Yeah. I've basically just listened to that EitS album today. It's been a while since I've connected with an album as much as I have with this one.
Also I've been listening to the song Safe From Harm by Massive Attack. A lot.

'The World Is Not A Cold Dead Place' was my introduction to post rock. And its all thanks to this forum otherwise I would have never heard of them. I'm pondering over what other post rock albums to get. I've heard alot of good things from Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Mogwai, Do Say Make Think, Sigur Ros etc. etc Any recommendations?
Gddspeed is the logical step after EiTS. It's just the way things are done.

GSYBE! is alot more random noises and computers. They're good, but sometimes I get bored with them really easily.

i went in reverse (which is the correct way, honestly), cause without Godspeed i probably would never have liked EiTS.
Godspeed is more story driven in their epic songs. EiTS follows a more straightforward approach to like a "short" poem.

I didn't really mean the post-rock originators (that goes to Slint and Talk Talk), but the originators of the style that GY!BE and EitS both possess. A style of a more orchestral rock sound within the genre.

Hey, Post your opinions on these lyrics:
What is Love
What is love
Just a unique obsession
A mental possesion
Another hard learned lesson
Deppressed, obsessed, and possible possesed
What is this destructive sydrome that bonds us so tightly
Only to let us go so lightly
Could it possibly be anxiety, a mental malfunction, A chronic junction
Two paths to go by, only one to know why
(chorus1)
Why did I bestow upon this path
People look at me and laugh
Sometimes I wonder to myself
Is this all in good health
(chorus1)
Choke my thoughts, drown my dreams
Mend my heart
Stop Looking at me
Stay away, I need some room
I am sure of it
All is doomed
(chorus2)
My heart is broken
Thoughts are open
Don't you dare now
Don't invoke it
(chorus2)
(chorus1)
Why did I bestow upon this path
People look at me and laugh
Sometimes I wonder to myself
Is this all in good health
(chorus1)
What is hope, it hurts to show
What is pain, like you would know
Why does this romance hurt me so
What is love, Ill never know

01-13-2005, 08:46 PM
And These:
You Lied
I lie here, pondering things you said to me
Things that never were and will never be
Now I realize, I'm getting mad
Don't say a word, don't make me sad
Tread lightly, Don't even test me
Be careful or I'll make you bleed
What was that, something about my creed
What was that that you said to me
Mark my words, You'll die here in the roughs
Short, sweet, and simple, or we can make this tough
Oh c'mon, haven't you had enough
(chorus)
You lied to me, isn't that enough
You lied to me, this is gonna be rough
You lied to me, that's the path you choose
You lied to me, this is the wrath you brought out of the blues
So next time you feel like screwin with me
Remember this, All things come to me
(chorus)
Come on now, why did you say that
Don't you try now, I'm gonna make you pay for that
Show me your emotions
Betray your devotions
For I am the one that spread the ocean
That's right you know who I am
That's right I slayed the queen of the ****ed
It would be wise not to play with me
Instead, do my bidding, go out and be free
(chorus)
You lied to me, isn't that enough
You lied to me, this is gonna be rough
You lied to me, that's the path you choose
You lied to me, this is the wrath you brought out of the blues
So next time you feel like screwin with me
Remember this, All things come to me
(chorus)
Oh really, you don't believe me
Well go ahead, just try and decieve me

Yeah, I know, I've been reading the review of it in real time :) I just can't stand the death metal parts of the album, which unfortunately is most of it. It's just awful :-/ Especially when combined with the lyrics, which don't flow at all, it's horrible. I'm going to spend longer listening to it before I make a real decision though. It's not all bad, there are a few moments which are really good, but that just kind of makes the fact that the rest of it is bad worse.
In better news, Leviathan I thoroughly enjoyed. I also got Loveless just the other day, but haven't had time to listen to it past the first track yet. Excellent first track, though.

Do they sound like Can?Well, considering Can are a timeless, classic, genre-bending kraut rock band, and the Mooney Suzuki are a garage rock/punk act riding the wave of current trends, I'm gonna go ahead and reply with a big "no".

The problem with guided by voices is that there are always a few songs on any album you do not like. The reason for this is the sheer quantity of songs I guess. A good Guided by voices album is determined by the good songs : bad songs ratio. But there are always both kinds on any album.
