View Full Version : The Beets (from "Doug")

This is a fictional band, but their sound is still so awesome and unique that I can't help but praise them on here. What's the deal with a band made up just for a cartoon show being better than half the modern rock and nu-metal junk that's so popular today?

Songs include "Killer Tofu," "I Need Mo' Allowance," and "Shout Your Lungs Out." The band members include Monroe Yoder and Chap Lipman (great name!)

What are your thoughts on them?

They rock.

^ For some reason I can never remember that song. The most obscure thing I can remember is that on the album cover "Beets Me" you can see a microscopic photo of Chap Lipman after his gall bladder surgery. Or at least I think that's what the question was.

the best song on doug was the one doug and skeeter made it was like..
bangin' on a trash can

I like them. I don't have any of their songs on my computer though.....

Yeah that's right pixiesfanyo. I think.....

Does Nickelodeon still play Doug?
Last time I heard they didn't, they just play reruns of Sponge-painfully stupid and so unfunny you'll throw up-pants.

EDIT: I don't remember 'Where's My Socks'........

EDIT: Hah, that's funny. They're made up and they really are better than a lot of very popular bands....

Doug was a great show. The Beets were a great band, even though they were a cartoon. Funny how a fake band who was making fun of popular culture is actually alot better than it.

Now I've got Killer Tofu stuck in my head. :thumb:

I was talking to someone in school today about the Beets. :p A lot of the lyrics may have been silly and repetitive, but overall they rocked. "I need mo allowance, yodelayeeeeoooooo....why?! becuase I doooooo" :)

The Beet's Lyrics:

"I Need More Allowance"
I need more allowance, yodelayeoo
I need more allowance, yodelayeoo
I need more allowance, yodelayeoo
Why? Because I do
Yodelayeoo, I need more allowance
Yodelayeoo, I need more allowance...

I need to buy some CDs
I need to buy some gum
I mow the grass, I clean the house,
I think I deserve some...
some more allowance

(Repeat chorus twice)

"Shout Your Lungs Out"
Whoa, you gotta whistle
gotta rumble
gotta scream
You gotta scrumble
You gotta sho-o-o-ut your lungs out
You gotta hum
You gotta yum
gotta clap
You gotta roll
You gotta sho-o-o-ut your lungs out

You gotta roll your windows down
You gotta rock your socks, you gotta roll your soul, cause the vocal chords, you gotta lose control
(repeat)

Whoa, you gotta whistle
gotta rumble
gotta scream
You gotta scrumble
You gotta sho-o-o-ut your lungs out
(that's my favorite :) )

"Killer Tofu"
Fast food feels fuzzy
Cause it's made from stuff that's scuzzy
I always thought I was such a nerd, I refused to touch that strange bean curd
I wouldn't eat it, WOW!
But it ate you!

Aeeoo, killer tofu
Ooeeoo, killer tofu

I eat my sugar cereal
but it makes my teeth bacterial
Eayeeoh
eeayee
If you're feeling kind of cruddy
just stick right by your buddy
and don't eat, t-t-t-t-too much fried food, yeah

(Repeat chorus)

Also, the yodeling thing came after Doug reached a compromise with principal Bone that would allow the Beets to play at their school if Bone's yodeling group could open for them. The Beets saw the yodelers and decided to add "yodel-ay-de-hoo!" to the chorus of their song. Don't mess with me!

well, technically they were a fake band...but still, the shows producers had someone come in and sing those lines, and that person must still be performing somewhere. YOu can find out who that guy is by just reading the Credits on a Doug show (or finding em on the net)

also try calling nick studios...hahaha..

Good luck trying to change it from MP3 to MIDI...I don't think it can be done...there are WAV to MIDI converters, but that probably doesn't work too well either..

Fool, those weren't better than Doug! The only programs that could possibly beat them would have to be other cartoons. It's a known fact that the best shows ever were animated, and only another awesome cartoon could top another awesome cartoon.

My little cousin was singing a combination of Good Charlotte's "The Anthem," the Rocket Power theme song, and something else. It's sickening. When I was his age, I was beatboxing to Doug. Werd.

Ah! Real Monsters! rocked as well. Nick started their downward spiral when Disney got Doug and made a movie of it. Then, the Rugrats movie came and that was the nail in the coffin. Also, a significant turning point in Nick is when they started using a different way to show you want was coming up next. It used be like a cube that would spin.

Also, they still show Rocko when they run a commercial/thing that says coming up next. It has alot of characters including Doug and Rocko in the background, it creates such false hopes :(

Doug = legend. I fancied Beebee so much. Im sure Porkchop was the prototype for Brian from Family Guy. I dont think anyone has mentioned these Nick shows - Are You Afraid of teh Dark? Count Dracula, Where on Earth is Carmen San Diego, Hey Arnold, Alex Mack. Ah, i wanted to be on Global Guts sooo bad

WoEiCSD was on public TV, as I recall. And I don't belive I've ever heard of Count Dracula.

I know you mentioned the Pete and Pete theme was by Polaris, but the title is "Hey Sandy" if anyone was looking for the song.

Also, I wanted Clarissa so bad when I was like 6. That Sam kid who came in through her window on a ladder must have gotten some serious *****. How I envied that kid.

Also, does anyone remember Nick Arcade? You like played SNES and Sega Genesis games against each other and then if you win you get put in some ghetto video game. That seemed so hi-tech at the time...

Zappa

Nick Arcade was really cool, but I remember having trouble catching it whenever it was on.

That's a terrible thing to say about Clarissa.

I think I might pwn everyone in this thread. I OWN Polaris's (the pete and pete band) tape. I got it from sending in like 10 UPCs from some cereal. Three tracks: all killer, no filler.

No no there was this (kinda) serious live-action show about Count Dracula in which he was head of some eeevil mega corporation. It also had Van Helsing as an old man but he was helped by his niece and nephew i think. Can no one else remember this?!

Shizzle, the kids tv showed that ruled all others was The Odyssey. You know with that boy who was in a coma and he was in some wierd dream world but it was also kinda linked to the real world in some way. I cant really remember. Im not sure if it was on Nick though

Ughhh I miss this show to death. . .they no longer play re-runs of the show on Nick anymore; but if anything, it's extremely rare. For a fictional band, their music was great as been mentioned several times already. Actually, lots of songs from "Doug" were so catchy and easily got stuck in my head as a little kid.

I especially enjoyed that one song from Doug and Skeeter about "banging on a trashcan" or something. . .I think it was the "Think Big" song.

Anyone remember the huge Rubber Band ball? Or the bubble gum thing they used to do?

EDIT: Was the rubber band for his birthday? I think his mom gave it to him or something...

I remember nothing of "Salute Your Shorts"...

Salute your shorts was a show about this summer camp (maybe not summer, but definitely a camp). The camp was called Camp Anawanna. It had loveable characters like token fat kid Donkey Lips, random prankster Budnick, and the nerdy Sponge, although there were many others. The main antagonist/villain of the show was the moderately totalitarian camp counselor, Ug. Yes, his name was Ug. It had a pretty memorable theme song from the perspective of a 6 year old, too:

Camp Anawanna
We hold you in our hearts
And when we think about you
It makes us wanna fart!

Ah, the days when fart humor was hilarious... **** nostalgia...
