I really like it. It contains some gloriously happy pop moments. I just hope Ginger doesn't take too much of this to the new Wildhearts effort.

I like what I've heard of it, but that's only been a few songs. It appears to be a good buy though.
I'm hopeful for the new album. I suppose any Wildhearts is better than none.
My HMV's in Manchester have it. Though somebody had covered it with an Atreyu album. Which I moved.

True.
Sort of on-topic: Have you heard the God Damn Whores yet? I've heard they're supposed to be really good and it is a Jon Poole project so it most likely is. I'm wondering whether to buy it, though. Only £8.00 from amazon.

I heard the track they had up on myspace a while ago ("We're the New Gods", I think), and I'm pretty sure it was good. I don't have the album yet though, no. Apparently the Japanese version has three worthwhile bonus tracks.

The HMV in manchester us great, i don't get what the deal with everyone saying HMV is more expensive then everywhere else? bollocks its not, especially with student discount. Cept the categorising in HMV sucks. Look under metal and there a whole bunch of pop-punk and punk bands there?
Last few albums i bought -
The View - Hats of to the Buskers.
Klaxons - Myths of the Near Future
Jamie T - Panic, prevention.
^^I dig the latter 2, although the Klaxons record didn't really come off as well as it could have done.

When you translate the Japanese HMV page using google them come out as "(bonus track/truck)". I quite like the idea of a bonus truck.
"Genre:Lock" Awesome.
"With HMV Japan the music book movie game and in addition large number we handle the related commodity."

Which one are you talking about? I know of three and suspect there are probably more. It's probably just easiest for them to lump everything into really broad genres. Saves nitpicking over what genre is and it makes it alot easier for people to find sttuff.

The big one on market street. I find thats best in general, but the little one at the bottem of market street is good for Live band DVDs. The one in the trian station is meh though.

I never go to the train station one unless I have alot of time to kill. The two on Market street are good. I think I probably like them equally as they tend to have different stock which is useful in sales.
Has the Music Zone closed yet? It'll ruin my system of going from HMV to Music Zone to Fopp to HMV. :(
Ah HMV is kinda annoying, but I tend to check their selection anyway. I usually shop at Fopp or my local record store Spillers Records.

The 2 music zones near me have shut. However through the shutters I could still see all the CD's on the shelves so I considered about breaking in.
The Klaxons album like I predicted is a bit meh. Some good songs, Atlantis to Interzone is a perfect indie pop song and I'm liking Gravity's Rainbow.

I've quite liked Music Zone ever since I managed to pick the the Beta Band's Three E.ps for £3.97 or something. I hope they haven't gone bust :(
Oh yeah, I was amazed when I first found Fopp. I can go there and have a constant supply of classic albums for £5 that i've always meant to pick up but never really got around to it. It's great for books aswell, so many classic soft-backs for only like £3.

Srsly. Speaking of such sexual malfeasance, can you recommend me any good perhaps overlooked glam albums/songs from the early 70's for which I might buy sometime in the nearish future? I might be DJing at a drag party in a few weeks, they could come in handy.
Dave de Sylvia
03-15-2007, 04:40 PM
hahaha
Um, you'd probably be better off going for singles collections and stuff if you're DJing. In that case, The Sweet are a must, Mott The Hoople of course, and The Raspberries, who weren't really glam but sure as hell sounded like it. If you really want full albums, try Desolation Boulevard, Mott and Raspberries, but you'd still be missing out on some great tracks.
You also need Hanoi Rocks' Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Hanoi Rocks, because it's 70s in everything except reality, and the first Mötley Crüe album because it's not often I can trick someone into doing that. If you want a real wild card, pull the Crüe's cover of the Raspberries' 'Tonight' because, apart from pissing all over the original, it's just an amazing dancing song.
Also platform shoes.

In the last week I have bought,
Ryan Adams - Demolition
Frank Turner - Sleep is for the Week
FBTMOF - The Always Open Mouth
I dig the FBTMOF but its definately for a certain mood as those genres are not ones I listen too regularly. Sleep is for the Week has some awesome tracks and a really upbeat feel, I can tell it will become a regular in my collection. As for Demolition, I am still deciding. I'm a big Ryan Adams fan, but i'm not sure I like this as much as the other records I have.

I might get Beck, it's not something I'm too strong about.
I will get Temple of the Morning Star, I just wanted to listen to it before purchasing. AMT would be cool to own, but eh, the music's alright.

How is that? I heard one song ("We Are The New Gods", I think?) and it sounded good. I should get that album already.
And what do you think of Outlaw?
We are the Lucky Thirteen took a few listens for me to appreciate it, but it has really quite grown on me. I reminds me of, what little of them I've heard, The Cardiacs, surprisingly. Worth owning, I'd say.
Outlaw I really quite like. It has a few iffy tracks but stuff like 'Have you Seen Bruce Richard Reynolds' and 'Keep Your Shades On' are cracking songs. Probably ranks above Power in the Blood but just below EoCL and La Peste for me. I'm quite looking forward to whenever their new album is coming out and I'm fairly certain that I'm gonna go and see them in September this time around.
Grand Magus - Wolf's Return
What'd you make of this? It's probably my least favourite of theirs.
Last bunch:
The Wildhearts - Fishing for More Luckies
Johnny Cash - Original Outlaw
Johnny Cash - I Walk the Line
The Yo-Yo's - Uppers and Downers
Prince - 1999
Mr Scruff - Trouser Jazz
Bill Hicks - Shock & Awe

Well it's the only album of theirs I own, but yeah, it's alright. I do find myself going back and listening to the individual tracks (especially "Summer Solstice") I got from you in your thread ages ago more often, though. But for the price I paid for it, I'm happy to have Wolf's Return.
Hope you do get to see Alabama 3, by the way. Hope I do, for that matter. Only seen them once before, but they were great. Glad you like Outlaw, too.

I tend to ignore DVD's though but have a habit of buying them if they come with the CD. Plus it was only $10, so I thought 'why not?'

borrowed these four from the library this afternoon
Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain: LA's Desert Origins
Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
The National - Alligator
Fantomas - The Director's Cut
I wish my library was good like that. The best thing mine has is some gospel music and a couple Beatles albums.

Yeah, WR has a few good tracks but it's nothing amazing. Their earlier releases are much better. I'm fairly certain that their debut has been re-released with a few bonus tracks on it.

They'd be worth seeing purely for the sake of Devlin <_<
Incidentally, my trawlings on RYM have led me to believe that you have acquired a Devlin bootleg CD. How/where did you find this?

It was on sale at their merchandise stall when I saw them, they had a few non-official CDs there. It's a pretty good album, though not really bootlegged. In between the support act going off and Alabama 3 coming out themselves, Devlin took the stage with an acoustic guitar and sang a few songs, supported on a few by one of the other guys with a harmonica, and the CD is that material.
I rather like it. My sister managed to find herself a copy on eBay (on my orders, so she'd stop stealing mine), otherwise I don't know where it's available.
Solomon Burke - Proud Mary
Sam & Dave - Soul Men
Meads of Asphodel - In The Name of God, Welcome to Planet Genocide
Yusef Lateef - Eastern Sounds
Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem - Come Fill Your Glass With Us
Been looking for that last one for ages.
