Bonzo - I'ts a pretty good idea but I'm not sure if it's gonna work. I don't think we have to be that uhh together? And if we get other people to join it wont work anymore. How about each of us puts an acronym of our favorite band by our clan name Ex. MX Fathers of Time (LZ) then put an avatar of the band or one of the members. But the avatar will be like this. First Slide: Trippy (or not) "MX Fathers of Time" logo comes up. Second Slide: Pic of your fav band or member of band. Now if we only got someone to make those avatars for us. ANYONE GOT GOOD GIF EDITING PROGRAM?

RNR

But B0nz0 and I both level zeppelin. How about i'm MX Fathers of Time (LZJP) led zeppelin Jimmy page. And B0nz0 can be LZJB John Bonham. That is unless you do't want to be LZ.

Think about it and then tell me.

DVG - Well, it doesn't have to be a logo really. Just MX Fathers of Time in cool writing. Then the persons favorite bands. I think if you make avatars for all of us you can be in the clan! That is if you want to be and it helps if you're really active in this thread. If you make an example of one avatar that be cool. For the secong slide you can use LZ or something.

B0nz0 - I still don't get what you and RnotR are talking about. Wana explain??

RNR

I thought since he has a zeppelin name that Zeppelin would be his favorite band so we could each be a member of Led Zeppelin. Then he said he wanted the beatles so problem solved.

Badmoon

Nothing with Led Zeppelin, they are my one true hate.

csn&y

That's a good idea, we could each pick a member

If so I choose Stills, and then we could add Dallas Taylor, and Ben Greeves because they were unofficially part of the band also.

VoodooChild
04-06-2004, 02:38 PM
Well, I was thinking that we should just choose whatever band we like. For example, Bonzo can choose beatles, RnotR can choose Zep, you can choose Who, I'll choose something else. Because if we start adding new people we won't be able to fit everyone into one band. And what do you think of my idea for the avatar. DVG said he could make them(i think).

VoodooChild

This is what I would want for my avatar. First slide: Our name, Second slide: Dead logo

RockAndRoll
04-06-2004, 08:56 PM
1. I suggest putting the fathers of time logo on the avatar in Olde English font.
2. I can't beleive it i have a busy week and i miss out on being in a classic rock clan.
3. Keep yourself alive, bohemian rhapsody, Radio Gaga, Under pressure, Fat bottom girls, Tie your mother down... i decided to keep it short since frail already mentioned alot.
4. Cat stevens... classic rock or folk rock? (i consider him both because i consider classic rock to include some folk rock).
5. Favourite (one, lets try to keep this short) band of gypsy's song? I'd say isabella.
6. Is it just me or do you find alot of classic rock lovers love more of the album then many modern music lovers? For example I like all my cd's through and through, I don't really have cd's where there's just one good song on it or a few good songs and a few crappy ones. Where as I know many modern music lovers that buy cd's that have a big hit or two on it and they don't even like the rest.

Badmoon

Cat stevens... classic rock or folk rock?

If you were to consider him folk, I'd say Pop Folk.

VoodooChild
04-06-2004, 09:20 PM
1. I'll try. Thanks for the suggestion.
2. That sucks. We'll still be here thought.
3. Good choices.
4. I'm with moon. Pop-ish folk-ish rock.
5. Machine Gun.
6. That's very true. I can listen to all of my albums with out ever getting bored.

RockAndRoll
04-06-2004, 09:52 PM
I wouldn't really call him all that pop-ish but i do see your point.

Ok, these are the pictures that I want in my avatar. For the first slide use the MX Fathers of Time thing you were talking about. For the rest of the slides just use the pics that I gave you. You don't need to have all of them. Just use the ones that look and fit the best when they have been scaled down. The slides should stay for long enough so you can tell what it is then they can switch to the next one. If you know of better pictures of the band instead of mine go ahead and use them. Sorry for being so picky but I just want it to be cool. :p Again, thanks a million! :thumb:

Im a huge classic rock fan, my playlist features, Led Zep, alot of Van Halen, tons of AC/DC, Hendrix and lots of Guns n Roses. If this great genre is to return, we should all get behind the Darkness and just hope some more classic sounding bands, with raging guitar solos come out, instead of "the strokes", "kings of leon" and all those **** bands.

i love bands like: Zeppelin, Floyd, hendrix, The Eagles, Clapton, Grateful dead, and others

I do notice a lot of these poser bands like good charlote and simple plan that say that they were inspired by these bands, they are full of Sh**. They are boy bands with guitars.

Albiet, i try not to limit myself to one genre of music. I also like some nw bands, linkin park isnt bad, smile empty soul, hoobastank. Hes not new, but i also love Marley

Nice playlist. Bands like that are trying to bring back classic rock but they are nothing compared with the older stuff. Also the band Jet are said to be trying to bring classic rock back. Now their first song was awful but I heard the rest of their cd and it sounds very ac/dc based. With a little better soloing I think they could be pretty good.

The darkness are fun and I like them (most of their songs anway). Hopefully there will be more classic rock bands but it seems all of the talent these days is going to metal and not to classic rock bands. Not like any of the talent today compares with the older stuff...

I like Linkin Park's "hybrid theory" cd a lot. But once they whored out on the media I stoped caring. I still listen to hybrid theory once in a while though.

I'm looking for some of their other ones like Blue Oyster Cult, Tyranny and Mutation and others. Even though I only have W of the T I still love it. I love BOC because the're so unique and original. They have this dark psychedelic feel to them. It's amazing. Roeser's guitar work is awesome and Bloom's voice is up there with the greats. S, what do the rest of you guys think of them.

ANYWAY, any of you guys like ZZ Top. I'd say I'm a decent fan of theirs. I don't have any of their albums but I have quite a few songs downloaded. Some of my favorites are "Apologies to Pearly", "La Grange", Legs", "Sharp Dressed Man", "Cheap Sunglasses", "Pearl Necklace" and more others. What I like about them is their "dirty southern blues" style they got. Plus Billy Gibbons is one of the best blues players out there. It's said that he was Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitar player. My band, "The Frozen Food Section", is trying to bring back jam bands and Folk/Bluegrass/Blues/Psychedelia-Rock. Though there are a good amount of bands like that now, but they are mostly underground (With the exception of a few), and maybe we can join the greats and get people more into that type of music. The best thing you could do instead of starting a band right away, is learn atleast 15 covers by yourself. The covers would have to be by a band(s) that you want to sound like. Don't make originals until you can play each of those songs, have them down by memorization, and know them like the back of your hand. That will give you a knowledge of what you want to write and what you want to sound like. The next step would be, forming a band. Just don't rush into stuff. This is all being said from a guy who rarely gets out, and no tons of crap like this. Make sure you know what you want from your band also.

Oh yea guys, that reminds me, yesterday, as an opening act, Jimi Hendrix's Second Cousin was there. He can really play! but i dono, he didnt have the soul... or mabye i couldnt care too much about him waiting for DP to come on. Anyway, they said hes got an album on the way, and the stuff he plays, real classic rock sorta stuff, i sorta hope he makes it big, 'cause yea.

No, I believe they have talent, but I do believe they're slightly overrated, in all aspects.

I use to like them, but it's just Robert Plant's voice that makes you dislike them. There are many other reasons why I dislike them, but that is one large part.
I do understand what you mean about them being slightly over rated but they're still an amzing band in my opinion.

I have a friend that also really disliked robert plant's voice for a while, at first he was a huge fan then the voice got to him now he's becomeing a fan again. But what I found odd about it is that he listens to alot of radio head, and really likes thom yorke (yes his voice to me is very annoying at times).

Although I disagre with you i respect your opinion because you have actual reasons not "They're just old fogey music".

Anyways as for bands I dislike it depends on what you consider classic rock. However one band that took a wrong turn was jefferson airplane. As jefferson airplane they had good stuff but later on they just sucked - jefferson starship and such.

Yea, i know, or people that go "CALSSIC ROCK IS AWESOME" have only heard zeppelin, but hey some of them are just new to it and haven't had their time to "grow".

But ya i do not what you mean, most "real" (for lack of a better word) classic rock fans like the song, but I don't know a single one who would site it as their favourite song. The song is defintely over rated, it's good but they have better stuff. I find the bigger fans of bands are often the ones that like the bands less popular songs.

Ya, i don't really care for kiss, i'm sure their shows are great but as far as music goes it's mediocre. In interviews they seem much to full of themselves I they're all "ya, rock sucked and then we came and everybody was happy" especially gene simmons.

Classic Rock is pretty good, but it's way too popular in my opinion. I love bands like Pink Floyd, the Beatles, CCR, THe Byrds, etc but most of the best classic rock bands are from the 60s. In the 70s it lost all of it's credibility when bands like the Eagles, BTO, and Foreigner emerged. That stuff is so generic. Another thing is that is get so much play on the radio, the classic rock. Why doesn't the radio ever play and Velvet Underground, they are a classic example of a great rock band.

I've been playing guitar about four years, but I've been serious for the last year or so, and maybe for a short time a couple years ago. I don't typically play other people's solos, 'cause they're bitches to get down to the point of being able to play it with any real emotional vitality, plus it's so much more rewarding to make up your own, that builds character. I just learn all the riffs and bits & pieces of the solos, and then improvise to an album. As far as my prefered band to jam to, that's any band with long, simple groovy songs, not to many complex changes (makes for hard soloing sometimes). But it's best to go for variety, that builds character, too.

i notice no1's mentioned george thorogood, the doobie bros., iron butterfly, the animals, srv, journey, styx, the moody blues... etc. what are some of ur favorite lesser know classic rock artists?

it makes total sense when it comes to your taste. overated is just a term people use when they either are afriad to like a band or have some kind of bias against them for whatever reason, we all think it about some groups. i enjoy my Cream albums and other bands from the same time period, but the doors overall sound dosent sit right with me. Lotta poor man make a five dollar bill
Keep him happy all the time
Some other fellow making nothing at all
And you can hear him cryin... - Cumberland Blues

I been ballin' a shiny black steel jack-hammer
Been chippin' up rocks for the great highway
Live five years if I take my time
Ballin' that jack and a drinkin' my wine - Easy Wind

Ripple in still water
When there is no pebble tossed
Nor wind to blow - Ripple

W00t, let's get some BOC talk started. Right now I only have one of their albums, a compilation actually, Workshop of the Telescopes.

Get BOC, T & M, Secret Treaties, On Your Feet Or On Your Knees (Live, brilliant!). Also, the two newest ones, Heaven Forbid and Curse of the hidden mirror. And Extraterrestrial live (worth owning for Veteran of the psychic wars, if you like the studio version, this will drop your jaw, seriously, I have rare footage of this from when they recorded the live album, really is jaw-dropping,no exaggeration) And the new live album. I reccommend the DVD though, check out the way Buck plays guitar! Heres Buck's Boogie (live) (http://blueoystercult.com/Studio/BOCBucksBoogie.mp3) from the DVD/live album 'A long day's night'. They're getting better with age, and still tour regularly (will be seeing them in London in June!)

Rock on.

yeah no one responded to my BOC post :( . Honestly, im not a secret treaties fan. Weak song writing IMO. I love Spectres, Fire of an unknown orgin, self titled, agents of fortune, heaven forbid, etc... but secret treaties is always a let down to me. As for songs, im big on the "spectre" tracks as well as the majority of songs from their self titeld album (im on a lamb but i aint no sheep) and i had the fortune of seeing them last fall in a small casino club room...very great show. :)

Let's see,
1)Career of Evil. Musically, quite standard, but lyrics are pretty darn funny.
2)Subhuman. I like this, but the best version is on 'On your feet or on your knees'.
3)Dominance and submission. I really, really like this one. Never heard a live version that does it justice though. Love the lead work, great song. The way that the 3 guitars layer themselves before the final solo is very cool indeed.
4)ME 262. Okay, good lyrics, but the '5 guitars' version on 'On your feet or on your knees' wipes the floor with this version. That's all 5 of them on guitar kicking *** on this song. Wish I'd been born a couple of decades earlier to see that.
5)Cagey cretins. Solo came out of nowhere, one of my favourite of Buck's solos. Short, but very sweet.
6)Harvester of eyes. Best version is on 'On your feet or on your knees' (Check out the energy in the solo just after Eric shouts 'Huh! Alright! Get down!" Excellent.)
7)Flaming Telepaths. I like this too, I like the songwriting on it,and the guitar.
Theres a different re-recorded version on Cult Classics (which I'm trying to learn at the moment, btw) which is also very good.
8)Astronomy. Studio was good, but best version is on Cult Classics. Just after 'don't froget my dog, fixed inconsequent' the solo starts, slowly, one note at a time (about 1 note each 2.5 seconds) and builds up to an intense, speedy (about 7 notes a second, I guess) excellent solo (half of this versions 9 minutes is the end solo, with two small solos earlier in the song) that really is great.

But first album is probably my favourite. I agree with you on 'I'm on the lamb but I ain't no sheep. That really does demonstrate Buck's underrated skill. Also Before the kiss, a redcap is a favourite. Dual guitar leads is cool too.

Can't wait to see them live....

I think supertramp concerts would have been great too, I was told they had the light shows and everything going before that kind of thing became big. But the who had some wild concerts, so I still think they're at the top of my list.

classic rock is becoming popular in my school. zeppelin, van halen, the who, grateful dead, ac/dc, and hendrix are the most popular, but there are other good ones.

Now that we are well into the new millenium alot of rock bands from the 80's are considered classics, and Def Leppard although having a differnet sound that lets say Queen, they to me are a rock band who are considered a classic, just a different kind of classic rock. in sure 15 years from now, people will consider Soundgarden classic rock, it will just keep expanding.

There are lots of good british bands but not all the best ones are british (isn't ac/dc australian?). The doors, Hendrix experience, Rush, BTO, The Guess Who, CSNY, Band of Gypsys, etc etc.
