Haha, greatest hits are usually the easiest and most econical way to get into a new band. If you have the money, I strongly recommend you buy the Who Live At Leeds 2-disc set. You have to shell out 30$, but it's the best money I have ever spent on a CD. Then again, Who's Next is top notch as far as their studio material. I just prefer the Who live.

Anybody ever hear of Atomic Rooster? They're an old classic rock/ folk rock group around sixties/early seventies. They got some amazing tunes. Sounds like the music from Monthy Python Holy Grail when Lancelot is legging it up to the castle. "Dun du da dun, dun du da dun (bit of flute flute), guitar riff, dun du da dun" that kinda stuff. Really good.

80s hard rock is classic because it's hard rock and fairly classic. Grunge isn't the classic rock style so it can never be classic rock. It will be classic grunge one day though :thumb:

ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?
o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6.
so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?
I have started to notice a few people around my school who are into classic rock. Not near enough people but whatever. Classic rock is the best. Back then people in bands actually had talent. I don't like this cheesy punk stuff where the guitarist knows 3 power chords and has a band. And I hate rap. It's not even really music.
I love bands like:
Van Halen (Eddie Van Halen is the best guitarist ever born)
AC/DC (Angus Young rocks the blues like no one else)
Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page is amazing)
Guns N' Roses (Slash freakin' rocks)

I don't know if she looks better now than ever, I saw a picture of her in 68 where she looked ok, but then I saw she didn't shave her legs... then I was scared.
And yes, Jimmy Page is asian now, you wouldn't expect Mr. Wang to be part of one of history's greatest rock band, now would you?

Eddie's such an old burnt out poser... and he doesn't even look asian .
He could learn a thing or two from Page :)
1. Less distorion more time spent pollishing your songs.
2. 15 minutes of wank is only good when combine with a bow and a telecaster.

Yeah, but Eddie is better than Page.
In technical skill (just playing fast) he is. And don't start some bull**** about Eddie somehow being as a good riff and melody writter because he's not.
But eddie zwns. Who can do the splits in mid air while jumping off of an amp and playing eruption? Huh huh?

10-16-2004, 02:48 PM
in my opinion page is the better songwriter, and not just for guitar. his technical skills arent nearly as refined as van halens though, but thats because he spent his time writing amazing songs, instead of practicing scales.
both are awesome, but i think van halen is kinda arrogant, page is pretty nice in his interviews.

Well, I'm not talking about writing. And a guitar shouldn't have to lean back on "I'm a good riffer" as support. There's a million of um.
Let's face it, Page sounds alot better.
But if you were only going on skill than sure, I agree.

Very early in the career he was sloppy, but toward the mid 70's he became very technical. At least, that is what I think.

i think he was sloppy because he was always messed up on drugs/alcohol, plus he tried improvising all his solos or even adding new parts to his songs on the spot. he didnt just stick to the same thing. when i try to do that, it sounds a lot worse than his does. if he wanted to just play the same solo/song over and over again the same way, im sure it would sound perfect.

Great, I'd hope someone would ask.
- Possibly the second labeled Psychedelic Band
- First band to use 2 drummers
- First to use 3-D recording, which Pink Floyd would use later in their career
- First to play Bluegrass Rock
- Played Country Rock and Folk.
- Used an unbelieveable amount of classic literature reference in their writing, along with many other diverse writing methods.
- Used such instruments as Banjo, Pedal Steel, Mandolin, ect...That were hardly used before in Rock.

And you also won the arguement.

The diversity is high, but it doesn't compare. Give me some huge points of diversity.
You just admit the diversity is there. So The Dead are more diverse. So what? Metallica is pretty diverse.... doesn't stop them from sucking. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to directly compare Metallica to the Dead, or say that the Dead suck, but diversity doesn't make the band. I mean, the Stones aren't all that diverse, but they totally rock. Ultimately, this whole thing is nothing more than an opinion argument, because the factors that make a band "great" are entirely subjective. You say Garcia is a better writer than Barrett, but some people say the guys from Linkin Park blow both of them out of the water.
Also, didn't mean to single Badmoon out with this little rant, it was just kind of a stream of consciousness.
