The rumor says it was about Paul McCartney's death on, I think, November 6, 1966 in a car accident. The car accident also was rumored to be the first lines of A Day In The Life.

God, I wish I knew some people who liked proper old rock music. I know like 2 people. Led Zeppelin, Cream, Hendrix, Clapton, Van Halen, Beatles, The Who, Rolling Stones, Queen, all great.
Stop talking.
And can anyone not stand "Behind Blue Eyes" by The Who? It never clicked with me...every time I listen to Who's Next I find myself skipping it because it's so whiny and self-absorbed. I can't believe so many talk about it when a gem like "My Wife" (Maybe I'm the only one who loves that song...) flies under the radar completely.
That's weird.
I heard that there was a little bit on one of the beatle's album covers that shows paul dying or something. Which one is that? (if it's true at all).
Stop talking.

Lennon does say the Walrus was Paul. The walrus is a symbol of death in Sweden.

White Album: in the pictures on the inside cover, there is an ugly lifeless head floating in water
Abbey Road: Paul is out of step with the others, there's a hurse and cop car in the background, a VW Beetle's license plate says LMW (Linda My Widow)

Revolution number 9 backwards sounds like he is saying turn me on deadman.
At the end of Strawberry fields forever people thought he was saying i buried Paul when he was actually saying Cranberry Sauce
Paul is in a "coffin" on the Yesterday and Today cover
Paul head touches without you on back of Sgt. Pepper and George is pointing at Wednesday Morning at 5 o'clock, the time that paul died
Billy Shears is supposed to be Bill's here meaning William "Billy" Campbell, Paul's replacement
He blew his mind out in a car from A day in the life
but the funniest one i think is when John says "the walrus was paul" in Glass Onion, people sayed that awalrus was a symbol of death in some scandinavian culture, which is of course totally false.

I don't think its wrong, but I think its very close-minded to do so. There are many other forms of good music, and to not even give it a chance because it isn't classic rock is wrong. If you listen to it first, and decided you're stickin with classic rock, that's your opinion.
Also, good review Schyma, and I noticed how crazy Steve Howe was looking when I watched this Yesspeak dvd we have. Its a good thing he can still own at guitar. And I think Keith Richards looks more dead. Steve Howe just looks old.

I don't think it's wrong either. After all, classic rock is better than current rock. Not saying current rock does suck. But classic rock definintely has more style and than current rock. I can tell you that.
there a number of modern rock bands that come to mind, whom i would consider better than most classic rock. granted, there are some bands (allman brothers, led zeppelin, grateful dead, among countless others) who have a special place in rock history, but this whole obsession with classic rock reeks of a lack of perspective and objectiveness in observing music. i love moby grape as much as anyone else here, but i also recognize that modern rock is not inherently without "style".
oh, and by modern rock, i'm referring to bands that play actual music, as opposed to the packaged garbage that most people listen to.

Well I would consider both of those very similar to rock, depending the kind of stuff you listen to. If you listen to classic rock and rock along with Metallica(metal) and SRV(blues), I would hardly say you have a broad musical taste.

actually i dont think Robert Johnson(blues) is close to Classic or current rock...and i dont really listen to metal i was just using it as an example. i listen to bluegrass mostly.
but yes...i suppose SRV and Metallica aren't straying far from rock.

they never made it close to matching the success of their first album, but it is truly a masterpiece. their were amazing songwriters and tom scholz was a wizard in the studio. my favourite song is peace of mind. i taught myself how so sing high like them, now i have no problem overtaking robert plants vocals.

30 minutes isn't too bad for a drum solo, provided it is well written and played. i've watched bonhams moby dick on the live dvd a few times and its fairly long.
max roach has played entired concerts of just drum solos, you just have to be creative. i have found myself humming some of his drum solos, he can make melodies on drums just as good as a guitarist can.

as i said about the drum solo, 15 to 30 minute songs arent bad, i actually enjoy them because you can actually get into them as if they were a movie or something. i can't stand when a band has an amazing song, but its only like two minutes long. such as "good vibrations" i could listen to that song if it was an hour long, unfortuately it isn't. Thick As A Brick, the Jethro Tull album is considered one long song. its about 40 some minutes i think but i could be wrong. it has different parts to it that could be classified as songs or "movements," but the whole album is just considered one song. its awesome. pink floyd also wrote song really good epic songs, same with Emerson Lake and Palmer and Iron Butterfly.

sweet leaf is a killer song. my favourite would have to be Hand of Doom, or just about anything from their paranoid album. NIB is also a good one. i love early sabbath, it reminds me of a heavier version of the hendrix experience, how the bass is so funky, the drums are so free, and of course the guitar is simply amazing.

My Dad runs a Ford Car dealership in this small town called Wilmington in Illinois of course. And because he runs that Ford dealership, he gets to go to all of the big Ford meetings. The meetings are usually held in Las Vegas. Each of the meetings are 100% top secret of course, so only my mother can come with him (not my brother and I). And each meeting the owner of Ford (Who my Dad knows) gets a couple of big acts to perform for his workers. Last time he got Jerry Seinfield and The Eagles. My parents got front row center seats. They got a bunch of free Eagles crap. They sad it was insane, andsaid I would have liked it :(

my favourite doors album is Strange Days. it truly captures the end of the happy go lucky pscychadelic era...the vietnam war is raging, the manson murders, the stabbings at the Stones concert is nearing (truly the end of the psychadelic era). People are realizing the world isn't as wonderful as they thought, and the doors capture that moment perfectly. its really a depressing album, but it is very well written and it could almost be considered a concept album, although the concepts are very subtle.
their first album was more just a collection of songs that they were playing in clubs at the time, they didn't relate to eachother in anyway. They were great songs, but they were basically just a bunch of singles put together. Strange Days was written more as an album, and less as a collection of songs.
L.A. Woman also has some great songs if you like the more R&B side of the Doors, it is less pschadelic, but that doesn't make it worse. It still has some of their best songs. Jim Morrison was trying to be more of a singer, and less as a poet most people say, and you can really tell.

i think they should just take away the "classic" in front of classic rock-its the only good stuff out there. when the new bands stop being such pretty boys and corporate sell-outs then we'll have to worry about the style of our music....

They sad it was insane, andsaid I would have liked it :(
To summarize - Badmoon's dad's work, and eagles.
My dad's a lawyer, so whenever he goes on business trips it's to sue someone for everything they're worth.

Clapton isn't anywhere close to the world's best guitarist. But if you've heard his unplugged album you'd know that he's one of the best music-writer type guys.
Umm, I need to build my vocabulary :(
Kinda late, but...
I never said he was the greatest, I'm just saying that what he did wouldn't have been the same if someone else was there instead of him. He's my favourite guitarist, but that doesn't make him the best ever.

my favourite doors album is Strange Days. it truly captures the end of the happy go lucky pscychadelic era...the vietnam war is raging, the manson murders, the stabbings at the Stones concert is nearing (truly the end of the psychadelic era).
YES! I was freakin out because nobody had mentioned Strange Days. I think that's my favorite album. People Are Strange is such a cool song. And I've also noticed how their first album's songs, while all great, don't relate to each other in any way. Strange Days seems to go together, and I love it.
Its kinda like Led Zeppelin I. To me, it seems like a very colorful album, all different types of songs that don't really relate to each other, but are still good. It reminds me of a bunch of colors all thrown together.
Led Zeppelin II, on the other hand, has a very brownish color to it (maybe partly based off the cover). The songs are more gritty and bluesy, not very polished over, and the whole thing seems really muddy to me. Because the songs all have these qualities, they fit together better.
So in ending this rant, we now know that:
a) The Doors : Strange Days :: Led Zeppelin I : Led Zeppelin II
AND
b) I like to associate everything with colors. :thumb:

Lol.....so, whats your favorite Floyd album? i'd have to say definately Wish You Were Here. Why? It has the best Floyd songs (Have a Cigar, Welcome to the Machine, Wish You Were Here). The album also has a great sound on the other songs, and the cover of it is pretty crazy.
I also like Dark Side of the Moon (for obvious reasons), and Meddles.....San Tropez is simply amazing.

Probably my favorite three (WYWH, DSOTM, Meddle in that order.) I'm convinced that Wish You Were Here is the greatest album ever produced. Just my opinion.

WYWH is great and so is DSOTM, no clear-cut winner there. Also, no one can resist the power of 'The Wall'......anyway, whats your favorite calssic rock solo?
magicbus
11-26-2004, 01:53 PM
I respect The Wall for its ability to tell the story through every song. Waters probably had trouble keeping it like that.
Favorite solo, probably Since I've Been Lovin You. The whole song is so emotionally powerful, and when solo hits, its just like *CHILLS*.

My favorite has to be the end solo for 'War Pigs' by Black Sabbath, it's about 6:45 into the song.....simply epic.

Voodoo Child has the most recognizable guitar intro ever. As for their solos, they weren't Hendrix's best but they were definitely great.
What about Smoke On The Water? That's pretty recogniazeable. Voodoo Child is a much better song though.
My favorite Pink Floyd album has to be Wish You Were Here.
I mean, cmon! it's Wish You Were Here. It's awesome! umm
