ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

This is now a Classic Rock Discussion thread!

Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath
Jimi Hendrix

Classic rock usually requires a rockin' solo. So maybe just get your guitarists to practise alot. Then learn an ac/dc song with a medium speed solo or something.

RNR
11-13-2004, 02:45 PM
Using blues based scales for solos isn't enough. I'm sorry but they aren't blues rock. They are hard rock exept for a few songs in their first few albums. There are only 10 spots in a poll and ac/dc aren't getting one. If I were to make a hard rock poll they would be on there.

No Cream?

Cream and Clapton at the same time might be a little odd. So I only put in one.

*probably should have picked Cream*

Steve Miller is one of my favorite Classic rock bands.... even though he was considered "pop" in the 70's.

Queen, Led Zeppelin, George Thorogood, The Who, Clapton/Cream... All awesome, but Steve Miller is on top of my playlist right now :)

If we wanted to do a poll, we could make a "songs not to include list" aswell, with Stairway, Iron Man, and Ac/Dc songs on there. We would have to deal with the "OMG wer iS stAirwAy 2 hEaveN?!?" kids, but I think it would be worth it.

Suck on a railroad spike? That's pretty weak. What would that do? Maybe get someone sick? Use more harmful advice, eg "Drink a tall glass of bleach" or "Play Russian Roulette with an assault rifle".

When an album doesn't live up to it's cover, or when the sound does match up with the cover.

Example: The Grateful Dead - Terrapin Station

The cover is one of the best I've ever saw, and it has a Roots concept. Right? There is a tutle playing a banjo at a railroad station. But the albums songs (other than 2) suck, and the sound is very urban.

It's definitely worth having, but I don't like it as much as most people do. Too much keyboard/synth on most of it. Very good but I prefer the Who's earlier stuff.

Yea I do too, sometimes I really like the later stuff, other times, I find myself missing the old stuff. They went through such a change though, it's interesting to hear for yourself.

the change they went through was kind of like the change the beatles went through. they went from suit wearing mods who played fun rock n roll, to artists who were more about self expression in their music. i like the later Who..

it mighta been the drugs.

"who are the grateful dead? and why do they keep following me?" - classic deadhead bumpersticker.

speaking of BUMPerstickers. i really like BUMPerstickers, especially if they BUMPersticker this thread back to the first page so i don't have to search for it all day long.

have we gotten anywhere trying to choose our favourite songs? or have we given up all hope?
