Without Four Sticks there would be no Rock and Roll.
When they were recording Four Sticks, they got sick of this song and Bonham started playing this drum part from a Little Richard song. Page started to play this riff and an instant classic was born.

Little late, so again, I'll try to answer some of the questions.
-Favourite Led Zeppeling song: I really dig Immigrant Song, Dazed and Confuse and Stairway to Heaven (Yes, I like Stairway, so what?!)
-Favourtie Beatles song: While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Just the thought of a guitar crying because of mankind's ignorance it's just overwhelming to me as a guitarist. Also, this song has one of the best Clapton solo out there, in my opinion, and Harrison never sounded better singing a song (well, maybe in Something, but that's a whole 'nother point)
-Favourtie Beatles album and why: the Beatles (better known as the White Album). How many other groups can pull out something like the White Album and still sound like geniuses? From a Beach Boy spoof (Back in the USSR), to a children sing-along (the Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill), to a political satire with a clasical influence (Piggies) to even mocking the press because they think every song and lyric they wrote has some subliminal image (Glass Onion) and not to mention, my favourite song is in this album (While My Guitar Gently Weeps)... and that's just the first album! In the second you get the loudest the Beatles ever got (Helter Skelter), what George Harrison would do in his solo career (Long, long, long), a new birthday song (Birthday) to just plain blues, with some of the most obscure lyrics of the late 60's (Yer Blues). The White Album rocks. Period.
And... Cream RULES!

Then under which category would you put a band like Cream?
Badmoon
09-25-2004, 04:07 PM
Cream was to technical and Psychedelic. They stayed away from repetetive formulas.
slowhand
09-25-2004, 04:09 PM
I think that Zeppeling took what Cream did and implemented it themselves to be what they were.
If you compare both bands closely, you'll see they are basically the same. Just that Cream were only together for 2 years. I've always hear people saying what it's great of Led Zeppelin, and what they did first before every other band, but most of those things Cream did first.
Badmoon
09-25-2004, 04:12 PM
I believe the only band you can relate to Cream, is The Experience. They have a deep pychotic Blues sound that is complemented with some kind of Psychedelic sense. Which comes out of no where.

The bads were also good friends. Hendrix's version of Sunshine of Your Love is cool.
slowhand
09-25-2004, 04:20 PM
Maybe. But Noel Redding isn't in the same level as Jack Bruce. All that Redding did while Hendrix played was to play the same bassline over and over, the only other member of the Experience that pushed Hendrix was Mitch Mitchell.
But while Clapton did his extended solo, Bruce was right behind him, improvising, and the same goes for Baker. That's what made Cream's performance so famous. They all were taking by the energy the 3 members gave to each other to show their virtuosity and that they were truly the 'cream of the crop.'
Maybe what is because Redding isn't originally a bass player and only took it up because he needed money, but I think the Experience and Cream are way different.
I've always thought that Zeppelin capitalize on what Cream did, specially Page on Clapton. If Cream would have gone longer, Zeppelin might not have been as great as they turned out to be.
And now I wait for some Zeppelin fan to flame me.

I'm not talking about skill, but of their live performances. But that's not their general similiarities neither, I suppose. So I was talking, or should I say writting, out of context.

Woodstuck, if that ever happens again, all you have to do is open that image on pain, go to File, then to Save As, and change the format from .bmp to .jpeg, .jpg or .gif and you can upload it yourself.
And I suppose that everyone is changing to B&W... That's odd.
EDIT:
Best Cream song? That's hard. But I guess the Cream essentials are "Sunshine of your Love," "White Room" and "Crossroads."

I'm 14 and 90% of my playlist is Classic Rock (70% being The Doors) and it does seem to be making a comeback. I see a lot of people listening to Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd in high school which really suprised me, seeing as in middle school I was like the only kid who listened to rock. However I dont really think id like to see it become some big craze like "punk" did. It would lose its class if every kid and there brother were wandering around listening to Jim Morrison having no idea what he was singing about, and just doing it to look cool.

I turned back to my Clapton avatar. Sorry...
Anyways, I didn't even say why is Disraeli Gears my favourite right now.
Well, it's just that's the one in the middle, when they really got to know each other and were still getting along. And you can hear that on the album. Also, this album was made in a short period of time (the myths say only 3 days) and you can almost feel the tracks being live. I also find it funny the last number, 'Mother's Lament.' It also has "Sunshine of Your Love" there, Cream's signature song, and the first experimentation with the wah-wah pedal (Cream's album was delayed several months, and Hendrix released his first using the wah-wah in some songs after hearing "Tales of Brave Ulysses" by Cream in a demo, so everyone thought that the first artist to use the pedal was Hendrix).
Anyways, its a well rounded album, and that's why it's good.
