They're not Classic Rock though. Especially String Cheese, they're Prog-Bluegrass with some Funk-Lation :p. And moe., is just different. :)

Yeah, their album "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake" [Small Faces] has a pretty kickass title track, not to mention overall, style and technique...in my opinion, Small Faces are one of the better Mod-pop bands to come out of the UK.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ALSO, I was wondering what anyone thinks of Tom Waits' aproach to music...I think his fusion of 40's lounge jazz with rock-esque elements in fascinating. If you havent heard of him, definitely try his stuff out :thumb: :naughty:

Classic rock is by far the best kind of music.

Why did I have to be born in the late 80s? :upset: I'll never get to see Zeppelin in concert.
I feel your pain. :upset: :upset: I LOVE Led Zeppelin, and I, too, was born in the late 80s. The weird thing is neither of my parents are Zep fans. I like some modern rock too, but probably not as much as the classic bands.

Favorite classic bands:
Led Zeppelin
The Who
Scorpions
The Beatles
AC/DC
Metallica
Iron Maiden
Black Sabbath
Aerosmith
Motley Crue
Elvis Presley

man we've had a bunch of new members in here since i came on yesterday...

poundcake...if you plan on visiting this site regularly, i suggest you don't make two posts saying the exact same thing. especially about van halen.

yesterday me and my guitar teacher were playing some bluegrass songs, and he was playing harmony. i told him i started listening to the grateful dead and i noticed they do a lot of harmony with some good bluegrass roots, and he told me he used to be the hugest deadhead. i knew he was a fan of bluegrass and folk,as well as some blues, but i didn't know he liked the dead. he said he saw a few of their shows in the early seventies and they were his favourite live band.

and addicted2myguitar: i wouldn't really consider Metallica classic rock, i dont care if you are a fan of theirs, but this isnt the right thread to discuss them. motley crue is pushing the limit as well.

My teacher brought that up today, and then this little bitch kid started talking about his "knowledge" of classic music. What it boiled down to was that he "hates when people call Twisted Sister one hit wonders", he's so excited that Motely Crue is getting back together, he hates Pink Floyd and "acid rock" (which I don't really consider them anyways), and he thinks Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and John Lennon are all overrated. I was so enraged I could not concentrate on class for the rest of the hour. I hope I see him in the parking lot after school. I really want to hit him with a bat.

i hate getting in arguments over music at school. it isn't bad on the internet, because you can show links to sites to show your facts, but if the internet/any resources arent handy, they can pass off all kinds of **** as facts.

i may have mentioned this before, but one time we were discussing Stairway to Heaven in english, and one kid said "didn't van halen write stairway?" and i kinda half flipped out on him. and then the teacher said "calm down jeff! led zeppelin didn't write it anyway...it was the other guy."

damn straight. i think the choices up there sucked though. even the crappiest metal song could make it to the top ten just because all the metalheads would rather vote for it than a good rock song.
everyones afraid to vote for stairway because they will be called a noob, or a fanboy or something.

whats the deal with Supertramp?

they seemed to be like a pop band who wrote unbeleivably great songs, and were great musicians. i have a few of their albums, my favourite is probably crime of the century, or breakfast in america. i realize calling them a pop band may have been a little pompous, but its true...if you listen to their albums, they had way more pop songs than rock songs. yet they were still a huge band in the seventies rock scene.

i think they are a great band. anyone else like them? anyone totally disagree with what i said?

teles are great guitars, and yes they are used a lot in country.

so im mad at my record store...they totally overprice all the big name artists, they have like 25 horrible condition beatles records for 50 bucks each, same with Dylan records. luckily they were selling Beach Boys and Grateful Dead records for surprisingly cheap, so i got a Beach Boys greatest hits (i wanted pet sounds but they didn't have it) and Workingmans Dead (no american beauty) for about 20 bucks.

We should start an album trading cycle.

We will all trade through AIM (all must up date their versions), and we'll pass it off one by one. For instance, I'll pass it to RocknotRoll, and then he'll pass it to Lunch, and then he'll pass it to someone else.

And... I got grounded. Have a C-Minus in English :upset:

due to the recent success of our school's performance of Guys and Dolls, our Rememberance Day concert, and our Choir concerts...some teachers have asked me if i wanted to perform anything else for the school. I was thinking it would be cool to make a "concert for peace", and the money could go to some sort of charity. I know a lot of good protest and war type songs, and our school is filled with good musicians. i think it would be a good idea, im sure the local news guy wouldn't mind coming down, he likes doing stuff like this.

Does anyone think this sounds like a good idea? I could get up there and play a few Dylan/any good protest songs, and get a few friends to play some songs too. It could be like a Woodstock for my city.

That's my point. I see the Waters used the Animal Farm concept to portray his view of British society, but I'm arguing this other guy that Animal Farm is the base idea behind it.

Then again, Waters also rips into former English conservative Mary Whitehouse in "Pigs (Three Different Ones)", so maybe that's not the best example.

What do you mean "in a way"? The songs kind of talk about each animal in animal farm (the sheeps being followers, pigs, greedy type guys, dogs do the work for the pigs) but it also relates to british society as well, Pigs are business men, Dogs are factory workers and sheep are suck ups to the business men.

I don't really see that concept at all. Factory workers? I don't think so.

The point I'm making is that Animal Farm is the base concept for the album, whether or not Waters uses it to relate to his society or not.

Your friend is right too though. Animal farm was just a farce on the Russian revolution so in a way the songs and the russian revolution are connected.

Actually it's about pre-revolutionary russia. Not britan. Although it's relitively the same.

I guess I agree even though I can't really understand what you just said. Animal Farm is based on Communist Russia, and Animals uses the concept of the Animal Farm idea an applies to Britain in the time period, somewhat.

Dylan: I am a big Bob Dylan fan. I have a dozen Dylan albums (which may not sound like much compared the amount of material other Dylan fans have, but stil...)
CCR: I have only heard a few songs, but I have liked those songs
Eric Clapton: I loved Cream, Blind Faith, the Bluesbreakers, and Derek and the Dominos, but I found his solo career to be fairly mediocre
Hendrix: I am a big Hendrix fan too

I only have the material he did in his prime ("Freewheelin'", "The Times They Are A-Changin'" "Bringing it all Back Home", "Highway 61", "Blonde on Blonde", "John Wesley Harding", "Nashville Skyline", "Desire") the Live 1964, Live 1966 and Live 1975 albums, and "Time Out Of Mind". I'm having trouble finding most of the other stuff he's done.

I've also found myself preferring the version of "Like a Rolling Stone" on the Live 1966 album to the one on "Highway 61"...it's bigger, louder, and rawer live.

EDIT: Forgot "Blood on the Tracks", which would mean that I have a baker's dozen Dylan albums.

Creedence Clearwater
12-11-2004, 01:57 AM
Yeah my afv album would be a toss up between Another Side of Bob Dylan and Highway 61 revisited. it interesting that you didn't mention Blood on the Tracks, was that an oversite or what. I actually do not own the 1964, only the 1966, but I have enough bootlegs to demonstrate what he was on about.

I like a lot of different music, so questions like that are tough...I can't have one favorite album. I'd say that my ten favorite albums are Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation, Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millons to Hold Us Back, The Velvet Underground's The Velvet Underground & Nico, Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde, Miles Davis' Bitches Brew, The Who's Who's Next, Funkadelic's Maggot Brain, Jimi Hendrix's Are You Experienced?, The White Album, and Bob Marley's Catch a Fire.

For era, I'd have to say the 70's. Not for Zeppelin and Pink Floyd...there were many records made in that decade that eclipsed Floyd's and Zeppelin's work. Genre is hard to choose, and I don't know what "supporting musicians" are.

yeah, I love VU&N, the who and hendrix is always cool. Sorry i used the term support musicians out of context. As for a genre, I loved blues based material and although attempting to define the music you like into an era, I will go with mid 60's for obvious reasons.
