Yes, classic rock is becoming more popular anongst teenagers these days. Not all of them but at least a minority of us are classic rockers. Like I'm 15 and there's nothing else I listen to. Teenagers these days are not familiar with one of the greatest rock and rool guitarists ever though, Jeff Beck.

The best bands are all old shcool/classic rock. There isn't a band out there that is half as good as the Clash or the Ramones or AC/DC (My favorites) well, AC/DC is still making records and touring long live Angus! But seriously people in my shcool don't even know who Joe Sturmmer is, I know shocking huh. Yeah, the all watch the rock 'n' roll murderer TV channel (aka MTV). There are awesome bands out there right now that aren't on MTV. Like the Dropkick Murphys. I think we should all start a revolution and kill MTV.

Already underway. Just sit tight my friend :)

I agree with everything you said exept for the clash and the ramones being good thing. They were early punk. Early punk may be better than recent punk but it's still punk right? Ahh.

Man tonight was awesome, Randy Bachman really got everybody going! and in the middle of hey you they tied it in with a few other songs including honky tonk woman and wild thing, it was done amazingly. I had a great spot too, right at the front by the stage, dead center. It started raining (pretty hard) during lighthouse's set but it just helped everyone loosen up although the roadies were busy some of the equipment near the edge of the stage didn't get soaked.

This one lady was insane though she was right at the front, sitting down the whole time and she was cranky and pissing off at everyone. When one of the balls that were flying around came to her she just held on to it and was being insanely bitchy about it. Meh, I had an awesome time.

Since we're talking about the Bros... I bought Shades of Two Worlds a month or two ago and...... THAT is where it's at! "Come On In My Kitchen", "Kind of Bird", and "Nobody Knows" are amazing songs. Strongly recomended and don't let the release date (1991) fool you. They still show tons of skill like they did in the early-mid 70's. NOW GO AND BUY THE FUDGIN' ALBUM.

YOU JERKASORUS!!!!

Seriously, go buy it...

ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6.

so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?

Well, well. Someone has finally noticed it... Well, actually I have seen a swarm of classic rock lovers. But one must also consider that when you are into a particular thing, it seems to be prevalent around you. For example, when I got into my star wars phase, it seemed like everyone was into star wars. But yes, classic rock is coming back (finally). Being 15 years old, I actually see a lot of classic rock t-shirts. My favourite bands are pink floyd and led zeppelin. I see lots of led zeppelin shirts, but not enough pink floyd shirts. Give one of the greatest rock bands some credit. Actually, I think that most people misread pink floyd's music. It is not music to get high to. Their music tells a story. Listen to it, maybe you'll understand. Anyway, one may ask: "what's wrong with today's music?" Well, I'll tell you. Lack of creativity. One group ttries to mimic what other crap groups do. Rap songs: all you do is come up with some words that rhyme and put them to synthesized music. Alternative rock: all the bands sound the same. They play nothing but chords and simple riffs. No good solos. What happened to the solos? Bands have nothing to define themselves these days. Led zeppelin had robert plant's unique voice, jimmy page's rough riffs, john bonham's crazy drum solos, and john paul jones's basslines. Pink floyd had their own complete sound. These days everyone's voices even sound the same. people show up on tv too often, too. they have no time to write good quality songs. The message conveyed is important, too. today's groups sing about "i don't give a f***." Classic rockers sing about love, about life. Another thing that makes classic groups like led zeppelin great is their cultural diversity. The song white summer by led zeppelin is (i think) old indian style. Whatever musical elements classic groups could find, they found a way to use. That lacks these days. You can tell if a group spent their time trying to get a song perfect. Listen to led zeppelin's achilles last stand and you will see what i mean. these days, groups rush their recording, not attempting perfection. In essence, classic rock is more creative than modern rock. Listen to it and you will see.

At thirteen my dad introduced me to Jimi Hendrix's music since then I have been a classic rock junkie. I've noticed a bit of revival among teenagers lately and I've been encouraging them. As far as bands bringing the sound back I'm a big fan of Jet. Their stuff reminds me of old Iggy Pop and AC/DC stuff. I hope more show up to help return Rock to the time before punk.

Another great example of classic rock groups blending varied musical styles is Iron Butterfly's "Inna-Gadda-Da-Vida" It's a crazy psychedelic love song consits mostly of instrumental. But a major part of Iron Butterfly's sound is a church organ. Check it out for seventeen minutes of great psychedelic rock.

War - I love this band. Currently I'm trying to pile up on their CD's but I still got ways to go. What I love aobut them is that they are a Classic Funkish Soulish Latinish Jam Band. They always provide awesome jams and great lyrics. The mellow funk grooves just hit the spot for me. They're quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. So far my favorite work of theirs is on All Day Music . It's their second album and probably their best. All 7 songs are a joy to listen with "Baby Brother" and "All Day Music" being my favorites. ooo and while i was gone, i went to the st. louis jazz festival. I TOUCHED WYNTON MARSALLEIS. and got his autograph. that was an awesome concert. Other updates, i got two new cds. I was upset with my complete lack of a beach boys album so i got their latest greatest hits album: Sounds of Summer: the Beach Boys Greatest Hits. It's amazing. 30 Godlike songs for $10. get it now. And i got Concert For George which is also great and well worth the money. Only low is Tom Petty's singing on 3 tracks. But it's made up for by the best versions of Something, While my Guitar Gently Weeps, and My Sweet Lord. Even Ringo turns in a spectacular performance. But the biggest standout is probably Billy Preston, also known as the 5th Beatle. His vocals and keyboard work on My Sweet Lord and Isn't It a Pity are truly awe inspiring. Jeff Lynne of Electric Light Orchestra also turns in some great performances, as does Joe Brown. And Clapton and McCartney are of course outstanding as usual.

By the way guys, thanks for keeping this thread going, when i started it i had no idea it would be so successful, but look at it now: one of the biggest threads in R&M with over 2000 posts!

Oh that's right, cause a sort of above average guitarist from the 60s and 70s is automaticly better than a really good one from the 80s/90s. The older they are and if they are from a well known band that got 80 percent of it's same from one bad powerchord riff that all of the 10 years can play counts for points

no jeff beck is not dead, he plays on a song on the album. they also have people like slash, satriani, jeff baxter, john reznick, and many more playing on the album. These are just guests on some songs though. They added a new lead guitarist to take the place of clapton, page, and beck, and he seems to be up to the task believe it or not. And they needed a new singer cuz their old singer/harmonica person died. But the new person they have on harmonica is GOD. His solos sound like an electric guitar solo complete with distortion and stuff...

Sly and the Family Stone is their full names. Sadly all i have is a compilation album, but they are quite upbeat rock, laced with funk and soul. They performed at Woodstock, and therefore definately qualify as classic rock. Sly Stone himself overdosed shortly after.
They are best known for the song "Everyday People" which you may know from Toyota commercials.
Other great songs include "Dance to the Music," "I Wanna Take You Higher," "Everybody is a Star," "You Can Make it if you Try," "Hot Fun in the Summer Time," "It's a Family Affair," and many many more.

My personal Favorite though it "thank you (falletinme be mice elf agin)", pronounced thank you for letting me be myself again. if u like these i can give u more....

"According to folklorist Alan Lomax in his book Our Singing Country (1941), the melody of "The House of the Rising Run" is a traditional English ballad and the lyrics were written by Georgia Turner and Bert Martin (both from Kentucky). The song was first recorded in the 1920s by black bluesman Texas Alexander and later covered by Leadbelly, Charlie Byrd, Roy Acuff, Woody Guthrie, the Weavers, Peter, Paul & Mary, Henry Mancini, Dolly Parton, David Allan Coe, John Fahey, Waylon Jennings, Tim Hardin, Buster Poindexter, Marianne Faithful, Tracy Chapman and Bob Dylan . . . just to name a few. No, I fully agree. I have never understood the love people have for Kiss. Mediocre music, a seriously overdone boring image...I just don't get them. Anyone care to explain why they like them?

i used to agree with you. I was not a Kiss fan at all. Until i saw them live. There is something about a Kiss live show that brings new fans into the band. Kiss are not about technical playing or impressing people, they are about the songwriting and the message. 90% of their songs are about sex and the way they craft them is fantastic. Granted the good musicians in the band came later in their career (Bruce Kulick, Eric Singer) the original lineup and the sound and the attitude to attract fans the way they did. No one had a live show like Kiss, not even Alice Cooper (whom Kiss learned alot from) and if you ask anyone who played a les paul in the 1970s and early 80's they would tell you it was becuase of their love for Ace. Kiss is so universal to listen to, theres no thought involved when putting on a Kiss cd...their music is uplifiting, catchy, and memorable and thats something that alot of musicians cant be taught is having the right ear to write music people want to hear and not just want you want to make. Also, it had to do with the time period. Kiss were the band your parents and society hated you to like, and thats what drove so many fans to them. They werent affraid of pissing people off and when Kiss came out they wanted to give people the best bang for their buck with live shows because they felt to many bands cheated people out of a memorable live perfomance. Kiss were what kept the fun in rock n roll whereas to many people take it to sersoiusly by putting so many restrictions and limitations onto a rock band. Its hard to explain, but if you ever get the chance to experience a Kiss live show youd have a new respect for them...not to say youd like them, but you might get a better understanding where it came from. :thumb:

I don't really like kiss. I find their songs mediocre at best. 90% of songs are about sex... and their music is about the message? I think that'd get a little bit repetitive. They are about impressing people, more so then I would say they're about the music, what do you think all those explosions and all that makeup and such are for? I'm not saying this is a bad thing, I saw an alice cooper show a while ago and he put on a great show, due in large part to his theatrics - It's just fun to be up there (which is what kiss is actually about). They just seem mediocre to me. Sure if I went to one of their shows I'm sure I'd have a good time. Unfortunatley that's about as far as my liking kiss (at all) goes.

I really don't like gene simmons (from a seeing him in interviews perspective) but that's a whole other story.

I started to like classic rock by listening to my dad's cassette of the eagles hell freezes over, and i got hooked. Zeppelin is by far the best. Rush and Van Halen are really good too. and the yardbirds are very underrated, for the talent they had as the first real guitar band, i believe. but i never got into the beatles, ironically, i find them annoying.

I was watching a special on them yesterday...probably on VH1, and it went over all the stuff they did to make it big time, and how much better live was than CDs, and how full of themselves they were. Alright i'll rephrase it. People on musician forums don't like kiss in general. And I didn't say that they didn't play music. B0nz0 did, and that was sort of cleaver.

Geez man lighten up.

I'd like to see the doobie brothers. They're a great band and it would be a good show. The blues screen is really good these days. With the allmans, kenny wayne shefferd, doobie brothers, zz top, plenty of lesser known bands. Good times for people who can get into bars. :(. Actually it's not as good as it was in the 60s. He drummer is jaw dropping and the show itslef is just great. The did some of Jimi Hendrix's songs, Little Wing and Fire and i was blown away. The little wing cover was SO. F'UCKING. GOOD. The bassisst is great, he was soloing and he did this one solo wntirely with harmonics and wow.... Steve Vai himself.... Hes mastery of the guitar is something ive never EVER seen before. He handles it like a god. just the variety of sounds he get out of it and the way he makes it SCREAAAM and holds notes for forever and the way he uses he whammy bar. To write songs like those i heard... i've no idea how they do it. I actually havnt heard much Steve Vai, and the music itslef i cant totally dig, but the show was amazing. *sigh* G'nite.

Some people are just better than others. He's obviously a very special musician. Let me just say this, you will never be as good as him or bonam or neil peart. but you can be as good as you possibly can and there's nothing wrong with that. im not. i like plenty of $hit musicians but people say they were the BEST musicians ever, and completely believe it, its ridiculous they are way over rated. they did not write the best songs of all time. there is one or two songs i can listen to and not want to hurt small creatures. they're music is dull, gutless and boring.

As musicians they were underrated. Of course they had their overrated moments. But here, on most of Paul McCartney's solo albums, he played each instrument, and did it well. George Harrsion played 46 instruments well, and pretty much introduced the sitar to Rock. John Lennon was quite a good piano player. And Ringo set the path for millions of up and coming drummers. He kept a good rythm and played with a now very common style, which was rarely, if never seen then.
