The Afghan Whigs are so underrated.

And coming from a ringleader of the Ween Posse, that's saying something.

I'm really enjoying the Ordinary Boys at the moment, plus a load of cheesy Christmas songs, including Wham!.

I've been listening to a Christmas mix I recently put together...
Here's the tracklist:

1. The Raveonettes - "The Christmas Song"
2. Dismemberment Plan - "This Christmas"
3. U2 - "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)"
4. The Beach Boys - "Frosty The Snowman"
5. Tom Petty - "Christmas All Over Again"
6. Eels - "Christmas Is Going To The Dogs"
7. Crash Test Dummies - "We Three Kings"
8. The Walkmen - "Christmas Party"
9. Yo La Tengo - "It's Christmas Time"
10. The Polyphonic Spree - "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)"
11. The Flaming Lips - "A Change at Christmas"
12. Phantom Planet - "Carol of the Bells"
13. Low - "Just Like Christmas"
14. Death Cab for Cutie - "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)"
15. Ron Sexsmith - "Maybe This Christmas"
16. Pedro the Lion - "I Heard the Bells On Christmas Day"
17. Ivy - "Christmas Time Is Here"
18. Coldplay - "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"
19. Sufjan Stevens - "What Child Is This Anyway"

and in a complete change of pace... I've been listening to this local band, Yeti On A Budget. I judged a Battle of the Bands yesterday and this band was amazing, but the other judges didn't think so. They preferred the Good Charlotte pop-punk horseshit.

But you guys should check out their music: http://www.yetionabudget.com - Specifically "Kuba's Shanty"

More a one-off project than a real band, Hermano remains most noteworthy for featuring vocalist John Garcia of Kyuss fame. Garcia, who was also recording with Unida around the same time as Hermano at the end of the '90s, gives the group much of its character, though it's also worth acknowledging that the remaining bandmembers are also established: bassist David Angstrom (Supafuzz, Black Cat Bone), drummer Steve Earle (Afghan Whigs), and guitarists Mike Callahan (Disengaged) and Dandy Brown (Orquesta del Desierto). The band's recording output, eight songs, took a few years to be released, when Tee Pee Records released the Only a Suggestion album in 2002.

There's an infomercial on now for "Classic Country Hits." But I agree, what little I've heard of that old school country (basically a bit of Johnny Cash plus the GTA station) is some pretty good stuff. I'd go over yonder to Soulseek and download some crap, but my soundcard died. :upset:

Tom Waits' Rain Dogs is dominating now...once this album grows on me...it'll become one of my favorites...I'm convinced of it.

Oh, and St. Germain is cool easy listening music...very recommended.

Yeah, my CD is awesome too. Much more 'indie' than I usually listen to but it's really cool. Some stuff I already knew (Incubus, The Roots) plus some great bands I never knew of (Stroke 9, Eve 6, And Christopher O'Riley's Radiohead covers).

I have an idea of who sent it but I don't want to say right now. :)

St. Germain, yes orbdragon, he is a legend.

It's been a while since I posted in Alt/Indie, but I heard a band that made me very excited, that is to say 'death from above 1979'. They're a bass/drums/vox duo from Canada, that play this squeltchy hyper-energetic funky punk/metal. The songs are full of good hooks. If you are interested, download 'Little Girl' to hear a song that makes a modest guy go bonkers in his bedroom, and I hope in an Indie disco very soon.

He was in a band with Morphine's drummer in the 80s. Haven't heard them , but according to Nacho they're pretty good. Maybe I'll ask my old english teacher if he has any of their CDs, because he was the one that got me into Morphine in the first place.

O.K,
recentley, I've been mostly listening to:

"Stop Making Sense" a live album by the talking heads,
highlights include: "Pshcyo Killer, Life During War Time,Slippery People"
I only just sort of realised what an amzing band the talking heads were, my dad allways used to listen to them, I used to get annoyed cause the music didn't sound good. But I borrowed a greatest hits off him about three months ago and it hasn't stopped spinning, it's a truly great album, and the live one is awesome too. David Byrne is a wayward genious.

"The Essential Bob Dylan-Bob Dylan" A greatest hits, spanning his whole great carreer, from "Blowin' in the wind" to "Things have changed" it's all gold, what else can be said about Bob Dylan other than "Legend". My favourite tracks are "Can you please crawl out your window?" "Subteranean Homesick Blues" "Rainy Day women #12 & 35" and finally the epic "Hurricane" a legend and a classic colelction.

"Radiohead-Pablo Honey" an interesting alternative album, what first attracted me is the obvious hit "Creep" but within this album there are some true gems, such as "You" "Anyone can play guitar" and the amazing "Vegetable", sure, you can call Radiohead deppressed middle age men, but i think this album is amazing, there are better Radiohead albums out there (The Bends, O.K computer etc.) but this is a great place to start.

It was called "If I Should Fall From Grace - The Shane MacGowan Story", but it wasn't a DVD, it was just on regular television.

It was basically just interviews with Shane and his family and band members and Nick Cave. Pretty interesting though, he's an amazing dude with an amazing liver.

Ah, cool. I think it's available on DVD, which is good, because the chances of my seeing it on TV are miniscule :(

I'd recommend reading A Drink With Shane MacGowan, if you can, it's very good.

Odelay is pointless in a world that has Paul's Boutique.

in a world that compares the two albums there is no need for both, since people will make unneeded comments like that.

I do a lot of smoking, and I kinda like music, so I amalgamated the 2.

Fun game, Guess what happened next?

The little squre with the check marke and the x in the left corner of every post allows you to either positively or negatively repute any member based on a particular post. Based on how much reputation you yourself have, the user "repped" will gain or lose different amounts on their total.

Also, Rolling Stones' Exile On Main St. has just finished playing for the 3rd time today. I think I've nearly grasped it's greatness.

Today I have been mostly listening to various things from this year, in preperation for a list of 2004's best album I'm going to make. Right now - Keane. Fun times.

The New Pornographers!

I got this album (Mass Romantic) a few months ago, and never gave it a listen. Now that I have, I wish I would have earlier. Pure indie pop bliss.

Yeah, remember I told you to get it off someone with a 130 download rate and the whole album only took like 10 minutes to download.

Booker Ervin. A top notch jazz saxophonist who doesn't get enough recognition.
