yes classic rock is much better than todays "nu rock" as it is called, most of these new bands r mixers etc.
there r like 7 guitarists playing a string each....cant even make a decent solo up....

ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?
This is now a Classic Rock Discussion thread!
You know what? I totally agree with you man. Zeppelin, Beatles, Doors, And Rush are all amazing bands that influenced today's music. Did you notice that most of today's "rock" bands sound similar to the good old bands(or at least try to) I got Rush's album The Spirit Of Radio. It is The Greatest hits Album and it amazing listening. Anyone like Rush?

Indeed, but as for rock and roll, the scene is pretty weak. Blues, jam, metal and other genres are doing well, but hard rock bands really aren't.

Rush is awesome. Hehe, you call it ""rock"" too. Because today's rock music is bland un influenced rock and nothing close to as good as the blues and folk influenced rock of the 60s and 70s. Or even the hard rock sound of the 80s. It's just bland 3 chord music.

Nothing wrong with three chord music. Look at the Beatles, you could have one chord like Tomorrow Never Knows and it could still be a good song.

nothing wrong with three chord rock. it worked with the beatles for the first half of the sixties. never stopped working for the stones and ac/dc.
as long as you think of creative ways to use those three chords.
i am a huge fan of ELP. their album Trilogy is my favourite. Man those keys are simply amazing, definitely not far behind hendrix experience and cream for best trio. my favourite song is The Endless Enigma, but i can't stand listening to it broken up into parts, i like it all in one.

Well, mainstream rock has always been bad (for the most part, at least).
That's pretty much the reason i'm posting here. I like rock music but it started the get really crappy for the most part right around the mid 80s.
I can't be expected to go find every single band that's not in the mainstream. Though badmoon's jam list has helped.

Well, no, what I'm saying is, mainstream rock has almost always been lousy. The bands that got the most airplay in the 70's were generic, anemic arena-rock bands.
You can always ask the alt/indie forum about good current music. Even if they may try to tell you that Coheed and Cambria and The Mars Volta are good.

To catch up if anyonee says anything bad about Steve Miller I will eat their children.

Nah. Okay lets take a look at the album. It starts with tell all the people and touch me which are two not completely dissimilar songs. these songs are doors songs, they sound like some of the doors more groovin songs, except they have replaced alot of the keyboard groovin has been replaced with brass instruments.
Then in the middle there's some sort of slide guitar, jazzish drums and slightly darker vocals and keyboards, but that's not uncommon to the doors.
Then we've got the stuff where the music just changes completely in a couple of the songs at the end. Although this is not a completely common thing in doors music it certainly helped make the soft parade and is not a completely undoorsy thing to do.
And you've got wishful sinful which is an undoubtedly, indebatebly doors song, and a great one at that.

Tr00f but Jim's songwritting was weaker than usaul (IMO) that is uncommon. My point was that instrumental is not the Doors style. It was a very good album but again it just wasn't The Doors.

I get to borrow my parent's stuff. But it's still theirs. I borrow some of their Neil Young and Bob Dylan stuff.
That's the Barrett era compilation, right? I like a lot of stuff he did, although I think he's overhyped a bit, because of all the mystique around him.
The albums gold, nothing bad on it.
And to Rock_not_roll,

ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?
This is now a Classic Rock Discussion thread!
Yeah there's a lot of kids getting into classic rock in my school, like myself, but I think the real revival is happening on the jam band scene, it's amazing right now and I want to experience every part of it because I think someday my kids will be asking me if I liked bands like Phish, Widespread Panic, Gov't Mule, Addison Groove Project, DMB, etc. However the classic rock revival is nowhere near as strong as the "emo" craze going around...don't get me started on that :D

That's actually a very good way to describe it, and I dont really listen to his solo career that much for that very reason.
Some Harrison definetly.
"All things must pass" is a classic for all time. And a great "Jam" finish.
Does Clapton's solo career irritate anyone else?
He just kind of put it on autopilot and floated through it...there's no passion.
Yea, his solo career leaves a lot to ask for. Whenever a Cream song comes on he says "Yep, this was before Clapton turned gay."
I always thought that was funny.

After reading like 15 pages the only thing I feel like replying to is that how Schyma000 out Morrison Hotel as their fifth best album.
This leaves me in bitter outrage ----
Well it didn't have as many good songs as the others did. Still I love though. I love all Doors albums!

Im trying to get All Things Must pass.
If you like ATMP then I suggest the 1979 self title :thumb:
And yeah Clapton's 80's solo career was sub-par...I like his CD chronicles, he's older but the songs are still good, but I'm not sure what year most of those songs are from.

What about the 22 years between the time Derek and the Dominos broke up and when his son died? All tired, mediocre blues-rock.

Yeah, a best of album might be good for clapton. He had about enough great songs for a one disc.

Yeah, it's great and all, but I really miss the rich organs that Highway 61 Revisited had :upset:

I don't like any of the songs on that album up to "Hard Days Night"
Were they started writing about stuff other than 'wanting to hold someones hand# but being scared to ask,
looking back on it, those songs were pretty gay.
don't be ignorant young man! those are still top notch pop songs! the lyrics may be simple, but the melodies were astonishing.
i used to feel the same away about the beatles as you did. i found the early pop stuff to be lame and the old stuff to be weird. but then i realized how delightful their early stuff was, and eventually i was turned on to their older stuff. even now, i prefer the latter material, and i think i always will.
but i still love the early stuff! it's almost like a different band. like i said before, their early stuff is still top notch!

The thing that annoyed me the most about Clapton's solo career was that he left the Yardbirds because they were getting "Too Poppy", but then he went on to release I Shot the Sheriff and other things like that.
Oh, I finally got The Who Sings My Generation on CD.
