Inhuman- The New Nightmare
A-F records 2003
A few weeks ago I decided to order several cd's from a-f records webpage and decided i may as well check out the Inhuman CD having only heard 1 song from it. I now consider this cd to be one of the best of my collection. Inhuman is something that hardcore and punk fans should enjoy.
As you can probably tell by the name or the cover of the cd the music has a darker sound to it and is written exclusively in minor keys. The band sounds like sheer terror, sick of it all, and the misfits. They play a blend of NY Hardcore (they are from brooklyn) but still carry a melody. They even have an istrumental song "Nightmare".
Having been around since the mid 1990's they have realeased various records and EP's. This is their freshman release on A-F records and is by far their most intriguing record to date. The guitar plays deep flowing guitar riffs that are almost essential for anyhardcore band, but he is able to make it sound very clean and smooth yet keeping the distortion level near the max. I find I am also very fond of the drum work on this cd because of the use of the bass drum and toms. The drummer relies less on a repetitive snare drum and more on a powerful bass drum. This proves very true for the song "Sinister" during the second chorus where he uses a double kick bass drum which does a great job of complimenting the descending minor scale guitar riff.
Pro's +
- Dark songs that manage to carry a great melody
- Amazing drum work
- Guitar, Bass, Drums and vocal fit great together
- Great flow to the songs
Cons -
- Only 28 minutes
- The song Killing Me. Which is completely different than the entire album. This would be a fine song but when listening to music like this you don't want to get all full of darkness and than hear a love song.
Favourite Songs
Uprising- A great opening song to the cd. Lyrics are wonderful about -you guessed it- Rising up.
Brooklyn Bastards- Fast paced song with one of the best chorus ive ever heard from a NYHC song.
Sinister- Slower, heavier song. Awesome double kick on the second chorus that fits perfectly with the guitar.
I would give this CD a 4.25/5. This CD is definatly a must have within the punk/hardcore genre but is probably not going to be thought of as great by people outside the genre. Inhuman- The New Nightmare
