Sweet :)

Yeah, the lineup.

Against Miik!
08-29-2004, 06:24 PM
Greg, Warren, Butch Trucks and Jaimone on drums, I think his name is Marc Quiones on percussion, Derek Trucks(Butch's nephew), and Oteli Burbridge on bass. In the middle of the concert, Oteli just did this 10 minute bass solo thing. It was believe in or not one of the highlights of the concert. I think he is probably the best new member of ABB, meaning he is the only one who exceeds his predecessor in talent. Warren and Derek are great obviously, but nothing beats Dickey and Duane.

Okay, so... I was with my mommy at the mall (stfu) and there were at least 30 kids with Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Ac/dc etc.. shirts. my god! I mean I knew it had become trendy to like music from the 70s but this is just out of control.

I could out quiz all of those people on any of the bands that they wear on their shirts. I always hated the word poser, until now!

Christ man, I know what you mean. I went to buy some new shirts today, and I couldn't find one shirt that I hadn't already seen on some gay freshman last week. It was sickening. I'm ready for this trend to end.

Wonderful that's just what I was hoping you'd say.

Speaking of Trucks, it's good to see a slide musician who actually has a reason why he's playing a slide (Other than just the twangy sound) and has adapted his style to it.

The only trendy t-shirts around where I live are really Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and maybe Floyd. (The same "Stairway to Heaven" Zeppelin noobs Woodstock and I were discussing in the LZ thread.) So I'm currently hunting for a Who t-shirt. While not a rare band people haven't heard of, they have very few t-shirts so wearing one usually means your a real fan. Maybe an Allman Brotheres t-shirt too.

I dont think there will ever be a band as good as the beatles because they had three songwriters who could have all easily been Bigger than anything before but lucky for them they were all in the same band. i dont think as much talent could be packed into one band nowadays. Notice on the later albums they all started to explore in thier own directions but they still made **** good songs.

Anyways, the best of is jiberish. How can you throw songs from the wall and mix them with songs from DSOTM? It just doesn't fit. Sometimes there are good greatest hits. But with Pink Floyd, each album has a certain atmosphere and theme so if you take bits from each and put them together, it looses a certain feel which makes Pink Floyd unique.

I can understand getting best of albums even for certain great bands because.. 1. You may not have known much of their stuff at the time 2. You may not be able to afford very many CD's 3.Sometimes albums are just impossible to find.

How can you say things like that about the Who?

I don't care about your fights with anyone else, I just feel you've underestimated the Who, one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever.

Pete Townsend was a great guitar player. No, he isn't Petrucci, but tons of modern guitar players are inspired by him. His style was more based on the power in his hand, rather then the effects he could use, and Who songs are very distinct because of this. You can tell a Townsend strum, its his calling card. Not to mention his ability to write songs is nearly unmatched. Not to mention, he was able to blend so well with the very active rythym section he had, playing a style that accented them, rather then taking over.

Keith Moon, may he rest in peace, will always be known as the original crazy drummer. His speed and style still retain their uniqueness to this day.

John Entwhistle...jeez...one of the pioneers of the bass. The stuff that guy would do still amazes me....I'll never forget the first time I heard the bassline on Pinball Wizard...wow.

Roger Daltry was a great frontman the same reason Plant was a great frontman...not because of singing ability, but because of lyrics and style.

The Who were also one of the great songwriting bands...right up there with The Beatles.

I hope you'd give The Who another chance.

I got into classic rock by listening to my dads old records. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Grateful Dead, The Velvet Underground, The Who, The Doors, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Van Morrison, The Jimi Hendrix Expierence, Black Sabbath and many many more. I credit these bands for introducing me the to music at a young age. Most of the bands that come out today say they are influced by rock gods such as Zep but how can they really say that when they only play pop punk or something like techno? I agree with those of you who want to hear a new band that actually sounds classic and gets back to the realy roots of rock n roll.

Yeah, uhh sorry about the posts last night, I was in a severe beliggerent drunken rage, but I still dont like Miik or respect his opinions.

Back to The Who however, someone said that Moon was the "original crazy drummer," when it was definitely John Bonham. In Drummer Magazine like 6 months ago they had an article on Bonham, and they directly said that before he started playing hard and heavy, other drummers had attempted it and just sounded like crap, but after he showed drummers how to play hard and skillfully, Moon came along and started the same style, so they said that Moon was the second drummer to do it well. I dont dislike the Who, as I previously indicated in my drunken blathering, but I honestly do think they are extremely overrated. They have their moments, and are a talented band, but they didnt produce enough good music to be considered one of the best.

Cooper was the fsecond day of rock in the park (or the hawk rocks the park or whatever you want to call it the rock festival in london), and healy played at the blues fest in london, and there was a way to get stage level about five feet away for free, best seats in the house.

They have their moments, and are a talented band, but they didnt produce enough good music to be considered one of the best.
uh no. For starters moon predecesses bonham.

Secondly moon and bonham have very very different styles. Moon enjoyed "surfer music" and it was part of his insparation, he has a very untamed style, he's quite off the wall with his drumming much like he was in life.

Bonham on the other hand was more tame as most drummers are. He was a solid player and a more powerful player. He makes great use of his bass pedal (single) and has become quite known for it. Keith is known for his off the cuff, untamed good fun style, Bonham is known for his harder, more powerful (and much more tamed) style, and for his use of the single bass.

John bonahm was not the original crazy drummer. Keith moon was doing his crazy long before he even heard of bonham.

No, I'm not being sarcastic. I'm not calling Moon a bad drummer either. The Who > Me. I'm just making the point that most people learn an instrument, and they either get to a certain point and stop, or keep learning. Moon had to teach himself how to play drums every time they recorded an album. You'd at least think alot of musicians would keep their instruments on hand. If anything, it's a compliment. Imagine teaching yourself to drum like THAT, many times over. Amazing.

David Bowie has to keep a lyric sheet in front of him, he can't remember all his songs anymore.

They were both (more blues though). They obviously has blues elements like all rock bands at that time. But they were also country-ish.

Well then why are they always preaching alabama? In their live performances they mention it like 10 times.

That's whats puzzled me for quite some time.

Kieth richards is the driving force in the Rolling Stones and he is blues man at heart (look at his covers of Robert Johnson) and in turn its hrd to classify the Rolling Stones as anything other than Blues, not country.

Yep. The best thing about the stones is catchy riffs. Have good songwriting and a good singer and you have yourself one of the most popular rock bands of the 60s (and some 70s I think).

I can't stand listening to the whole 40 Licks CD. I think a reduced version would have been better, it just drags on.
