well at least some of us have our heads on straight. it's a start. i'm wanna see some band come along and revitalize the classic rock style...
The post after this said something 'bout the darkness, which are in a mission to bring happiness back to our sad world of music. My band is full fledged stoner, and we got this whole thing going on cuase I just hate punk, metal, and whatnot and whatever is out there. I think we need to bring back bongos, trance music, and acoustic/electric stuff, cause I do not see more of that out there.
More old bands you'd like are:
Ten Yeras After
Jimi Hendrix Experience(and plain Hendrix ,too!)
Iron Butterfly
Jefferson Airplane
Peter Frampton
Yes
Peter Gabriel/Genesis
The Police
CREAM!
Moody Blues
J. Giles Band
Fleetwood Mac
Robert Palmer
The Doors
Derek and the Dominoes
Styx
Journey
Foreiner
Blues Image
Pnk Floyd
Syd Barret(solo work)
Psychedelica(Slightly newer band with old taste)
Sly and the Family Stone
The Who
Prince and the Revolution
The Hollies
The Kinks
that's all I can name off the top of my head, there's way, way, way more.

Nice list :thumb:
About The Darness. Yeah they are fairly talented and fun and good sounding but they are nowhere near some of the first clasic rock bands so unless they play a concert near me I won't really care about them.

^ not my favorite of bands, but they do mix certain genres and do it nicely.
B0nz0
03-31-2004, 08:22 PM
i think jethro tull is quite unique enough to deserve a spot. and i quite like dire straits, though i dunno enough of their material to say they deserve a slot. lynyrd skynyrd might though. i really would love joe cocker to get in as well. it's only a matter of time before black sabbath is in of course. way too influential to keep out. and i would love to see deep purple grab a slot...
FrailandBedazzled1979
03-31-2004, 08:25 PM
Jethro Tull are among my favourites. so many differnet feels within one band...bluesly, folk rock, synths, its just so diverse from era to era with thim. their mid-late 70's were my favourite era with "a minstrel in the gallery, a passion play, warhorse, songs from the wood, and heavy horses".
B0nz0
03-31-2004, 08:33 PM
and they have a flute, can't forget the flute...
Badmoon
03-31-2004, 08:35 PM
Each band you have all named will probably soon enough get a spot. Keep in mind that the hall of fame has nor been around as long as you might think. They are still probably trying to enter the obvious canidates.
B0nz0
03-31-2004, 08:38 PM
yes i know. i wish i understood how their process of admitting ppl works better. do u happen to know the criteria? also another band i think deserves a slot are the moody blues...

"Performers
Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist’s contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.
The Foundation’s nominating committee, composed of rock and roll historians, selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of about 1,000 rock experts. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes, and more than 50 percent of the vote, are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year."

I do see how you could say that among teenagers there is a revival of interest in classic rock. I see a lot of kids last year that listened to mainstream rock and punk who are moving closer and closer to hardcore classic rock fans.
In my highschool I think I was OG Classic rock, I was all about Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and the Band going into eight grade, and got a lot of my friends turned onto that stuff. Now I'm going back further into jazz musicians, old blues players, latin jazz, bossa nova, and new stuff like the mars volta and modest mouse. A classic rock band that no one has mentioned yet that is absolutely stunning is Santana circa 1970. Abraxas remains one of the most genius albums ever made, even if his songs now suck you cant deny santana was a genius back in the day.

Members - Jerry, Pigpen, Phil
Song - Cumberland Blues, Dire Wolf, Sugar Magnolia
Album - 1.) Workingman's Dead 2.) American Beauty, it's a close call

Funny, I think it is only me and you (Vodoo) and Bonzo, that know and are really into The Grateful Dead on these forums. Though that is probably not exactly true.

it would be cool if we could do the same thing with my favorite band the beatles:
favorite member - George Harrison
favorite songs - penny lane, revolution, hey jude, here comes the sun, while my guitar gently weeps
favorite album - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
thoughts - easily the best band of all time. no other band was ever able to put together such a huge amount of songs of the quality that the beatles did. this is why the fab four will always be remembered as the greatest rock band of all time. i don't think anyone will ever pass them.

let's do it with the great led zeppelin next

favorite songs - the ocean, over the hills, stairway (duh), dy'er maker, bron yr aur stomp, and heartbreaker
favorite album - how the west was won, followed closely by IV and physical graphiti

^Mitch Mitchel was awesome. Hendrix was the reason why they were huge but everybody is always saying that hendrix was the only talent and that is just not true. Listen to some of Mitchel's backing drum beats and try and say that Hendrix was the only person who made that band good. As for the bass player, I can't even hear him :p

Album: Led Zeppelin (self titled).

Members - Dickey Betts, Duane and Gregg Allman
Songs - Blue Sky, Melissa, Ramblin' Man, their cover of Sugar Magnolia
Album - Eat a Peach
thought - They were a few years late for what would be the time period they would fit into well. They're a great jam band and each musician is fabulous.
I don't know them well enough to do one of these :(
I'll just start a side conversation on that stupid rolling stone'a 100 guitarists list. There is no freaking way Jack White and Kurt Cobain are better than Eddie Van Halen . And also notice how mostly classic rock guitarists and blues guitarists (which is like classic rock's brother) go on tha list?
Badmoon
04-02-2004, 03:39 PM
^ I actually think they didn't do to bad. The flaws they did make were huge though. Some guitarists like Townsend, and Blackmore should have been higher. I'm glad they included Stephen Stills and Ry Cooder, they're the two greatest slide guitarists.
jimmypumpkin
04-02-2004, 04:07 PM
^^^^
Not trying to start an arguement, but what's so great about Townsend? I think he's a phenomonal song writer ("Tommy" is amazing), but as far as his guitar plaing goes I don't see what's so great about it.
But I agree that Blackmore should've been higher.
Badmoon
04-02-2004, 04:35 PM
Well for one he did pioneer power chords. Of course he had great solos, and broke some grounds that were never thought of or have been explored. I'm sure there is more, but I cannot think them. I'm not sure about what place he deserves, but he should definatley be a above Cobain, White, Garcia, ect. Though Jerry Garcia is fabulous.

I'm really curious to know what the next work morrisson would have done and the next work zeppelin would have done would have turned out more than anything. Morrison just because of the whole fuss around him before his death wonder how that would've turned out and Zeppelin because i heard they're next album was to be a rockier sound as they had in there first few albums, apparently they felt their newer stuff was becoming to polished. Now ofcourse there are others i wish had never passed aways and who i'm sure would have come out with more great music but those two i'd be the most interested to hear, whether or not they turned out to be the best.
I would like that. But it will never happen.

Here's some big news for Classic Rock fans
The remaining members of The MC5 are going on tour, and to replace to two dead members (Smith and Tyner), they got Mark Arm from Mudhoney to play rythm guitar and sing. Now it won't be as great as The MC5 would have been if they had all the members, but I love Mudhoney, and I'll bet the tour will be great.

When I was 13, I got on the band wagon, meaning Nirvana, Marcy Playground, etc. I'm not proud of it, but it happened. When I turned 15, I got AC/DC's Back in Black. It completely changed my life. 4 years later, I've collected every AC/DC album, numerous Who albums, Zeppelin, Rush, Van Halen... the list goes on. I've converted many of my friends, who no realize the error of their rap loving ways.
As the great frontman Brian Johnson once scribed:
~Rock and roll ain't noise pollution, rock and roll will never die~

Haha, yeah Plant's voice is always either hit or miss for me. Sometimes I can't stand his voice, but sometimes I love it. I love his voice on the first album, but I'm not really a fan of it on the later albums.
I like Robert Plant when he stays within his own range! Stairway to heaven is good singing.

Stand up bass on "bron yur a stomp".
To me, his Keyboards/Bass lines enhance LZ's music like no other. ive told several of my friends to listen to their favourite LZ album and focus on JPJ and afterwards they all had a new respect for him. his knowledge of the neck and his speedy style of rock/blues bass is one not found in music often today. as for his Keyboards, i think his stlye inspired alot of the keyboard works in the 1980's electronic type rock bands.
Anyone into his solo work, i saw him on his "Zooma tour 00'" and it was fasntastic!!!!!!! I loved it, also his "thundertheif" album is remarkable, he sings on here as opposes to Zooma. I have an expeneive Vynal of his 1985 movie-record "scream for help" with guest features Jimmy Page and Yes' Jon Anderson. John Paul Jones is one of my biggest inspirations. :thumb:

well ringo always kept it simple, which i actually find to be a good thing in many cases, look at phil rudd of ac/dc. his simple playing greatly enhances the music. and if it doesn't add to the music, it takes away...

i dont listen to any modern rock bands... except for the darkness, only because they sound like classic rock... there is only 1 downside of being a classic rock fan, you wont be able to see very many of your favorite bands live. id pay anything to see a zeppelin concert. im really into classic punk too, like the ramones or the sex pistols.
favorite classic rock bands:
led zeppelin
pink floyd
van halen
ac/dc
the doors
deep purple
guns n roses
jimi hendrix
kiss
black sabbath and ozzy osbourne
who
aerosmith
rush
queen... and more
not only do i like classic rock... but i like listening to it on vinyl... and that was way before my time. i prefer LPs over cds dont ask me why.

Old & In The Way,
Yes!! Wonderful band.
are banjos similar to play compared with guitars?
DVG.
To a minor degree. For instance you usually finger pick, and some use finger picks some don't. The banjo also many choices of strings 4-12, I believ. I have a 5 string. So, there are not huge difference but enough to say there are, and enough for a musician to be good at the guitar but bad at the Banjo.

Ah, Bob Dylan. I consider him as one of the greatest musicians ever. He has contributed so much to music and a lot of bands/musicians wouldn't have been the same without him, i.e Beatles. His voice was amazing and unique as was his harp and guitar playing. His song-writing skills were undescribeable(sp?). Overall he was jsut an amazing person in the music world. I'm a BIG BIG BIG fan of his and I think everybody is thankful of what he brought to us, the listeners. Bob Dylan, God bless you.

Here's some more names I came up with(some (or all) of them might be really cheesy):
"MX Lizard Kings"
"MX Children of (the) Floyd"
"MX Warlocks"
"MX Old & In The Way"
"MX Midnight Riders"
"MX Jokers"
"MX Day Trippers"
"MX make something up too cause all of mine suck probably"
"mx old farts"
"mx classic kids" (might work with a bit of a tweak)
"mx Woodstockers"
"mx classic rock horde* (nah but it's worth throwing in)
Why can't we be a death metal clan? We would already have something along the lines of "mx death mongers" or some foolishness like that.

Overall it's just hard to pick a good name for our clan. The titans of thrash have it easy. Their clan is Slayer, Metallica, Dream Theater, and Megadeth(i'm pretty sure). I like it. But that may not be quite right.
I like the van but let's remember that classic rockers and hippys are different.

I just got the "Jimi plays Berkely" Jimi Hendrix dvd and... It's amazing! like 2 hours worth of flawless live Hendrix. I wish I was alive when he was alive so I could see him in concert :(.
Well anyway main thing is he rocks live. I'm going to try and see the Allman brothers band because it might be the closest I could ever get to Hendrix (guitar wise anyway).

You should try to find Jimi live at Monetery Pop. That is also fabulous. I have yet to see the Allman Brothers, but I hope to soon. They have two of the greatest guitarists. Duane Allman(dead), and Dickey Betts, who is very underrated.

 Yea, Erowid is a very cool site. It's very educational and tell you all the right info about drugs, etc. Before I was gonna try acid for the first time and read every single page about acid on that site. Gotta stay smart and be prepared for what you're gonna experiance.

Well, anyway I guess I'll start. It all happened at the begining of last summer. Some of this is sketchy since it happened a while ago but bare with me. Me and my firend Blake are the ones who were going to do this. He got 4 tabs of blotter acid from one of his friends and were gonna do it ona weekend at his house. His sisters and mom were gonna be gone the whole day so it was perfect. I remember it was a really nicee day outside and we planned on goin outside when we got bored with stuf do do inside. We took one hit of acid each and thennwent up stairs to watch tv. i can't remember what was on. Anyway nothing happened for a while, i think it was about 40 minutes since we took the acid and nothing was happenin yet. We did'nt think nothing of it so we went downstairs and started playing ps2. i remember the game. itwas gran turismo. very fun racing game. i recomend it. So we were walking down the stairs and i swear I jsut started feeling different. Nothing major but jsut different. It was cool. We were playing for a few minutes and then I looked at blake from the corner of my eye to tell him this was getting boring but when i looked at him it was like he wasent there and then he appered a second later. His body was jsut flickering in and out of my vision but as soon as I turned my head to look at him fully nothing was happening. I tapped him on the shoulder to tell him about what just happened and he looked at me and just started starring. He said he could see a glow coming from me. I can't remember what collor he said it was but he said there was a certain glow surronding my body. I tried to concetrate and look at him but nothing was happenin. So we continued to play the game but nothing interesting happened wit the game. We turned it off and started walking around the house to see if we could make something "come out". We went back up stairs to the family room and started looking around. A big painting of some fruits caught my eye. This is where everythign got weird. I looked at one of the fruits and I saw it jerk. First it was a small jerk and then it started rolling adn it rolled out of the picture. I tried picking it up but it kept rolling away and i couldent catch it. It got out of my vision and I gave up. For some reason I started feeling very very sad because I failed at catching the fruit. I needed blake around because i felt so lonely. I started yelling for him to come and he ran over. When he got close to me I started feeling a lot better. This undecribeable feeling I had earlier became more intense and I felt more attached to everything around me. I felt like i was conected to evrything arround me and I could relate to everything. It was an encredible feeling. We went downstairs again and turned on some music. I think it might of been pink floyd and zeppelin. Im not sure.. We both layed down on the floor and we started talking. we talked about our friendship and it was a trully bonding expiriance. As a little more time passed I look at the cieling carrefully and I saw something. The ceiling had little barely noticible riple goin thru it. And it was goin with the beat of the music. I asked blake to turn up the music but he said he couldent go with out me. i felt the same way. We both steppe up and turned the music lounder. We went back and layed down on the same place. I looked up at the ceiling again and the ripple were bigger. I asked Blake if he could see it too but he dident answer. I knew he was still there and really into it. I dident wana bother him. I kept looking at the ceiling and I tried to control the patterns. I tried closing my eyes and I could still se the ceiling. It was amazing. I was closing my eyes and i was controling the ceiling. I concentrated and imadined it into a beutiful sunset and I was amazed by it. The CD ended in what seemed like 15 hours and it was one of the greatest times of my life. I asked Blake if he wanted to come outside with me. We went into his back yard and sat down. We dident like it for some reason to we went up on his porch. We got relaxed on his lawn chairs and we started talking again. His back yard is bassically a field of grass almost footbal field size. I was looking at the field and an incredible thing happened. The grass was weiving back and forth by the wind but it was weiving into shapes an letters. I looked at one of the desighns and i oicked out my name. I felt very good inside and felt eve more connected now. I was still looking at the grass and now it stopped getting turned left and right by the wind. It started growing. I told Blake if he saw this and he said he did. We both stood up and watched the grass grow. It was begging to take shape into something and we were waiting right there. It started turnig into steps that led into the sky. It was incredible becasue we were listening to zepplein earlier. maybe stair way to heaven made way deep inside out minds somehow. We both ran back down strairs becasue we wanted to go up to the sky to heaven. when we got on his yard again everything was gone. The grass was normall again. We felt so robbed. We just felt incedibly sad and incomplete because we missed this chance. After this it gets hazy. I remember we went inside and turned on the tv again i think. Then we both got extreamly tired and we fell asleep. I cant remember anything but waking up the next morning. We both felt normal and we went on to eat breakfest and to talk about our expiriances. I never got to finish those two other tabs with balke because he did it with another friend. I wasent mad tho. Me and him are planning to do it again this summer once or twice. Well, this is my story. This is how it happened and I'm trying to tell it as good as I can. A lot of the story is sketchy because this happend almost a year ago. Go ahead now, ask me questions or whatever.

See I'm worried if I do it, they say you can get a "Bad Trip", and being that you are extremely sensetive I'm scared that it would completley freak me out. Anyway to avaod that stuff?

Plan like crazzzzzy. Make sure you do it in a safe place like your house. Your first time you want to do it in a quiet, relaxing place. Make sure while your tripping your parents or whoever you don't want home aren't gonna come home. It helps a lot if you have a sitter: A non-tripping person that could reasure you everything is alright if you're freaking out. If your gonna put on music make sure it's peaceful and relaxing, not like Slayer or something. Stay inside or in the back yard if you want to not freak out. People sometime sget freakde out by traffic or some suspicios adults outside. That's why me and Blake stayed in his back yard. Just use common sence if you go thru with this. You'll be fine.

since there's only four of us, why don't we pick a classic rock quartet like the beatles or the who, or i guess we could even do csn&y and each pick a different member, and put that member's face as our avatar.

**** right hehe.
by the way, no one replied to my Queen question i asked a few pages ago!! i asked what Queen songs and albums you all enjoyed. also, which member wrote some of your favourite songs, i picked John Deacon for tracks like "who needs you" and "spread your wings".
I seriously need to get into queen more. I have heard very little from them and I feel like i'm missing something.
Song requests please.
