Ok..I know everyone's chattin' it up, but this came to my mind, and I thought it might turn out. Since we're already talking about Zeppelin: The Who vs. Led Zeppelin. What do you guys think? Entwistle vs. JPJ, Moon vs. Bonham, Daltry vs. Plant. Townshend vs. Page, but there probably won't be much argument as to who's the better guitarist. Townshend..lol. But they're similar in so many ways. Opinions?

Tull > You

The show was amazing last night. Tulls versatility is quite stunning. They did everything from bach to jazz to blues to folk to hard rock. They started with an acoustic set at 8, took a 20 minute break at 9 and played from then on with their electric set until 10:45. I wish they had played bungle in the jungle, thick as a brick and look into the sun, but to say i was dissapointed they didn't would be an exageration. They played so many other great pieces anyways.

The music was great, and the performance was equally well done, with Ian Anderson dancing about on stage with his flute and carrying huge inflatted balls on his head. They also talked to the audience marvellously, the best I've ever seen. Amazing show really, it was great.

I love how they made Live at the Fillmore and Live at Leeds into 2-Disc deluxe sets. Even though they cost more, you get so much more material and better sound quality. On Live at Leeds, you get the whole Tommy part. On Live at the Fillmore, there are more songs and then a few songs from Eat A Peach, namely Mountain Jam.

Yeah, I know, and I totally agree they should have won. I'm just suprised that they won over Led Zeppelin, the quinessential classic rock band...That's why I said there must have been a good group of people in that debate, not just "Led Zeppelin Rules!" typle folk...

The Live at Leeds record at Abbey Road records downtown has all of six songs on it...It's crazy how they went from that, to releasing it with everything, including a full performance of Tommy. I so want to get it...

There is no such thing as an overrated band. People who think that their opinion is greater than a million other people's are moronic.

By the way, Ruth, you're famous around here now. http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5379561&posted=1#post5379561

I totally agree. I never liked the wall much except a few songs. I think the Divison bell is the most underated, since it gets no attention since it came out after Waters left (wayyyy after, in 1994), but still is very good, especially Gilmours guitar work.

Well, i dont think its so much the tone...but this is a good example of how Floyd uses so many effects ALL THE TIME, that you cant even tell, but it sounds so dam good your better off not knowing. Heres the effects he used (all together) during the song

Compressor (intro)
Overdrive mid gain (intro + solo)
Chorus (intro + solo)
Phaser (3rd solo + intro)

And i think Delay and Reverb were used here and there, but i cant be sure. But yes, beutiful guitar sound. Invest a good $3000 and yours can sound like that! really, thats all it cost!

Its hard to get people to entirely change their musical taste unless its voluntary. Some of my friends do love Zeppelin, Floyd, Van Halen, Rush etc., But i do catch them with green day or even some rap playin on their computer every now and then.

I dont know why, but now, i seriously can not enjoy ANYTHING modern. I dont know why...i try but cant

Same here. I like a song or two from the "modern era", but otherwise I've become really jaded towards newer music. It all seems so much the same. I'll bet that was the case back in the 60's and 70's, though, too.

Well than that's a lot of ....oh well.

I know, I do it alot. But I can quit anytime I want though. Seriously.....=p.

Yeah same. But I'm seen as the person to go to if you need classic rock help :p

If there is a band that comes along from former bands (Audioslave for example), odds are Ill like them, but totally forget about them after a month. THey did have a good album, along with Queens of the Stone Age and RHCP, who are getting worse IMO.

But i think Dave Grohl is one of the few musicians closest to classic rock in this age. Does anyone agree (or even know who he is?)

I know who he is. I've only heard a few foo fighters songs, but I liked them. Wasn't he doing like a metal album with like a bunch of special guests like Lemmy from or something? I thought I saw something about it in a guitar magazine.

i cant stand that! when a friend gets into a band seriously, and your all happy, but when they come over and want to listen, they just tell you to keep playin the same 3 or 4 songs - totally unwilling to listen to anything else, or even accept as another song by the band.

Its especially bad when that paticular person loves a paticular song.....and can not sing for his life.

But they found the yardbirds hilarious. Figure a band with the greatest guitarist - Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and Jeff Beck - making songs like Over Under Sideways Down and the Hot House of Omargarashid...though that one is funny. I love that little wobbly noise in the backround about 1:30 (i think) into the song.

I dont know about that, but aside form being guitarist from the Foo Fighters, he plays drums for Queens of the Stone Age and he did for Nirvana too (which i dont really enjoy his work for). But his drum solo on Song for the Dead, on the album Songs for the Deaf was pretty good. Not like Moby Dick or nothin, but playin like that for that long isnt as easy as it sounds

I just learned Hotel California on the guitar, theirs alot of stuff goin on there, its not just like appregos for G and A and C or watever, its very complicated.

If by any chance somebody here plays guitar, I need some cheaper versions of Gilmours effects, since he invest a good 300 bucks into those machines, and i couldnt live another 20 years and make that much money. I plan on covering the entire Dark Side of the Moon Album, so this isnt going to be cheap

And another question...I believe a slide guitar is used in Breathe and The great Gig in the Sky...is there anyway i can get a sound like that out of a normal guitar, with a metal slide or anything. Im looking at a DSOTM guitar tab book on thursday, hopefully it will have everything for both guitars, effects used, and actually incluse the entire song

hotel california is great to play on guitar, did you know there is about eight different guitars going on at once? im assuming you are playing the 12 string acoustic part.

the secret to buying good effects for cheap is pawn shops, people buy good effects when they have a lot of money, and then end up selling them when they are low on cash. pawn shops have lots of great guitar stuff for pretty cheap, and some of it is barely even used.

and you probably could just use a slide with your electric, it may not sound exact, but it will be better than nothing. slide guitar is hard to get sounding perfect, so i suggest you practice a little before you start recording.

and also...look over the tab book to see if it has all the parts, one time i was looking at a tab book for Led Zeppelin, and it left out the solo for Stairway as well as a lot of rhythm guitar tracks.

i bought this one bruce springsteen album (for 1 dollar) that is a collection of live songs from 75 to 78 and it comes with its own little box and book. (theres like five different records in it or something like that) the book is cool because it kind of explains where each song came from and stuff like that.

its a great live album collection, although it takes a whole day to listen to all of it, anyone else have it? i suggest it highly if you are into springsteen.

The Byrds have the instrumental talent Dyland lacks. Like Clarence White, whoa!!!!!!!!!!! And of course Crosby, and Mcguinn's voice. They also have a Country sense, while Bob has a Folk sense.
