Those albums have nothing to do with American Beauty, and I just think American Beauty all sounds the same except for a couple songs.

Do you think that there is enough classic rock to last someone a lifetime? By this I mean is there enough classic rock music so that somebody could be very much into music their whole life and only listen to classic rock and not be bored?

I think so. When people think of classic rock they basically only scrape the surface of all the classic rock bands, because we only hear the best ones on the radio and stuff. There are way more classic rock bands than most people know of. It's like thirty years from now people will think the 90's only had Nirvana and the Spice Girls.
K I'm posting a link to a site I stumbled across. It's basically just a few guys saying their opinions on everything, and this one guy is extremely stupid.
I warn you guys! There is a lot of Jerry Garcia/Grateful Dead/hippy bashing in this article...if you think you might become too overwhelmed with rage, don't click the link. http://www.crazyass13.com/featured/jerrybear.html We may complain about the n00bs that come into our thread, but at least we don't get many people like this.

There's a good 500 great classic rock bands and all of them have lots of albums so yes.
Although it would be kind of stupid to just listen to classic rock because other types of music can be good too.

That's true. Even though there are a countless number of classic rock bands, I find one of the greatest things about classic rock, is that you don't get bored of it. I could listen to the same album for a week straight and I wouldn't get sick of it.

A few pages back, someone asked why we don't talk about Rory Gallagher. I replied that we've talked about him before, and he's a good guitarist. I was looking through my rep, and someone put this comment on that post - "yea your cool because u have no life and all you do is post on forums"
Who the hell was that! It better not be anyone who comes in here regularly! Step forward you swine! Did anyone get similiar comments made on theirs? Why was I singled out?
And I think Abbey Road might have to be my favourite album now (besides DSOTM) What are everyone elses favourite songs off this album? I love em all, but You Never Give Me Your Money and Oh Darling! are probably my favourites.
edit- and does anyone know what they are saying in Spanish (or whatever it is) during Sun King.
There was this guy a littlw while ago that gave Badmoon neg rep saying something bad about The Dead in the comment, and he was the same guy who negged me and called me a hippy fag. I guess it could be the same guy.
Abbey Road is definitely one of my favorite albums. I don't think I could pick a favorite song off it, I mean Come Together, Something, Oh! Darling, I Want You (She's So Heavy), so many greats.

I think it would be better to ask if anyone here dislikes Abbey Road, and why.
I honestly think Abbey Road is as close to perfect as any album has ever been, it just has plain great songs on it. It doesn't need a big grand theme, crazy effects or anything like that, the songs have little room for improvement.
edit- And thanks i am Jimmy Page. Wouldn't it be odd if you really were Jimmy Page and none of us took your name seriously enough to ask if you were really him. I often think about that.
I wish I was Jimmy Page :p.
And I dunno, I like Abbey Road a lot, but it's certainly NOT the Beatles best.
What is..eh..it's sooooo close.
Sgt. Peppers ~VS~ the White Album.
I'd say White Album, 2 discs = more value.
That's just my reasoning though :)
thickasabrick
01-25-2005, 12:18 PM
I've never listened to the entire White Album start to finish, so I can't make a good judgment on that. But I've listened to Sgt Peppers quite a lot, and I think it's great, although a little muddy at times. I really like the basslines that the Beatles started using after they matured ('66 and on).
I actually don't like The White Album.
/flees
Macca started coming into his own on Sgt. Peppers, I feel.
The bass line to I Want You(She's So Heavy) is wonderful, I think it's one of Paul's best bass performances.

Awesome. Another question about songwriting...where it gives the songwriting credits on the album, does that mean music and words? Because for Dark Side of the Moon most of the songs have two or more people credited as songwriters, and then another spot on the album says All Lyrics by Roger Waters. Did Lennon and Mcartney write both the music and words together? Or how did that work?
I think when it gives names by the song like that it's music because on HTWWW on some songs it has all four names, and Bonham and JPJ never wrote lyrics to my knowledge. As far as The Beatles I honestly have no idea how that worked.
Where the hell are The Beatles fanboys?

Yea I have to work on the singing a little, some of the higher parts are kinda tough, and I also wanted to pick a song that people would know, but not one that's been massively mainstreamed (like some Zeppelin).

I might be able to record it or something, but I've been working on the solo with my teacher for about 3 weeks now, and he wanted it to match the cd exactly, like to the point where you wouldn't be able to hear that there were 2 guitars (me and the cd) playing. Doing that is usually pretty tough. Whenever I play live, I just improvise a similiar solo to the one in the song, there's usually parts of melody you can match up, and certain notes and licks are easy to mimic so it doesn't sound much different, especially to non-guitar players...except when I play Purple Haze live. I find the only way it sounds right is how Hendrix plays it.

That's very funny being that the Grateful Dead not only played several genres, but they also were one of the earliest Psychedelic bands, and brought Rock improvisation to new levels.
Listen to "That's it for the Other One" or "Weather Report Suite" and then tell me they're bland.
I don't find all of The Stooges work to be bland, but a large percentage bores me. Their debut is highly overrated and very boring to me. I'll leave it at that.

in their early years, mccatney/lennon wrote more of their songs together. in later years, when tensions started growing, the writing became more seperate. lennon wrote this song. mccartney wrote this one. a day in the life is really the last song they actually both contributed to writing. they kep putting mccartney/lennon in the credits though.
Yeah. It's almost as if they were trying to out-do eachother at times.

My cousin started listening to The Band. :upset:
Here's the story on him: He takes everything I've ever done, and starts doing it. I started guitar, he picked it up a month later. I started listening to Classic Rock, he started copying me. He would've never heard of Zeppelin, Floyd, Cream, The Doors, Yes, or The Who without me. Luckily he's only picked the common CR bands. Basically he's a faggot.
Today he tells me that he bought a greatest hits cd of The Band from Best Buy. He's never heard a song by them. I made the mistake of mentioning The Last Waltz in front of him, and it was over. He would've never found out about them, ever, in his life, if I didn't tell him about that movie. And now he knows. Everyone I ask has never heard of The Band (except for you guys), and now my cousin knows them. My life is over. I am actually enraged right now, seeing red if you will. :upset:
On a side note, I rule his *** at guitar, and I will always have that on him.

Not really sure what you mean. ARe you trying to say hes overrated as a musician? His live stuff will prove hes not. I can play most of the studio versions of his songs, but he just goes crazy live. I'll always bring up Jerry Garcia, being I originally got into the Grateful Dead because of his guitar work on some Garcia & Grisman stuff. This style is tough to nail down; not always the same.
Take "Terrapin Station" for example. That solos featured on that song are outstanding. But he is his best with David Grisman during his later years. His playing is fantastic on albums like Shady Grove.
Brian May is also extremely talented.

I loooove Warren Zevon. His biography was so sad. The doctors told him he had two choices: Live in the hospital to receive cancer treatment and live longer, or go on as if everything was normal and die. He chose the latter, he decided it would be better to spent his time in the studio making one last album for his fans before he died, instead of living in a hospital, although it brought his death a lot sooner. He died right as his album was coming out, a lot of good people played on it too, although the only name that comes to mind is Bruce Springsteen.

My useless 2 cents.
BTW: THere's this one ELO song I want to know the name of. It starts with this weird REvolution 9-like segment, with choirs and stuff singing a bit of hallejulah in there, then it goes into some pretty **** fast acoustic guitar riff. I'm pretty sure most people here know what I'm talking about.
Mr. Blue Sky?
I dunno that description sounds like 20 of their songs, but that's their most popular one fitting the description. ELO rocks. Jeff Lynne = Genius.

Yeah Warren Zevon is pretty amazing, his biography would be VERY interesting.
Sometimes I get this insane craving for Zevon, hah I sprint to my stereo and listen to some Zevon, great lyricist.
Is anyone here a fan of Proto-Punk?
MC5, The Velvet Underground, Patty Smith, Iggy and the Stooges..and the likes?
I personally love it, and quite a lot of it (especially those four) are sorta classic rock..in a way, I guess.
I like The Velvet Underground, but I haven't heard any of the others.

yeah The Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, The Clash, The Ramones are great bands. i use to be into more of the "punk bands" when i was younger, but i grew out of it. those are the only bands that can be considered "punk" or "proto-punk" or whatever that i still respect or like.
Anyone else like the drum solo from In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida? The drummer for the band I'm in learned it which is so cool.

George Thorogood is quite enjoyable, except for fanboys like Bartender who only like Bad To The Bone. :)
How's things, all?
My dad used to play George in the car all the time.

I like it. Pretty much like you said, different from Happy Trails but still good.
I bought the actual studio version of Tommy today, along with the Doors s/t.

As Woodstock said, it's alittle more "poppy" then Happy Trials. The instrumentals are still excellent.
