so anyways, tonight i was listening to Neil Young and Crazy Horse, and i've decided i'm gonna round up some musicians and play Down by the River. if people don't like how long it is, they can kiss my furry white ***

me and Neil have the exact same electric style, in my opinion.

edit - play it for my schools talent show, i forgot to mention that. :)

thats why i stick to my trusty acoustic.

well actually, i like to play clean, and nice and slow and thought out, more like David Gilmour. but if i crank it up, its Neil all the way.

I've never listened to Dylan so I'm not sure if I'd get one without hearing it first. But I did get lots of other cds. I got Pink Floyd - PATGOD, Robin Trower - Bridge of Sighs, and The Band's Self Titled and Music From The Big Pink. My dad told me not to get Live at Pompeii a ton of times, so I think someone else got it for me as a late gift, like my aunt.

I know i'll get crap for this, but I was listenin to the radio the other day, and that band Silvertide came on. I gotta admit, they can pull of the classic rock thing very well without sounding lame like Jet or one of those bands. I actually kinda like them. Not a lot of bands have been able to do this besides them and maybe the Black Crows.

They sound like AC/DC with Chris Robinson on vocals.

They are copying AC/DC full on, not a good thing.

i was talking about good slide guitar songs...you were talking about root canal. i think one relates to classic rock a little more, seeing as i mentioned bands and songs, and you mentioned teeth and freezing gums. i dont mind people/myself getting off topic, but at least make it music related in some way.

and i love U2, they are an amazing band. i was kinda worried they would release their version of St Anger, but How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb has some good songs to offer. Even if they aren't as catchy as some of their earler songs, the musicianship is still there.

While watching The Last Waltz, I noticed Neil Young had something hangin out of his nose. I figured it was just boogers or something, but when I was reading about the movie on another site, I realized it was something else. Cocaine! Just a little though, cause the huge chunk he really had there was edited out.

We've already covered this. kthxbye

Yet another fan on a message board had this to say about "Miracle Drug:"

I think that Bono turns pop culture upside down with the line "I've had enough of romantic love."

Wow, how profound. Look out pop-culture! Bono has had enough of "romantic love." Here comes Bono and his idiotic fans to make ambiguous jabs at you.

And that's pretty funny right there.

RNR
12-28-2004, 06:42 PM
That would be funny, if it just wasn't so radically wrong. Saying U2 released some of the worst songs of last year is moronic, and it's not even put in a funny way. But yeah...U2's stuff in the 1980s was great, as was Achtung Baby, then they were pretty crap, up till ATYCLB, and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb is their best album in ages. And The Edge is someone who's underrated by a lot of people out there.

Very true. I thought it was a great album.

Okay here, my first post reguarding the subject was basically a hello. Now we know your one to make his presence recongized. Then someone ask me a question or statement needing an answer/response. Now, I'm not one to snub someone off. I answer questions. So, to live up to your past statement, we will all have to stop telling off a n00b replying to the first post, we can not state our presence, or acknowledge when one of us has a birthday, ect.

Miracle Drug and Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own are good tracks off How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. The Edge playing his characteristic guitar technique to good effect, soft and relaxing to listen to :thumb: . Vertigo in my opinion is a very average song from U2 but the album is solid. Not a stand out album but not crap, they have never really released a crap record. Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby are probably the best, but I like all of their albums. The Slane Castle DVD is also good, Bono puts so much emotion into his singing and stage presence and truly is himself when he is on stage and his lyrics are straight to the point, quite a charismatic stage man.

Who likes We're Going Wrong? These are the kind of songs I love cause Clapton's guitar sounds so eerie. This might be one of my favorite Cream songs, next to every other one of their songs. Its so calming.

I for one love "We're Going Wrong".

And personally, I can't stand Skynyrd. They're basically a generic Southern rock band who got famous off of a nine-minute power ballad, a feud with Neil Young, and a plane crash.

I don't really like Cream's first album to tell you the truth, It wasn't really..as strong (?) as Disralie Gears, which, for me, is one of the most iconic albums of all time.
We're going wrong (or world of pain) is the best song off it.

You can't blame them cause some of their members got killed in a plane crash, I'm sure if they had it their way, they wouldn't have died in a plane crash, I can't see how you're trying to say they're 'cashing in' on the tragedy, it's something that happened that also happened to bring a bit of publicity to the band, be it negative publicity or positive, it's all publicity, and something that they could not help..

Any Publicity Is good publicity
Their's just happened to be a horrific tragedy, of course something like that is going to bring publicity to a band, who, let's be realistic, needed it, they never had the (deserved in my opinion) publicty that other bands, like Led Zeppelin or The Who had.

There was no feud between Skynyrd and Young it was just semi-playful words, they were fans of each other....even performed together a couple times.

Skynyrd's first two albums are great, Ronnie VanZant is underrated as a writer.
Tragedy really didn't make them that much more famous it just killed two of the best members.

And some say Young > Skynyrd...not really comparable, Neil Young's song about the South was BS if I was Skynyrd I would've bashed him non-playfully. That crazy Canuck couldn't speak from experience. I prefer VanZant's writing to Young's although Young has some good ones. And semi-off topic, is Young alive :o I'm not into him much/don't know jack****e about him.

Gilmour also pretty much taught Barrett guitar, which has always struck me as pretty odd, considering the order in which they were in the band...

i'm a few pages late, but that's really interesting. where did you read that? that site/book must know something i don't, im curious now.

gilmours guitar playing always seemed a little more, whats the word, educated maybe? how long did the two know eachother for? i thought Gilmour was just found when they needed to replace barret, i didn't know he had an existing relationship with the band.

thickasabrick
12-29-2004, 05:59 PM
i'm a big fan of both Skynyrd and Young, but i find a lot of Skynyrds songs are a little more focused on the guitar playing, not the words. don't get me wrong, Van Zandt could write song great songs, my favourite might be Simple Man, but i dont think he was quite as good as Young.

I think Skynyrd was a great band, but if you compare Van Zandt himself against Young, it's not much of a contenst. Neil just has so many more dimensions, in my opinion.

jpj
12-29-2004, 06:00 PM
Glmour and Barrett were friends for a good bit. I believe they went to the same college too where they played together a lot, and I'm pretty sure Gilmour said in an interview that he was always a little more talented than Barrett.

I read than in a guitar magazine from like 1994 that was all about Floyd.

And I think Young's songwriting abilities were much greater than Van Zandt's.

thickasabrick
12-29-2004, 06:03 PM
that's pretty cool, I think Gilmour was always the better guitarist, Barrets mind was just too far out there to focus in on the guitar like Gilmour did.

if i hear one more person use the term "costume malfunction" im gonna snap, it's the new "is that your final answer?"

Ringo has good solo albums? i have two of his, one has something to do with Flowers, and im not sure about the other one. i haven't listened to them though. I'd better put them on my to do list for when i get back.

I never heard solo Ringo, or any drummers solo work, it is really any good?

what does modern mean?

i like Coldplay, and if Maroon 5 come on the radio i wont change it, but i really don't hear a lot of newer stuff. i'm kind of cut off from the modern world.

What are some good songs by Robert Johnson? Dylan went on and on about him in his book, so i'm very curious. I've heard a few songs here and there, but i dont recall any of them really.

But seriously, Creedance glad you like my title, good to see you have stars cause I still need to spread it before repping you.

Also Tales of Brave Ulysses is a great song.

.
I couldn't really pick a favourite, I'll produce a list shall I
AC/DC - I have all their albums bought, I like them especially before 1980, as most people do. I am a vocalist in a band and i like charismatic vocalists such as Bon Scott.
Cream - Ginger Baker, Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce = class, Disraeli Gears probably my favourite album and Tales of Brave Ulysses, fantastic track
Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Paul McCartney and Wings, The Byrds, The Who, Blind Faith, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, The Kinks, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix
They would have to be my favourite classic rock bands, I also like metal, bit of cool jazz, funk, alternative rock and indie
