pumpkins records (although I've pretty much outgrown these bands since I became 18 or so).

I don't understand the fuss about Coheed...I don't find them all that impressive. Maybe I'm missing the point.
Maybe you're listening to even better music, and there's just no room for them to shine in your playlist. If you paid attention to modern music trends on the radio and MTV, you'd see that Co&Ca have taken the poppy hooks of pop-punk and the whiny vocals and added amazing guitar mini-solos and drum fills. Imagine if you saw New Found Glory playing and all of a sudden their guitarist (one of them, anyway) started playing an amazing lead underneath the second chorus. That's about what it is, and also the voice. "A Favor House Atlantic" is the single that's on MTV, and that's all the higher Claudio's voice gets. Most of the time it's a bit more subdued, if you don't like that.
So, that's the point. "The fuss" is that I started getting into them and bumped all their threads in Alt/Indie, CD Reviews, and Pop-Punk forums. Also, their lyrics are very weird, but they have a point that will come out as soon as a comic book based on the story is printed. The chance to know for sure what a progressive band's lyrics mean is the cause of much fuss, let me tell you.

LIFTED or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground is awesome and the best Bright Eyes album to start with. It's one of my favourite albums of all-time. After that, Fevers and Mirrors is pretty bloody good as well.

I don't really like them much. If I want music with bass, drums and piano, I'll take Ben Folds Five.

The Mint Chicks new EP Anti-Tiger is great, it's really crazy stuff. Much more experimental than the first.

Today on the stereo in my head I have been playing 'Everybodys gotta learn sometimes' by Beck, and also pondering how I can get that song without having to buy the whole 'Eternal sunshine...' soundtrack. (I cant d/l it either)
I have also decided to buy Oceanic by Isis, on the strength of 'Carry'

And for the georgie fame fan: check out the song "yeah, yeah" or the one with van morrison and mose allison "one of this days"

One band that is great to listen to is The Stands with their album All Years Leaving.
They're kind of acoustic/folk/soft rock. I'm not really sure how to describe them but they're amazin'. I can't pick one song because they are all good.

I think it depends on the song. Some of their songs have been badly, badly overplayed, and those aren't fun to get into your head.

Get Showbiz . It's my favourite Muse album by far. Origin of Symmetry Has some really good tracks, but it also has a few weaker ones, and Showbiz is a better album overall ... by far.

Thanks for that...
Past couple of days I've checked out:
The Dance Disaster Movement, and they are cool. I'd rather listen to Gang of Four or !!!, but they are a decent enough band.
The Dismemberment Plan. Cool band. I like their approach to music, it's refreshing.
I've also rediscovered Fiery Furnaces. Their new one, Blueberry Boat is great. It's like Gallowsbird Bark (?) but improved on the weaker areas. Tighter songwriting, better craftsmanship and they've extended alot of the songs, a couple little rock-opera's in there. I definately recommend it.

I'm thinking of picking up Blueberry Boat. I've seen nothing but praise.
Anyways, what I've been listening to:
*I have Singles by the Smiths, so now I'm getting all the albums. I love Meat is Murder ("Headmaster Ritual" is their best song ever) but The Queen is Dead is disappointing. Aside from the title track, the only other good songs on the album are already on Singles, so there's no point.
*Laughing Stock by Talk Talk is amazing (props to nosferatu_man). It's similar to Sigur Ros as far as long, minimalist, orchestral songs, but with more emphasis on the vocals.
*Peace Love Death Metal by the Eagles of Death Metal is pretty good, but I can't figure out if it's legitimate or a guilty pleasure.
*I dug out my copy of Let it Be by the Replacements, loved it again, got Tim and Pleased to Meet Me, and loved them too. Everyone needs to check out the Replacements; Paul Westerberg was one of the most brilliant 80's alternative songwriters.
It's a very legit album. It's just not as serious as you expect it to be, thats why I love it. That's the appeal. It's good time music, it's not very challenging but thats what's great about it... To me anyway.
Oh yeah, definately check Blueberry Boat out, it is superb. Close to top album of the year for me.
