Nice Frail, im going to have to get a costume next time. Me and my 3 friends got our faces painted by our parents :P As the four members, i was Ace (well tommy). Tommy Thayer was perfect, not one mistake. This woman took a photo of us. She walks up to us randomly and goes smile. Since you wern't allowed photos in the event, and she took one in the open we reckon she was a journalist. I could be in the paper somewhere ;) One guy i know caught Paul Stanleys pick :O They had a pretty awesome setlist, included things like christine sixteen. We are also pretty diehard :D

Classic metal isn't even considered metal anymore. Because these new **** bands take it to a whole new level and just try to be as heavy as possible. No song structure no melody... Bands like Madien and Metallica look like pop bands compared to them. But who's music is better? I say classic metal ;)

for awhile i was only into more mainstream music. One day i heard "come together" by the Beatles on the radio and i remember thinking "wow, this is really good" So i started listening to the Beatles. Then i started hearing Hendrix, which made me think, "old music is the sh*t". now i listen to mostly all classic rock, with the exception of a few newer bands, which started in the 80's and just kept making good music.

I've noticed kids only liking popular and well known Classic Rock bands, like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, ect...

They missout on some of the greatest lesser known Classic rock bands. Like The Byrds, or Buffalo Springfield, Big Brother and Holding Company, The Velvet Underground, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Van Morrison, ect. Most of those bands were pretty big in their day, but the kids these days aren't looking for those bands. Usually, they are looking for the heavier, or louder types, but that's only the kids I know.

i still think Led Zeppelin are the greatest rock band ever, but i dont feel the need to preach it.

anyways, I aggree that Mitch Mitchell is one hell of a drummer. The only surviving member of the Experience :( his drum work on "fire" is still some of the most enjoyable skin beatings ive ever heard. than Jimi had to go along with his band of gypsys and Mitch was left hanging dry for awhile, but ill always think of him as Jimi's drummer.

lunch998
05-22-2004, 08:50 AM
Yea, Mitchells definitely great, and hes underrated cause people tend to look just at Hendrix but there was more to the Experience then just Jimi.

And sorry for saying Led zeppelin is the best band ever......i guess you've probably heard that a lot by now.

A great Mitchell track is Manic depression on Are you Experienced. He really makes that song.

B0nz0
05-22-2004, 10:39 AM
i love zeppelin as much as the next guy, but i think that while they are great, the slot of "best band ever" still belongs to the Beatles. sorry guys.
and as for mitchell, he's one of my biggest influences. his drumming was always creative and unique. if jimi's guitar and vocals didn't scream Jimi Hendrix so obviously, one could identify an experience song just because of mitch's unique style. and while everyone gives mitch lots of praise for his excellent chops in manic depression and fire, his real talent was knowing how to drum aggressively and not ruin a song. and when not to drum aggressively, which is probably even more important. he was a great all around drummer, easily in the top 3 of his peers (or british drummers around in the mid to late 60's, the other two in the top 3 are ginger baker of cream and keith moon of the who). spectacular drummer

lunch998
05-22-2004, 10:58 AM

Nah Tool's not even close to Zepplin but go you for the Genisis loving. I do like one band that's out today, anybody know Rammstein. They're pretty good in a german rave music kinda way. Anyway..............ouch my brain hurts..................................

Led Zeppelin does kill.

Rammstein was one of my favorite bands until I translated their lyrics into English. I didn't like that much. But they still do rock. :thumb:

what do you guys think aobut bands like cold play and gorkys zygotic mynci
which is better the helloween version of hocus pocus or the focus version
(focus is the original)

i think they are a sad excuse of a "rock and roll band" and have no buisness covering a band as grand as Helloween when they are not able to pull it off musically.

many say that beatles shouldn't even be considered rock.

some call them pop. :upset:

It doesn't matter they sound great regardless of what you call them, rock, pop, crap on a log, it doesn't change their sound, it's just perception.

ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6.

so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?

i agree completely with your thinking that there might be a revival. i just turned 17 last week, and for the last year or 2 I've only been listening to Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Hendrix, The Who, Clapton, pretty much everything you mentioned. glad to see its not just me. except my parents probably think i'm on drugs, but its cool.

Well, I certainly hope classic rock is coming back....
I can't stand to turn on the radio today and hear all this punk, emo, and other crap....Why don't they just keep it simple? With all these worthless genres...
I also think music has a lack of talent these days. Like that all that worthless screaming (The worst song ever i heard with screaming is a LP song where the guy screamed "Shut UP" like 20 times) and bad guitar riffs and solos.

I hope I can do my part in reviving classic rock. Me and my cousin have formed a classic rock band hoping to revive classic rock in our area. BTW if you have any experience with this or just have any advice plz email me at tylermart@sw.rr.com...

Gather around kids, Badmoon will now speak his thoughts...

You don't want a Classic Rock revival band. You want a band that inbodies something similar to the bands from the 60's to the 70's. Classic Rock revival is cheesy, it's wannabe like, and it's trying to label yourself so you get people to listen. Plus it is now a stereo type. You should make decisions like, let me give an example. We all said that The Black Crowes resembled a Classic Rock band more than any other. Well, The Black Crowes were not trying to revive anything. They were just playing some what they felt, and that usually was Blues Rock songs, that you can (probably because of influence) easily compare to The Rolling Stones. They had everything an early 70's group had. Dual guitars, rangy vocalist, organ, and a good solid bassist and drummer. So, what I'm trying to say is, don't try to change the world (Unless your a folk band), just try to do what you feel is right, and try to be unique, and try to set the standards. Your influence will bring you to what you want. So, just shut up and play your music.

RNR
05-27-2004, 07:24 PM
^There are still some bands like that. Just none in the mainstream. Back when Zeppelin, pink floyd, Eric Clapton, Hendrix and all of those other well known bands were in the mainstream it was easy to get into it. But now since kids don't like that kind of stuff all of the rock and roll bands are unknown. The Black Crowes are a well known classic rock band. So are The Darkness but they suck.

It'd Be great to change the music scene. But your right, that the way to go about it is not to be a "classic rock revival band" It's just to go out there and play whatever the hell you like (which admittedly for us shall be largely classic rock influenced) and if you're lucky people will catch on.

I think the reason most guitarists like classic is because they apreciate the creativity and awsome instrumentals, since they've familiarized themselves with the skill it takes to write and play songs. Some new music is creative and awsome, but not quite like classic rock. Jimi Hendrix was a God :thumb:

For those who hate classic rock, here is a question. How many of the bands/artists that have emerged since 2000, that still have a carreer, will be remember in 30 or 40 years? Now think about the overwhelming number of bands that are remembered today by so many people. Rap/emo/punk/pop/everything not rock can kiss my *** for hating.

GarinStone

Since 2000 i don't think any. I think RHCP and Smashing Pumpkins and Incubus, maybe a couple others will be remembered that long, but Linkin Park and Korn aren't gonna get airplay in 40 years the way Zeppelin (ok 30 years) is.

As for other classic rock lets go down under with Australian Crawl. If you haven't heard any of there songs, there worth checking out. Reccomended songs: Land Down Under and The Boys light up.

Also check out Franz Ferninand (sp?). Not entirely Classic rock, but a catchy guitar riff (All goes to bring instrument orientated music into mainstream)

Alright, to start off I'll respond to the initial post by saying that I love the Birdland album. I just really started listening to Rock and Roll (classic, none of this new shi-ite) about a year ago, and it was one of the first true albums I picked up. 'Nough about that.

As for my favorite bands, Zeppelin tops all of them, closely followed by Boston, Bad Company, Rush, CCR, Lynyrd Skynyrd (the band that got me started), Cheap Trick (what can I say, I'm from Rockford), Cream, Alice Cooper, the Yardbirds and several others that I know I'm forgetting. I like some of the Who's and the Beatles' stuff, but I started listening to them after Zeppelin, and there is just no comparison.

As for the Darkness, they're fun. I know they're not as good as the classics, but if you listen to them a bit and give them a chance, they can be a pretty cool band. Plus their live shows are awesome.

Almost Famous = One of my favorite movies. It is actually a true story, no matter what everyone says. William is Cameron Crowe, and that first scene with Lester Bangs I can prove is true. Read Lester Bangs's biography.

Almost famous is a great movie! I dono, it just really rocked, the encapsulated the entire music industry back then, and just had this 'rock n' roll' feel about, which i loved.

Soooo, I went out and bought a Gov't Mule album finaly after downloading about 20 songs from Bearshare. I had spare money and plus, it's not fun waiting an hour for a 10 minute song. I got Deepest End (with the spare DVD even though I'm poor and do not posses a DVD player. I have to go to my friend's house...) and I have been enjoying that CD to the max! Warren Haynes is a madman. This CD has some of the best jamming I've heard in a while. They are heavily blues influenced and that makes them near perfect. Since Allen Woody passed away in 2000 in this concert they use about a dozen different bassists from Claypool to Flea. They did some cool covers like "Voodoo Child" which made me spooge and more others... There are 20 songs on the 2 CD's and about 20 more on the DVD. I highly recomend people of this C.R. thread buying this album and all of the other Gov't Mule albums. Well, I'm gonna go back to working on this school thing. I'll see you guys later. Peace...

At my highschool, I am seeing a huge revival in classic rock. Ive always been a fan of classic rock but I've recently seen some people who have been die hard heavy metal type of people give more folk and blues based rock a shot in recent years. I am all for it. The more people who I can share my taste in music with, the better.

My personal favorite classic rock bands/artists are

Led Zeppelin
The Beatles
Pink Floyd
AC/DC
Boston
Queen
Bob Dylan
Van Halen
Jimi Hendrix
Guns N Roses
The Who
Peter Frampton

But unlike some other classic rock fans I am willing, and in fact, I am trying new music everday.

And of course there are more hugely popular Classic Rock bands that should be known forever. Like, The Who (My favorite). They make music like no other. Each member was fabulous, all craftman. Or The Grateful Dead, who defined a generation, and started a long line of San Fransico bands. Or Crosby, Stills Nash, and Young. Who in many ways were the American, more talented Beatles. They had it all. For most Classic rock listens, that band is usually over looked, and The Grateful Dead.

I recomend all Classic Rock listeners to listen to these lesser known Classic Rock bands
