Definitely noticing alot more people showing some decent respect to classic rock that it deserves. People my age (high school) I notice have lately turned off alot of the new rock and put on Led Zeppelin,The Who, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Bob Dylan, and so on. I've always listened to classic rock, and am happy to see this happening.

If that's possible, DO IT.

I also recently noticed how diverse The Who got. One of my favorite songs by them is "Won't Get Fooled Again" cause of the keyboard break. Its so awesome, yet sounds nothing like the early Who. Still, I love all of their stuff though.

the change they went through was kind of like the change the beatles went through. they went from suit wearing mods who played fun rock n roll, to artists who were more about self expression in their music. i like the later Who..

it mighta been the drugs.
Maybe but both musical movements and bands have a tendancy to progress like that.

probably zero's.

Anyways Highway to hell is a really easy song to play, but good for live performances.

/random but true.

We've been asked to play it (in french) on friday for 3-4 hundred people. We just practiced it today and it went well even though we all just learnt the song (because it's really easy). I wish we got to play some other stuff though, because this will be the largest audience we've ever played to.

Well above all, "Playing in the Band". But, the song is off of Bob Weir's Ace. So, officially it isn't even a Grateful Dead song. But it was originally performed by a Grateful Dead member, and The Grateful Dead were his backing band during the recording. And of course they always play it live.

Some other would be...

"Dire Wolf"
"Friend of the Devil"
"Eyes of the World"
"Mississippi Half-Step Toodeloo"
"St. Stephen"
"Mexacali Blues" (Once again off of Bob Weir's Ace)
"Uncle John's Band"
"Sugaree" (Though it was originally off of Garcia's s/t debut)

Those are the only ones I can think of right now.

Cream is getting together?!

You gotta be ****ting me!!! ****... I want to go...

I think I'm gonna cry.........

-Edit

After reading of the possible Cream reunion, I had to search some Cream pages, they had to have something, this is what I found.

"Rumour has it that Cream are reforming for a week-long residency at London's Royal Albert Hall next year (2005) - the same venue where the band played their last gig on November 26, 1968.
Eric, Jack and Ginger are eager to treat fans to a series of nostalgic performances and will start rehearsals months before they take the stage.
A source close to the band says, "Cream are getting back together for a week of shows at the Royal Albert Hall next spring.
The band plan on rehearsing early in the new year. No further plans have been made at this stage."

Rumours of a Cream reunion have abounded for decades, more wishful thinking than anything else!
Ginger has admitted, in the past, that he was interested in a reunion simply because he could have used the money. But, at this point, each of the players seem to have come to terms with the past and are ready to reunite, albeit briefly! My only request, play Spoonful!

Let's also pray that the suits are in on this so that Cream fans won't have to scrounge around for bootlegs of the performance!"

Cream would be a great time to see again, but 80 bucks for a Rush concert? Wow, I had no idea. I saw Rush once with AC/DC as the opening act. 6 hours of live music. I am probably the only one that old in this forum. The 70's were great for music but you had to look really hard to find them. In the early 70's we did not even have FM radio stations or stereo systems in the cars. Only AM stations and if you liked it loud, you mounted 2 speakers inside the car. So being born in the 80's - you have a hugh advantage as far as technology goes. I now get Sirius radio that I can push through my bass amp and play along now. That's a blast for me these days, classic rock and my bass. I can only hope that the quality of rock will climb from younger persons now to tribute the 70's rock. Thanks for the trip backwards...

It seems to trend like that, one or two members are the leads and the others in the band are just da** great followers. There are many exceptions to that if you count The Eagles, Zepplin, ELP, you know the super bands of the time...

The guitar playing and drumming are usually connected through Bruce's playing. But I guess it's all opinion.

P.S. I believe that almost any guitar player could have done what Clapton did with Cream. There was nothing really unique he was bringing to the table. While during that time, Bruce pretty much invented lead bass lines, and Ginger Baker's double bass skills, and overall style were doing soo much.

Because bass is such a perfect link from drums to guitar, you can usually argue that a band with a great bassist (i.e. Bruce) has bass as their most important part. I'd probably agree about Cream in this case, because Bruce did so much for them.

Yes, but it's rare that a bassist is so diverse, that he goes and connect with both the guitar and drum.

Anyways, the date of that concert is my birthday (November 26). I'm gonna turn 18, wohoo!

Cream would be a great time to see again, but 80 bucks for a Rush concert? Wow, I had no idea. I saw Rush once with AC/DC as the opening act. 6 hours of live music. But I think the tickets were about 30 bucks and we were down front and center in the crowd. I'm gonna have to get out more I guess...haha

I paid $80 Canadian to see Rush this summer. It was worth it.

i would like to see rush, but i dont think i would pay eighty bucks.

i remember the first time i heard rush, i thought the singer was a girl. then i saw a clip of a concert of theirs on tv and it was really dark and bad quality, i still thought he was a girl. and i wasnt sure if geddy was a guys or girls name.

no matter how bad creams playing could be, i would still love their playing. im sure it wont be a bad show though, i wish i could go.

so last night i was watching this vh1 thing about moments in hard rock or something like that...it showed clips from when Jethro Tull beat out Metallica for best heavy metal album (or was it metal group?) in 1988. everyone was completely stunned and metallica was all pissed off. i found it so funny when it showed Hammet complaining.

anyone else find it ironic that Jethro Tull, who has produced a lot of folk, as well as some blues rock albums beat out Metallica when it came to metal albums?

im thinking of bringing that up in The Metallica Thread but i dont want too many people mad at me.

^Yeah, $80 is crazy.

Well, here's a topic. Who do you believe is the most important member of Cream, or your favorite?

I couldn't decide who is my favorite, but I believe Jack Bruce is certainly the most important. He did most the writing, sang, and led the band with his lead bass lines.

My favourite member of Cream has to be Clapton (am I predictable or what?). And I don't think that any guitarist could have done what Clapton did. Unlike Hendrix, who was his contemporary, and Page, who is worldy known because of his playing in Zepp, Clapton was more of a perfectionist when it came to live shows. If you listen carefulle, Hendrix and Page were kinda sloppy, while Clapton was a perfectionist, and you can't barely hear a mistake of sloppiness while he's playing.

And you can't ignore the influence Clapton has over other guitarists that came after him

Jack Bruce is very talented. He was one of the first to use the bass as part of the melodic ensamble, instead of just being a backing musical instrument. He's important for being the responsible for most of the band's material, but he didn't have a very good bluesy voice, and I think Clapton is better at singing more traditional blues than Bruce. Still, he has an unique voice, and a unique talent. Bruce was the one who kept it together while the band improviesed on stage.

And Baker, he's one of the best drummers out there. One of the reasons that "Sunshine of Your Love" is so great is because of Baker's drumming.

Whichever way you look at it, Cream wouldn't have been the same without any of the members.

Against Miik!

I doubt there is one middle aged person in this thread, hopefully on this website. No, I really dont like new age rock, but then again, I dont know what bands you're specifying.
im referring to bands like creed, the darkness, system of a down, staind, disturbed

im not against classic rock but i just see threads like the official iron maiden thread with tons of posts in it, and i just think that the posters must be middle aged people because young people wouldn't listen to them? maybe its just me, but ive never heard any iron maiden music..

i have black sabbath - war pigs and black sabbath - paranoid. i think both of these songs are crap and i guess i just sort of made a generalisation from that about most of those old bands that ive never heard (eg iron maiden)

i dunno

Clapton isn't anywhere close to the world's best guitarist. But if you've heard his unplugged album you'd know that he's one of the best music-writer type guys.

Who cares if they don't play psychedelic, jazz, blues, bluesgrass influenced music or whatever. A band doesn't have to play lots of different types of music and styles

Saskatchewan do any bands go their? ......jk

Nice Man I was borm on June 11 too.

I hope Neil tours soon before he dies.:( I think he will though and he wouldnt do a tour withouit his hometown Toronto.

if neil didn't come to regina on a tour, i would be very surprised. i go to school with a girl who is related to him and they have met on several occasions, so he has family in regina. her last name is tetlock if you really need proof, i didn't believe her but after searching the net i found out its true, even though she hates him and says his music sucks.

edit- and no bands come to saskatchewan. although the tragically hip are in saskatoon tonight. i forgot to buy tickets.

Does anyone like the Animals? They were part of the San Fransico pyscheldic movement.

Well, they weren't originally. Being that they're english. But yes I do. I have one of their best ofs, and I really like it.

And I don't know how many reviews I did when you were banned.

of course there are. i dont know of any classic rock bands that were all japense though, but im sure they were out there. rock bands can come from anywhere, they just have to be famous enough for other countries to know them.

/doesn't understand the system

As for the Dylan era, I would say the one where he disapionts all his fans by wrecking his classics and not be able to sing (his vocal chords are history). That said I would still part with large amounts of money to see him live.

Okay the system works, that you can only rep people once every 25 or so (I think that's the number) times that you rep other people.

If you go to your user cp and on the main page near the bottom you can check your reps and messages and such,
