Like as soon as I woke up as wasn't in touch with the world yet, I pulled out the guitar and played with Hendrix music. As in Hendrix Jam. It sounded really good today.
EDIT: A few rappers I enjoy are Kanye West, Talib Kweli, and The Roots are good too. But that's only because they have talent. They don't just throw words together. Its complicated.
That's about it though. I don't listen to much rap, and its usually only in my car anyways.

You sound like just another band over come by trend. If your going to cover a great song play a rather unpopular one so dont be trendy. Resist the trend!!!!! ........or your be no different than all pop bands that sound the same.

Also I only chose Zeppelin, because thats what the people at this fair (freshman dorks) would wanna hear. I'd rather play some Cream songs and Yes, but nobody knows them.

Rock not roll: I'll comment on your review later right now I'm reaaaaaaally tired.
Don't do the most popular track off of any zeppelin song. So no Dazed and confused, Whole lotta love, Immargrant(sp) song, stairway to heaven, d'yer maker, kashmir....
I suggest doing The Ocean. My friends and I like to play it.

The Ocean Is an awesome one. My band does it. The best thing to do with it is make it your own, don't keep it the way it is. Our version is faster, I throw in more bass drum (I think 32nds work really well with that song). The vocal solo is done on guitar with backing bass (and a second guitar) and drums keeping the whole thing moving. We also shorten the end and have no vocals but it's awesome.

I honestly wish I could tell you. For that song I'm not sure. I know hotel california is aolian (sp?) A or B. I know his teacher does stuff though where he'll give him a scale, and play rhythm and get my guitarist to improv. But I can't tell you the scale of most songs we play (I'm beggining to learn some piano and I know alot of theory but in general I don't worry about it.)

The Zeppelin and Floyd ones are Pentatonics, and I'm just now learning the modes, so there's not much more I can do. Hey Joe uses the e minor pentatonic, so I can improv with that, but not all of Hendrix's stuff uses them. As for the Eagles I'm not sure.
Cream and Pink Floyd use Pentatonic on every song. Fun to play with.

Ya, he did at first but we were like, uh no, stop you're killing it. I don't know about the seppelin stuff though sorry :(. I do know however that The Ocean has a wonky time signature, in the verse it's one bar of 8/8 followed by a bar of 7/8, repeat that four times. It took me a while to explain this to my bandmates though, You don't notice just listening to it but when i was transcribing it I relaized it. Since they just used tabs though they didn't notice and were playing it wrong.

First off, every freshmen who wears classic rock shirts in my school has yet to prove to me they are a true fan, so that's why I say "stupid freshmen", or something similar, when I'm refering to the poser kids. SECOND off, JC Penny's is a fine place for shirts, because the "posers" don't know about the shirts there, and Pennys has different rock shirts than Hot Topic (where all the kids go). LASTLY! Well, if you want floyd related, then you have to do Live @ Pompeii as well.
Its more of a concert type of thing, you just watch them play the songs with snippets of interviews here and there. But they rock (it's floyd, they always rock).

Badmoon's Cd recommendation:
Phil Lesh and Friends - There and Back Again
Here's the line up, this should make you excited enough
Phil Lesh (Grateful Dead) - Bass, Vocals
Warren Haynes (Gov't Mule, Allman Bros, ect) - Guitar, Vocals
Jimmy Herring (Allman Bros) - Guitar
Rob Barraco (The Dead, Zen Tricksters) - Piano, vocals
John Molo (Jazz is Dead (I believe)) - Drums
The album has tons of catchy tunes, many written by Warren (One even about Garcia), Phil and Former Grateful Dead writer Robert Hunter, and even one by Garcia.
For now on, when someones wants to reccommend an album, do so.

Just thinking about CSNY... how they werre CSNY, then Neil Young went off for his own solo career, then they were CSN, then they sorta went their own seperate ways and played together sometimes and now while Neil Young is still doing the solo career thing SN, I believe, just got back together and did an album. Fun how you can start as a group of four, be a group of three, a group of two... and all the while, after the lack of Y from the four, a one (Young). Random thoughts at a random time of night.

Dark Side of the moon is not the best floyd album. If you really want to get into floy first get the wall. Then Wish you Were Here. Then Animals and then Meddle.

It did, I let them use my kit, but because we had family friends over I coulcn't stay the whole time, I basically went, played and left. But there were many problems. My kit was poorly set up, The snare fell over in the middle of purple haze because someone decided to loosen some part of the stand when they set it up, My bass drum wasn't properly set up so it was moving and I had to stretch my foot very far to reach the pedal. There was more stuff too but man, playing a song like purple haze with your snare falling over = tough ****.

I was at lunch the other day in school, and this kid I sit with wanted me to listen to one of him Cd's he brought in. It was from some new band that I forget the name of. Anyway, the riff sounded way too familiar to be made p by that band. It was killing me for 2 days, then a light bulb went on and I realized that it was the riff to Substitute by The Who. I was uber pissed.

Whats the big deal with "A day in the life" by the Beatles? I've heard it's considered one of the best rock songs of all time, but I wouldn't even consider it the best beatles song.
Because it's beautiful, quirky, happy, sad, has John singing, has Paul singing, ect...
I may go to Chicago Jazz Fest tommorow :D

But I'm a substitute for another guy
I look pretty tall but my heels are high
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young, but I'm just back-dated, yeah
Pretty cool song considering I'm not a fan of The Who

^(badmoon)It also has, I believe, the longest held chord on record - that last, rollicking E chord to end the song. How long is that, like 16-30 seconds?
^(still badmoon)I wish I could be going to the Chicago Jazz Fest tomorrow. How'd you manage that as a possibility?
^(actual above poster) The Who is, in my opinion, a great band. Good song, by the way.
(to no one)Does "Rush" count as classic Rock, perchance? Because I'm wondering how in God's name he sings like that. I heard "Closer to the Heart" on the Radio the other day and had to tell myself that was a guy. (Note: another guy who sounds like that is the guy from "Coheed and Cambria", but they are not Classic Rock. No C&C discussion.)

Lucky, I heard they're gonna be covering a whole bunch of compositions by Thelonious Monk one of the nights. Not sure if that's tomorow or when. HAve a good time if you go.

Sigh......There are no jazz bands or jazz festivals in Cleveland. I'm stuck with good old rock and roll(Not that it's really a bad thing really, RnR Hall of Fame!!)

Goddamn, I love self-indulgent, 15+ minute songs. Something about 'em, I dunno. :)
Now playing:

I like my jazz song 6 or 7 minutes long. Over 15 minutes is just excessive.

I didn't say anything bout self-indulgent jazz, hun.
That song I posted earlier is over 17 minutes, but the length is really the only reason I called it self-indulgent. But yeah, most people probably don't share my view.

I made a joke "free ipod" thread. It was obviously not serious, but I guess a mod felt a spam thread was enough for a perm ban. Meh, no biggie though, it's just internet.

I'm sure you'll be unpermed eventually, making this system completely hypocritical, but it wouldn't be the first time.

I didn't toke up before, because my dad and brother ended up coming as well, to see another band there. I don't think they're very well know, because they pretty much play in the michigan/ohio area.

Okay
Well, for one, what does one hope for when reading a book about a man who was lived a very wild life like Jerry Garcia has? Good/interesting stories. And the book includes them, and even more so than I expected. The book puts tons of emphasis on each of his projects, and just overall life. More facts than one can count, and the book just kept me reading. Not the best Grateful Dead related book I've read (Living with The Dead is), but it has renued my love for them, and for Garcia.
7.9/10

I give your review a 2/10. It was good, but you forgot the name of the book and author! Fatal mistake.

ehh this has gone off topic a bit...this has gotta be the most successful rock metal thread yea? but anyway has anyone seen the newest Led Zeppelin DVD. I thought it was great, ive never heard them live before, and when jimmy page used the violin stick on the guitar! that was soo cool, how creative. I managed to watch the whole thing through in a single night, it was just too good to come back to another time, what did you all think of it?

I just came back from a Peter Finger concert, not quite classic rock, but if any of you have heard of him, hes a f'ucking ACE acoustic guitarist. Im still in a daze from how good he is.
