No, but it was a list that I put away awhile ago, and then randomly found on my kitchen table. I put it together to make the assumption that someone bought some of them for me. I could be wrong though.
Seems logical.

In about two hours on PBS, there's going to be highlights of the Crossroads Guitar Festival, hosted none other than Eric Clapton, who was mentioned on the first page of this thread. Should rockz0rz all our collective sockz0rz.

That looks awesome. I might watch. I do hate PBS though.

thickasabrick

i'm an acoustic guy, mainly bluegrass though. but it's always fun to play along with some folk/classic rock.

today i actually decided to pick up my electric (dust it off) and learn Time by Pink Floyd. It's such an emotional solo i just wanna cream my pants, so i just had to learn it. Then i got sidetracked with a song i was writing on my organ so i never learned the end of the solo.

edit- i don't actually play a lot of real songs, except bluegrass songs. i prefer writing my own songs or just improvising.

guitrguy
12-23-2004, 12:57 AM
Same here, I usually don't play my electric because my amp sucks (MG30DFX). MY acoustic has a good enough tone that I actually prefer it to my electric.

hm ok.

it's actually more umm..whats the word...i don't wanna say bluegrassy because it isn't like that. but close. most of their other songs had more of a rock or blues feel than this one, plus a few of their more folkish songs. this one is different than those. i can't find a good way to describe it.

but it's got some entertaining lyrics.

"i took her love at seventeen, a little late these days it seems"

Metallica, Twisted Sister, Def leppard, Quiet Riot, GnR, Bon Jovi (i know hes wega hair, but livin on a prayer is catchy), Steve Miller Band, Floyd, AC DC, Hendrix, some Motley Crue. Even though he's not rock, Bob Marley.

I love Skynyrd.

I think they could've been huge, Ronnie VanZant was friggin' amazing.

And Neil Young was a fan of Skynyrd and vice versa.
Skynyrd has more hits then you think too, I think they were just about to get big when the crash happened :(
And I'm a huge Skynyrd fan and to be honest I hardly like Freebird in fact I don't like it much at all. I like the fact it's dedicated to Duane Allman though.

I know this is a classic rock thread and whatnot, but I just thought I'd like to point out, you should be more open minded before blasting an entire genre. If some huge rap fan said to you "man, Classic Rock is a bunch of whiney talentless hacks, they all suck!" you'd be pretty pissed, wouldn't you? Well, its a two way street. And saying "well, I'm right and they're wrong" makes you look like a five year old. There are some unbelievably talented rappers. Are they the most talented musicians? Maybe not. But the lyrics can be incredible, the music they write can be incredible. Does gangster rap tend to be repetitive and mindless? Sure, I'll agree that a lot of it is. But some rap is very good. With that in mind...

I'm starting to get really into The Who. I have Who Are You, My generation, and Tommy. Any suggestions on a good album I should look to pick up?

That movie has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. Have that, but not the movie yet (also very good).

I'm starting to become convinced that The Band are one of the greatest bands ever. They're all very talented, write really good music, and it seems that they'd be very amusing to watch play. Hey, guess what, *******! I'm breaking my ban to own you!

First of all, if you say you like Dark Side Of The Moon, than you basicly would like all of Pink Floyd. And if you like Pink Floyd, there are dozens of great prog bands which are classic rock that you would like.

When you say that Led Zeppelin will never change, that's completely stupid. They broke up SO OBVIOUSLY THEY CAN'T MAKE NEW SONGS IF THEY BROKE UP, *******. Secondly, if you listen to their first 2 studio albums and then listen to everything from Houses Of The Holy onwards, you will see a big change in their sound. Guess what, their sound did change! It's extremely diverse. So what if Led Zeppelin isn't coming out with any new music? That's why some nice people invented remastering so we can listen to their amazing music any time we want!

Ever think that maybe those people that you talked to are classic rock posers? They listen to maybe 2 songs and than wear the shirts? We in this thread are not like that. There are many people who are not like that, and it's very stupid to judge an entire period of time in music by a few idiots, who like purely hard rock classic rock. Classic rock is by no means represented by posers who wear band shirts of mainstream bands just to look cool. It's represented by this thread.

I doubt you've even heard 5 classic rock bands. You're making a judgement on something that you know nothing about, ya know what that's called, dumb****? It's called prejudice and that makes you a moronic ******* who needs to ask for their account on here to get deleted before you post some more.

I have read through most of this thread, heh which took a while, but I noticed you guys don't talk much about The Rolling Stones...I guess no one here is too interested in them or maybe you are and its implied that you guys are all big fans. I myself am not into them much, I have one of their greatest hits Cds which is good enough for me since I'm not too heavily into them.

i have a lot of their later albums for some reason. Some Girls, Made in the Shade, Tatoo You, **** a few more but i can never remember them, and also the 40 licks cd. i want some of their sixties stuff but i can't find any around.

and i am a big fan. i wonder if the band would have been different if Brian Jones hadn't died. Because at one point of time he was their main songwriter/creative guy, but near the end of his life he didn't really do much. i wonder if he ever woulda made a come-back and started writing great songs again.

i think they wrote some amazing songs, but over the decades their great songs kinda get forgotten or not noticed in the sea of their mediocre songs.

i really like:

Can't Always Get What You Want
Sympathy For the Devil
Jumpin Jack Flash
Paint It Black
Gimme Shelter
actually i just realized how long this list could go on for so i will stop.

I enjoy a few Rolling Stones songs, but they're not my favorite band in the world. Kinda plain.

After heavy analysis of my dad's music collection, I've decided he like Jeff Beck, Santana, Yes, CSNY, Frank Zappa, SRV, and Hendrix the most. He has a shitload of other music, though. These artists just come up the most.

i think led zeppelin is the best band, stairway to heaven is the best song that has ever been written, but i hate those kids that just listen to classic rock just cuz they think theyre coool....like ac/dc and metallica are the biggest in my school rite now, i can admit i liked acdc at one point, but i've been listening to the old stuff like foreigner, styx, the beatles, and many many others, its good that the other people are gettin' into great music but getting shirts and talking about it all the time and knowing nothing about it, is annoying

1. Stairway To Heaven is not the greatest song ever written.
2. Metallica is not Classic Rock.
3. Foreigner and Styx are poison to human ears.
4. Punctuation is the greatest thing ever, don't take it for granted.

i was like you at one point of time. some day you will grow to realize Stairway isn't as wonderful as you once thought. sure it's a great song, but you can't say it's the best that has ever been written. i'm not a fan of styx, but foreigner is decent.

You guys are starting to get a little off topic ... I thought this was supposed to be a classic rock forum ... correct me if I'm wrong .... Personally I listen to non-stop metal but I grew up on Beatles and Steve Miller Band along with The Who, The Doors, Rush and Heart. Im a drummer in a metal band now but if it hadnt been for those bands I would have never picked up a drumstick and started making my own music.

Oh, and Merry Christmas to everyone ... Have a good one
