The guitar playing in Old & In the Way has never really excited me. Though, it really shouldn't. Being that Old & In the Way is a traditional Bluegrass band the guitar is strickly a rhythmic instrument. So, as you can see, Rowan does come out that much. Lead Bluegrass guitar didn't really come around until Clarence White of The Byrds and various other bands.

I usually just learn them beside the computer unless they are solo's where I need the amp to know if I'm doing in right or not.

Fine. What dance music do you think I would like? Keeping in mind that I like mainly loud *** guitar rock.

I also think Warren is better. Though I do find him a bit choppy, and Derek a bit more smooth, it's irrelevant. Because look at Neil Young, or listen to "Woodstock". He can not be playing anymore jagged and choppy, but Neil is stills a fabulous guitarist. And so is Warren, as is Derek :).

Duane>Dickey>Warren>Derek

Here are some old posts that I'm going to quote.

Allmans>Skynyrd

I don't learn a lot of real songs from tab. I usually just improvise/write my own songs, or just try to learn a song by ear. If there's a song that I can't figure out though, I will usually print it off. I don't learn a lot of mainstream songs though, mostly bluegrass (unless I need to impress someone).

Do you guys ever go to parties, and there's a guitar there that keeps getting passed around by all the drunk people, and you get really nervous it's gonna get broken? I can't stand seeing a guitar sitting in the middle of the room, with drunk people stumbling all around it...even if I don't know who's guitar it is, I get very protective.

And I have heard way more Skynyrd than Allmans to make an educated decision on who is better...although I'd say I like Skynyrd more, just because they seem more accessable, not as good at jams though.

As far as technical ability goes (though melodically, slide wise, and writing wise the list would be different).

Duane = Herring > Haynes = Betts > Trucks

It's an interesting album. I went in knowing it wouldn't be the Pink Floyd of DSOTM, but it still surprised me how much different the album is from the latter Pink Floyd. I guess that's what happens when someone like Syd is being the guy with all the songs, or most of them.

Well, The Byrd's could not have broken up due to one of Crosby's off hand remarks. Because I'm pretty sure that Crosby left during the 60's and never came back. And they of course broke up during '73, therefore he couldn't have really played a role in the breakup.

Just bought Pink Floyd's 'Piper At The Gates Of Dawn.'

It's an interesting album. I went in knowing it wouldn't be the Pink Floyd of DSOTM, but it still surprised me how much different the album is from the latter Pink Floyd. I guess that's what happens when someone like Syd is being the guy with all the songs, or most of them.

It's a good album, but I think I preffer 'Wish You Were Here' more.

PATGOD can really grow on you though. Be careful or else you'll end up listening to Interstellar Overdrive all the time.

Haha, I think ANGUS YOUNG 13's neg rep actually increased my rep total.

I'd agree, I'm not a big fan of greatest hits and how they've taken of the world along with singles and hits with the new easy to download tracks and burnable cd's. To be quite honest I think they're just another step in to massacreing music in to pretty much anything that flows and is within the limits of my particular social group is pure gold. When in reality it's a shallow, simple, boring, formulaic, unoriginal, unemotional heap of flaming **** that's been done a million times before.

However the Simon and Garfunkle greatest hits is failry well done and fairly large, so it's one of the few greatest hits that has done a decent job.

Ya, hehe. I just wanted to present my theory to everyone else. I find there are few people I can trust to reccomend good music, everyone and their mother is reccomending these gods that will blow your mind. And yet it has nothing special about it at all. If you can make a 3 minute song that flows (easiest thing in the world, honestly, try it, it's beyond easy, really, pick a few white keys on your piano, play them in 4/4 time, you win) people will love it, they will become completely consumed by it. Mind you they'll move on to a new fad rather quickly.

I hate it.

Yea that is a big part of it. There are lines that man destroyed God, and that terrible people use God's name in vain and things like that. In "Wind Up" the main character finds his God and taunts the Christian Church by saying "he's not the kind of God you have to wind up on Sundays".

That sounds like a fairly good descripition. If you listen to the album alot of it is critical of religion, but the album is not meant to criticize religion itself. I think more accurately as badmoon put it it's a criticism of how religion has been organized, and similar themes could be used for the way many things have been organized, sort of an indoctrination type thing more than focusing on actually reaching the supposed, and quite frankly much better goal.

That's one of my favourites songs and lines because I've always felt this way. Any god who should rightfully be called god doesn't want you to go and "wind him up" on sundays, he would want you to live a respectable life, which does not necessarily require church.

Borders, and no, I will not upload it for you. There's like 4 discs.

It isn't as good as you'd think. There is a cool Cpt. Beefheart song though ;).

The other one needs to be deleted. Why would you even start a thread called Classic Rock when there already is one on the first page of forums?

Piggies-The Beatles

Piggies isn't psychotic, smooth and cool. It needs to be subtle and light, but needs a harsh subject. Like "Excitable Boy" is presented in a catchy and nice way, but is about a psycho murder.

I'm not sure I know what you mean by "psychotic", but Thorazine Shuffle is cool and smooth. However, by no means is it psychotic.

So Thorazine Shuffle doesn't fit? What about St. Stephen or Franklin's Tower?

The lyrics have to be mad. Each one of those songs speaks about a harsh person, a psycho criminal, or a murder.

Check out the trend.

-Maxwell = Murder
-Esther = Possible rapist
-Speaker (Good morning...) = Possible rapist
-Me (Me & my...) = Hypocritcal murder/criminal
-Speaker (Skinned) = Psycho/Murder
-Excitable Boy = Psychopathic murder

What should I review...

Dr. John - Gris Gris
The Byrds - Sweetheart of the Rodeo

I don't feel like checking on the lyrics (Haven't listened to Junta in awhile), so decide for yourself.

EDIT: You and your ninja edits!

Just add it yourself, you both came up with good examples. Try to keep in mind that the music should not reflect the songs topic.

I'm doing Dr. John. Too good to be passed up.
