Yeah I was sampling of "the site" and it wasnt that good.....however I liked Working man's Dead.
Badmoon
10-21-2004, 07:58 PM
Can you give us some reasons why?
What's with all of the Jeff Healey/rocknotroll posers? Just because you have the avatar and the usertitle doesn't make you as good as me
And American beauty is an album that gets better every time you listen to it. Give it another chance or i'll choke you with a mullet.
Broken Arrow
10-21-2004, 08:03 PM
Well maybe i'll give Mullet Magnolia another chance.
Broken Arrow
10-21-2004, 08:10 PM
I like Working Man's Dead better because of : Cumberland Blues Speedway Boogie and this other song I can't reacal the name of.
I really liked those songs and I thought Uncle John's Band was good and another one I cant recall?
Badmoon
10-21-2004, 08:15 PM
Well, there's plenty of good songs on each.
My favorite on American Beauty
-----------------------------
Sugar Magnolia
Ripple
Brokedown Palace
Operator
On Workingman's Dead
-----------------------------
Dire Wolf
Cumberland Blues
Easy wind
High Time
Though if you actually listen to the songs, run through the instrumental , tecnical and lyrical caulity (of each song), it's quite easy to see that each song is a 5/5 and each album is perfect.

They got the acoustic style which is similar to folk.

I just bought Gov't Mule's "Rising Low" DVD. It's about all the guiest stars and times and such during the recordings of The Deep End serious. And is an overall biography and tribute their late bassist (who the whole Deep end is deadicated to) Allen Woody. It is documented and completley made by Mike Gordon (bassist of Phish).
The movie taught me a crap load about bass players, and playing. And especially how great some bassists like Woody, and other's are. And it's sad :(
I reccomend you all buy it!

There's this Tull song I've heard on the radio several times. I don't know what the name is.
I figured out one of the guitar riffs in the song on the keyboard. It approximately goes like this:
[G Ab Ab D Eb - - G ] [G Ab - Ab Ab Bb - - ]
Hopefully that makes sense.

I can't think of that many tull songs they play on the radio I thnik I've only heard
Aqualung
Locomotive Breath and
Thick as a Brick
on the radio
Seafroggys
10-22-2004, 01:02 PM
I know its not Aqualung and Locomotive Breath. I don't think its Thick As a Brick...because its an actual song, and I think its earlier then Aqualung (I heard it on a Tull radio documentary, and they played it from an earlier album).

My Sunday Feeling, Nothing Is Easy, A New Day Yesterday maybe?
Who do you guys think is the the better bassist, John Entwhistle or Jack Bruce?
Seafroggys
10-22-2004, 01:50 PM
Jack Bruce. Even though Entwistle's work in My Generation during those little licks were ungodly.
But across the board, with all their songs, definitly Bruce.

I think completely opposite. Watch John Entwistle play live, it'll blow your mind.
Not to mention he played like a God until his death, now that's a bass player.

10-22-2004, 02:19 PM
Entwistle, definitely. He was just really good on every song, in my opinion. Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again (but everyone was at their best on that one), Getting in Tune...I pick Entwistle =p

I'm on a CCR kick...Up Around the Bend has to have the coolest guitar riff ever..anyways, what do you guys think of CCR/John Fogerty? Real American roots rock and roll, in a time where people were getting really psychedelic...
i don't know about that, Run Through The Jungle has a really cool riff. Either way CCR rocks :thumb:

Enwhistle on the Live at the Isle of Wight Dvd and Live at Leeds show that he is amazing, and why his is my favorite bass player. The end of Tales of Brave Ulysses gives major points to Bruce though.
All this talk of bas players while I'm gone, yet when I'm on there's nothing. I also prefer Entwhistle to Bruce, but not by much.

The Who has great bass and drums, as well as great songwriting...i think that Pete could have worked a little harder when it came to guitar, instead of just like doing windmills and smashing stuff (not that he wasnt talented)

I love Keith Moon. He's my favorite drummer.
My jazz band teacher hates it when I play fills, but every so often I decide to go "Keith Moon" on his *** and play some sweet lick here or there.
Who Are You? is one of Moon's finest.
I hate having an old geezer for a band teacher.
Hey! Geezer is the name of one of my favorite bassists, you shouldn't use it as an insult.

rush all the way, i mean there will probably never be a drummer as good as peart and lifeson is so under rated, and geddys voice will get u every time. theyre songs are more diverse than probably any band out there. thats wut music is missing, nowa days if u throw a couple songs togather that have power chords and u have an album
I agree that Rush is awesome, but there are drummers better than Peart. However they are dead, but that is beside the point. Bonham and Moon were both better than Peart, they were able to sound crazy without using a 100 piece set.
Whoever the hell drumms for Jeff Beck is better than Peart. But I mean, Rush is just so awesome it doesn't matter :)

I agree about Bonham and Moon, I even prefer Baker and Mitchell to Peart. However I find Rush overrated, their music doesn't appeal to me as much as it does so some people.
And one of my favorite songs to listen to while driving is Ramblin' Man by the Allmans.

It's not so much that they're over rated it's just that their music doesn't appeal to you. The Grateful Dead does not appeal to me, but they are not over rated because I know they were all great musicians and songwriters. Geddy, Alex, and Neil are all at the top of their field when it comes to musicianship.

Yes quite, I should watch that again soon. Bonham's later drumming is often to much "cleaner" shall we say, it seems much more spread out and empty(not to say it's bad just the best way I know to describe it). But in concerts he can do a good job of putting the kick back into it.

The beat without them is still cool. Theres a real kickass part in the fade-out that most people probably don't hear. It's around 2:40 and it's not even that great, but Bonham plays it so it sounds so cool.

I think it's because guitar solos have become such a standard part of most rock songs, that its hard to find the good ones. A lot of them become unoriginal and generic.
