I agree:

JPJ is a great bassist.
I've considered covering DSOTM as well, if I can ever get some other guys who know how to play together.
I want to learn Hotel California really bad after hearing the live version.
I've also been really interested in Gilmour's effects. Here are some pages I found:

How is it that when we name the greatest driving songs La Grange is not the first on the list? It is by far the most ultimate driving song of all time.

Those tw are good but seriously when it comes to driving songs just try driving 140 down a two lane highway with la Grange on, I guarantee you will understand that it is the greatest driving song of all time.

No dude, Floyd's the best music in the car...anyone can cut you off, be slow, and whatnot, and you just....won't...care. It's like, "yeah, whatever, I'll get there sooner or later"...plus it always makes me spacey, like DSOM.

Hmm, for driving songs, I'd have said Stairway To The Stars, by Blue Oyster Cult.
Which, funnily enough, is probably where the La Grange riff was derived from.

I always liked the Immigrant Song in the car. Then there's always Bad Moon Rising, All Along the Watchtower and Fire, Life in the Fastlane, LA Woman, and stuff that's fast and loud. I'm sick of Rock and Roll though. I don't listen to that anymore.

I usually listen to my cd's when I'm ready to sleep so I really don't like all the cheering between tracks. I have Live Alive by SRV and it's great it really is but I don't know the cheering kinda makes me stay awake. Yeah I listen to CD's when I'm not going to sleep but again the cheering. I'll listen to Filmore East at the store and I'll buy it if it's hella good.

Trippy = Psychedelia

And I believe S.B. is much more of a rythmic reggae song.

My dad was the one who introduced me to Uriah Heep, and many other of my favourite classic rock bands.

I am not crazy... but I would work full-time and miss school to watch my favourite band live for those three hours of more... :thumb: ... but it would be one of the greatest experiences since I didn't get to grow with the music as my dad any many other people did.

I am sure a ticket wouldn't cost $2,000, maybe ranging from $200-$600 (not quite to sure)...

What do you guys think about David Gilmour's soul that he puts into his song-writting and amazing guitar playing?

No one plays with more soul than Gilmour (In my opinion). He always plays just the right note. Always. It's wierd. He isn't the fastest guitarist in the world (as if speed means anything), His chord progressions are fine art and his passionate lead runs are just memorizing. Deep in my musical drive is a part that can only be reached by him.

I feel as like many of his songs were something I’d written but could never get together. I could never write the kinds of words he does, but he’s helped me out in trying to write my own songs...

Ok heres what you do, you sell all your junk cd's (rap, hip hop, etc.) go to your music store or where ever and you buy:
1- Dark side of the moon, Pink Floyd
2- Cream of Clapton, Eric Clapton
3- Led Zeppelin III, Led Zeppelin (obviously)
4- The Best Of The Who, The Who (obviously)
And you sit down and you listen to every one of those cd's! and that should get all the demons out of you, you will never listen to rap or crap agian!

O.k., the fact that you are narrowminded enough to say that all rap and pop sucks is pathetic. Then, instead of telling me something useful, you tell me to get two best of cds and the two most popular classic rock cds. This just shows me that your opinion on music cannot be taken seriously, and on a more serious note, you should end yourself.

Obviously a first timmer wouldn't buy this. These discs aren't even known. Let alone their critically "good" albums.

If you do (There are overall 13 discs) happen to go out and buy each disc, it would roughly come out to $190. And you probably won't find a quarter of them.

And overall, what your kinda proposing, is that we might aswell buy a Best of CD. All the songs are good. Some editions are even extended, but you won't know how much more good songs there are.

What album is that off of? It sounds like a cool song just by the name.

From the first album. It is a good song, as well as that riff, it's got an excellent solo too, that's great fun to jam to.
If you get the remaster, you'll also get three bonus tracks recorded as the Stalk-Forrest Group, from an unreleased album. Psychedelic, jammy and all out great fun.

Some people find it stupid to get a Best of, because if they got into a the chosen band, they would have wasted money. Unless you consider it a sample, but then you could have just downloaded it or sampled a song for free. I doubt you would understand, the commitment is obviously not shown through you, being that you listed all hit songs off of their new compilation (Though you may not have it), and you titled one of their known songs incorrectly.

Well, wanting to get into a band plays a large role. And actually "Skeletons" is a bad compilation. It contains regular hits, and then throws in a few that weren't on any Grateful Dead album, nor even known to be good recordings, but good live ones. "Mexacali Blues", and "One more Saturday Night" were off of Bob Weir's Ace (even though The Grateful Dead played on each track.), "Rosemary" is hardly two minutes long, let alone not even a Dead favorite. They even claimed they didn't pick the songs on the album.

I'm that big of a fan of them..I have a large CD collection though and that isn't a gem..and yeah I' reading Uncle Tom's Cabin for History so yeah..dunno that was weird hah.

And putting me down for listing their hit songs...keyword HIT songs they are hits ...I could've named some more that I enjoy but I like those the most. I'm in no way shape or form a dead head, so calm down.

Well, your opinion on the matter helps nothing. If I followed your opinion, I'd have 12 (not 13) more Grateful Dead albums and be about $70 shorter than I could have been. And I ouldn't have any of the extra tracks, being that the ones included haven't been part of the new remastered series, and supposebly will not.

In your review you claimed it was your favorite Grateful Dead compilation. But then again, it looked like your first review so I won't be too mean :p

I always see Dick's Picks Dead CD's. Who the hell is Dick?

Dick runs The Grateful Dead's live album archive. He picks the concerts they put out.

And yes David Grisman is still alive.

Well I started listening to "The Notorious Byrd Brothers" based on comparissions to Olivia Tremor Control which is a really out there band (one of my all time favorite bands) and some similaries are defintley there especially in the phasings and studio effects. I don't know much about the Byrds though to make comparisions to their other stuff.

Obviosly a man of his knowledge does :)

On a related topic, I recently went to this show: http://www.calgarysun.com/perl-bin/niveau2.cgi?s=arts&p=89632.html&a=1

It's like a Joni Mitchell tribute with a live band and 3 singers and everything.

2 hours of pure musical orgasm it was

i just listened to the entire Atom Heart Mother album by Pink Floyd, and im slightly disappointed. the first extremely long song (or is it just a collection of songs) was amazing, but after that it went downhill. What are you opinions on this album?

i would post this in the Pink Floyd thread, but most of them are such big fans they would just say i'm stupid or something useless, so im looking for real opinions.

I love Roger McQuinn's twelve string. Especially in the beginning of Eight Miles High, to name but one example.

I'm definitely into the country-rock. Gram Parsons is a real underrated musical figure. He was in the International Submarine Band, where he began his country rock stage. He turned the Byrds into a more country sounding band with Sweetheart of the Rodeo, though many people don't really appreciate the change. And then he went on to start the Flying Burrito Brothers, one of my favourite bands, and one of the most underrated by far. They did a great cover of the Stones' "Wild Horses"

check out their first album, surrealistic pillow. it's got some really good songs on it, white rabbit is on it, same with Somebody to love (you've probably heard it). All the songs are amazing. Kind of like surf music (think Ventures) meets The Doors, with Jerry Garcia as the musical and spiritual advisor (it actually credits him as that on the album), i think it means he supplied them with acid.
