There's a big difference between cars and music. A car runs at high performance or low performance whether or not you like it. Music is 100% subjective. You're really reaching here.

Like I said, folk/country influences don't exactly mean "flower power"

3.Aerosmith - Dream On
But im probably gonna go with Stairway, Born to Run, Hotel California, Hey Jude, and something else. Any ideas?

It can help though, lyrically and musically. John Lennon wrote many drug related songs which were related to his use of marijuana and LSD. He was stoned once and went into the studio. He wound the tape the wrong way which led to him recording songs backwards and then putting the tape on backwards and publishing some material using this technique.

Sgt._Joker
02-16-2005, 05:25 AM
hmm yer^ but u cant make music while your stoned, i've heard and watched countless famous Rock Stars on tely say:

"i went into the studio once, after taking half a cup of acid, and recording some songs and thinking "Your fu*king Jimmi Hendrix!!!" but then i came back the next day and its absolute sh*t!"

but one really fuc*ing great thing i heard was from Noel Gallagher of Oasis After talking about wriitting lyrics when your stoned, and recording music when your stoned he said:
"But you know, in the end you've got to be true to yourself, and your fans"

I think drugs can inspire you to write music (good and bad), but an artist can't rely on dropping acid or smoking pounds of marijuana just to write good music. I think being stoned just makes you think of a cool idea or perspective to write a song, it's still up to you and your skills to actually write and perform it though. I've written more good songs sober than high, but usually when I'm high I think of really good ways to improve songs I've already written.

Good luck with your acid Schyma, be careful too.

So you know how I bought that friend of mine that Beatles sheet music book? Well she said she started learning Eleanor Rigby and it sounds pretty good. I'm excited now. I wish I could play keys good.

ATM
02-16-2005, 12:41 PM
The problem with playing stoned is that you could play a power chord, and just stand there admiring it and letting it ring out. You'll be thinking "This is amazing.". But, in the end... it's just a chord.

Exactly, that's why you still need skill. I don't even play guitar when I'm stoned anymore, it's sort of a waste of time because I can't concentrate. I just think of good ideas for songs, then when I'm sober I go and play them.

Can someone explain to me what The Weight is about? My friend heard it, and asked me what it was about and I couldn't answer him. Anyone know?

I just needed some place
Where I could rest my head
"Hey mister could you tell me
where a man might find a bed?"
The man just shook my hand
"No" was all he said

First verse right there

Yea, that's The Band - The Weight

Yea we were just talking about how all new music sucks and classic rock is awesome.

Well, I do like the Chili Peppers, Tool, and the White Stripes. I can pick out a few decent songs here and there from some of the other bands out there too.

At least he told us the name of the song where the lyrics you posted came from. Honestly I really had no idea what song it was until he did that.

From what I know about our history together, I am. You interupted with a bland statement that has been said thousands times here. We were in the middle of a conversation.

I. How is something "commonly" true?
II. Either way it added nothing to the conversation at hand. It was counterproductive.
III. We hate misinformed dipshits here, so vamoose, son of a bitch.

It's not "commonly true", because many people have different opinions on the matter. I might have ignored one of your posts, but you followed the first bad one with an equally as annoying "Led Zeppelin is the best band ever" post.

I don't usually give lectures on English, but when something is "commonly true", it means that with many people it is true. You yourself admitted that in your previous post.

And I find it quite hard to see how my favorite band possibly annoy you. Well, unless you are the typical cliche music snob. Which, my friend, is nothing to be bragging about.

My post reguarding classic rock vs. new music was completely sarcastic.

It annoys me, and everyone else here, because ignorant people like you waste time and space by interupting a productive conversation we were having. You come and say things that have been said by many other ignorant people that wish to interupt our conversations.

Yea... because most 14 year olds listen to Led Zeppelin, not Ja Rule. I thought you were supposed to be "informed". I really don't feel I need to defend Zeppelin.

At this point, arguing with you about music would be as productive as talking to GWB about the war in Afganistan.

Wait, I thought it was "commonly true" that many people prefer classic rock. If most of them listen to Ja Rule, then it is not very common.

Yes, because Linkin Park, Creed, Nickel Back, and 50 cent ae the equivolent of genius.

No one is questioning that there are plenty of talented bands out right now, but what is in the norm right now, what is on MTV, or your local radio station... isn't.

Argue all you want, I lose brain cells everytime I turn on MTV.

I. I was clearly making a generalization, but what I say is "commonly true": most of the kids who get into classic rock like Led Zeppelin and maybe three or four other bands
II. Listen pal, just cause I went off on you because you generally acted stupid doesn't mean I'm close-minded. I'm 100% sure I like more music than you do.
