Then why did you quote it?
Because you said he makes songs about drinking songs, and that just popped into my head, so I couldn't help but post it.
And it is an extremely stupid line.

Is Arlo Guthries music a lot different than Woodys? Or are they in simliar/the same genres? I've never actually heard anything by Woody Guthrie, but I've heard a lot of artists cover his songs.
There voices are nothing alike, but they both play Folk music.

i have always wondered if music today could ever become what is was in the sixties: revolutionary, inspirational, and fresh...now there are a lot of good bands, but most sound a lot like each other, and don't possess the same drive that the bands of the sixties used to blaze a trail for the music frontier... saying this the band The Mars Volta has answered my question to if there would ever be a expance of our music frontier... They blow Santana out of the water, and they press all their albums on vinal too. you have to give them a chance for sure, but the guitar is the best i have ever experienced.

I'm 15 and way into bands like The Rolling stones and the doors. However what sarted me off on finding great classick rock (i LOVE led zeppelin) was shamefully bands such as The Darkness and even, yes, avril lavigne. So although the music itself is rubbish it DOES get teens to tear down halfnaked christina posters and start looking at guitars and proper legends instead.

Yeah, and at least their lyrics have somewhat more meaning. As a female I am not impressed with anything bitches/hos/pimps and the general atitude towards women in that stuff. It sounds cheesy, but I DON'T WANT TO BE TREATED LIKE THAT. At least GC doesn't sing about that crap

The Mars Volta's record was, for me, the most disappointing album of all time. From all I heard about them, this album was going to be better than getting a blowjob, but it's so affected, contrived, and joyless...it's the antithesis of classic rock.

Most people make the mistake of comparing their self titled album to their following albums. Their s/t without a doubt isn't even in the same league with the other albums they made. It's honestly one of the best albums of all time. Just so many great songs on it, and they were amazing at harmony, guitar harmony and vocal 3 part harmony. Good stuff. I recommend it to any Classic Rock fan, although their other albums don't hold up as well.
edit- I understand what you mean Walrus Gumboot, but the thing is...Simple Plan and those kinds of bands probably would sing about pimps and hoes, except they are still afraid of girls. They sing more about cooties and having a 'crush' on a girl they've never talked to.

Bostons self titled album is considered a 'one hit wonder' i think...since it blew all their other albums away and is probably the only one people are willing to buy from the band. Its a great album, though its not really my type of music, but i love the song foreplay too long, good stuff.
thickasabrick
01-28-2005, 11:35 AM
Well I think it was because Boston had their whole lives up intil the recording date to write the songs for their s/t album, so they were all of great quality. After the massive success of their debut, their contract forced them to put out a bunch of new songs really quickly, and they never had enough time to create the same quality of songs, since they were so rushed. If they were able to wait longer between releasing more albums, they might have been better. That's how a lot of bands are though, after their debut album they run out of song ideas and they are rushed to complete another album.

Thats why no band should ever want to make their first album their greatest. One Hit wonders are terrible for music, a new band enters with a big band, money-sucking producers and record labels want more now, so it totally ****s up everything.
Usually first albums are some of the best for certain bands though...i guess since they have so many years before their first studio recordings, and if their successful, they have to live up to that reputation within the next 1 year or so. Its really harder then it sounds...especially when you have constant touring and promotions up the yin yang, but thats what happens when money comes first

Badmoon I liked that other avatar of Jerry you had, when I first came here. It was him a little younger than he is in your current one. Back when all our postcounts were a couple thousand lower.
So today I had to practice this upcoming show in which we are playing a Sting song, a Beatles song, and a Brand New song. It makes me very angry because the tab/chords for Brand New were wrong when we learned them, so it sounds horrible when played with a singer...so I had to go through and figure them all out the right way. Luckily it's all fifths.

What are we doing?
What are we doing?
Talking about Canadian people?
Mainly Canadian classic roxorz because we like to stay on topic and not argue stupidly. Riiiiiiight?
April Wine is a good corperate rock (yes it's possible) band from Canada. Bryan Adams is good, atleast his rock songs are.
And then there's the greatest Canadian of all who should have been nominated for the greatest Canadian.

We are discussing Canadian musicians. The bolded text is subject to change.
And I love April Wine. Great songwriters, their songs have diversity to them, they never really stuck to the same sound.
Calling something corporate rock to me is like insulting it. I prefer Arena Rock or just Hard Rock.

Bryan Adams never really appealed to me. He's got a couple songs that I will listen to, some are catchy, but I don't think I would ever stick in one of his cds, when there are other (most likely better) cd's around.
I like Jack and Diane, and Summer of 69. I'm fairly sure they are by him, although I always get him confused with a few different artists.

You forgot Neil Young with the Canadian list.
Or was that "the guy with the harmonica"
Rep Update: I've got 903! I'm almost popular!
Yea, that's him. Bryan Adams that is.
And I'm pretty sure that was Neil Young.

Ah, m'kay.
Speaking of Neil Young, I got "Shakey" a biography of him.
Should I return it or is it any good?

How in the world could anyone refer to Neil Young as 'the guy with the harmonica'??
That's like saying Paul Mcartney is 'the guy with the bass.' Theres no way to tell who you are talking about.
But yea, Neil Young is probably my favourite Canadian artist.
edit- and quickly read the bio to see if it's good, then return it if it's bad. It's a win win situation, but you better have a lot of time on your hands.
Pfft. no. Tom Cochrane plays a mean harmonica, I meant him. I just didn't want to speak god's name because the man you are all reffering to is indeed god.
