I'd say my favorite Testament song is Into The Pit. Play that on a 85 degree day with a few of your friends around...

yeah Manowar is power metal. I used to laugh at them. Still do, but I respect them. C'mon the Gods made Heavy Metal!

and to the hail Cronos guy, lay down your soul to the gods rock'n'roll. I never get tired of Venom. Say what you will about them. They kick Slipknot's *** any day of the week

MOTÖRHEAD have set a June 22 North American release date through Metal-Is Records (subsidiary of Sanctuary) for their as-yet-untitled new album (the previously announced title, "Flash", has now been scrapped, according to the band's webmaster). The cover for the CD is once again being provided by esteemed cover artist Joe Petagno

The organisers of the legendary Dutch festival, Dynamo, have announced the line-up for this year's event.

The one day heavy metal festival is due to be held on Saturday, 5th June in the Goffertpark in Nijmegen, Holland.

According to the festival's official site there will be a total of 14 bands appearing over two stages, "pretty much in the same set-up as in the year 2000 when Dynamo was held at the same location."

Confirmed acts include:

Slayer
Life Of Agony
Dimmu Borgir
Nightwish
Deicide
Soulfly
Children Of Bodom
Ill Nino
Mastadon

Tickets are 50 Euros. The gates will open at midday and the first band goes on at 1.

For more information, visit www.dynamo.nl. However, for those of you in the UK, you will have to chose between Dynamo and Download - as both are on the same weekend! Place your bets now!

Ahoy Thrashers & Thrashettes,

Sorry I ain't been on lately putting in my input. I have a good reason.... I've been in England for the last 3 weeks and not had much access to a computer. I'm still here at the moment, but I'll be back in Aus in a few days. Like a natural Thrasher I've been getting wasted everynight (no puking though!) and having a good time.

Something I have noticed about England that I didn't before I left.... There really is no Thrash to choose from. Where's the JB HI-FI in England? HMV only sell one Exodus CD! one ****ing cd! it really is shocking. Anyway.... what's been the subject here lately? I can't be arsed reading back 100 pages.

It does suck that I can't find any Testament or Exodus CD's without going online. It pisses me off that people don't realize anymore how great thrash is, and how talented one is to perform it. I'm surprised that people said my old band was a good thrash band.

Not automatically, but still their best. My favorite thrash album, if you couldn't tell. If you saw them live, you'd be surprised how well John Bush can sing stuff from that album.

Back to the thrash band thing, everyone here probobly remembers me talking about it, and have read my lyrics. I just wrote a new song that would definately open up a show well. I also helped write the music for an instrumental called The Screams of the Martyred, which includes some prose behind the instrumentals, kind of like what Slayer did with In The Darkness Of Christ. Anyone want me to post these on my lyric thread?

TESTAMENT have now officially confirmed the departure of guitarist Steve Smyth. The group's statement on the matter is as follows:

"Like a previous announcement, we would have preferred to break the news to the fans, first. You are getting the official statement right here!

"TESTAMENT and Steve Smyth have amicably parted ways and both sides remain good friends. TESTAMENT would like to wish Steve all the best in his future endeavors, and Steve would like to thank TESTAMENT for a memorable five years he will always cherish.

"The band has been continuing work on pre-production for the next album, as well as making preparations for the upcoming tour in June. We will have another official announcement soon, so keep checking back."

As previously reported, it is believed that former HALFORD/current PAINMUSEUM guitarist "Metal" Mike Chlasciak is the leading candidate to fill the slot left vacant by Smyth's departure. It is presently unclear if Chlasciak would be joining TESTAMENT on a permanent basis or if he would only be assisting the group during their upcoming European tour, which is scheduled to kick off in early June.

Smyth, who has been playing with TESTAMENT since 1999, is believed to have left TESTAMENT in order to join NEVERMORE on a full-time basis. Steve has been performing with the Seattle-based group as a session/touring guitarist for the past two years and is said to be more compatible with the other members of the band (on a musical and personal level) than has been the case with any other session guitarist NEVERMORE have ever had.

I hope they get "Metal" Mike Chlasciak he is a very good guitarist

Im not THAT into anthrax really, but ive been getting into them a lot lately cos of their gig I went to last night. there was this local screamo band, killswitch engage, soilwork, and anthrax. the Anthrax gig was quite funny really, there were problems from day one. ADelaide was their first gig in australia, and their gear was left in Japan or something. So they had to buy all this gear from a local music shop. Then the guitar, bass, and other guitars stuffed up, then there was a fight in the crowd and the singer jumped in. the guitarist (scott ian) told him to get the **** out (the guy who started the fight), and everyone cheered. it was great. Soilwork were quite decent, their pop/death metal style is cool.

After months of trading verbal jabs with his former bandmates, frontman Philip Anselmo appears to have finally softened his stance with regards to one day sharing the stage again with ex-PANTERA guitarist Dimebag Darrell and drummer Vinnie Paul (both currently in Damageplan). Asked in a live phone interview on the "Friday Night Rocks" show on New York's Q104.3 Friday night (April 23) if he could ever see himself collaborating again with the other former members of PANTERA, Anselmo replied, "I think I see it more than they see it. I would have no problem at all, if we were in the same town and their band was playing and they wanted to play some PANTERA songs, I'd be a man and suck it up and [go up on stage and] do some PANTERA songs [with them]."

Anselmo's current band, superjoint ritual, are in the middle of a headlining tour which will take them to Davenport, Iowa Saturday night (April 24). The group will follow up a main-stage appearance at this year's Ozzfest with additional touring in late summer and a return to the studio in the fall to record their third full-length album, tentatively due in early 2005 through Sanctuary Records.

Maybe your just listening to the wrong bands check out Exhorder then you'll realise how stupid that comment above is.

maybe you should get a sense of humour. many great thrash CDs were released after 1989, like Metallica - black album.

and exhorder suck. check out Megadeth - rust in peace if you want a good album after 1989. Or, of course, judas priest - painkiller.

AARON27

er, i was the one pointing out the fact that many good thrash albums were released after 89 remember you were the one that said thrash sucked after 89 so whats with the advice, i already own rust in peace for many years as i'm sure all thrash fans do and as for the black album and painkiller there not thrash

You said 'check out Exhorder' which is possibly the worst advice I've ever received. They are a poor man's version of pantera.

I just read a biography on Chuck Schuldiner. He was so cool. Without even hearing one Death song, I'm going to buy some of their albums. and the ****ING MAINSTREAM DIDNT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE HIS DEATH!!!! DA MN THEM TO HELL!!!

anyway.

this dude who goes to TAFE with me, i saw him at the Anthrax gig. he is the biggest metal head ever. i told him my most metal thing ever (That tommy baron from coroner plays on two kreator albums) and he just goes 'yeah... i knew that' i'm like 'dude no one that i've talked to before even knows who coroner is!' it was a great moment. unfortunately like me, he plays bass, as does the only other metalhead in tafe, so we cant start up a band!!! but he's burning atheist - unquestionable presence for me. and im burning coroner - grin for him. (Im so metal, Im one of two people in the whole world that i know of that own that CD)

Thrashmaster27: what are some good second hand CD stores in Melbourne????? I'm going there in June and i'm bringing $250 to spend just on CDs! (the other $750 for alcohol of course!)

Exumer: are excellent (as i think i have said before :p) I have Possessed by fire that we can trade on our next expodition. :p

Melbourne: has some great 2nd hand shops. I think there are about 5 used shops inthe CB, and a chain store called 'Dixon Recycled' that has 5 shops spread throughout the suberbs... When i went to melbourne, i just asked at an information booth if there were any used CD shops around, and the young lass was very helpful indeed! (also a butt load of used vinyl - I swear i saw about 100 slayer vinyls in the one city :p)

Question:
I know this is kind of goofy, but I was thinking.
If we Titans would put on a concert of thrash covers, who would play what? Would we have more than 1 band, or have people rotate. Hell, the only people that I know what instrument they play in the Titans is GPB, and that's a dead giveaway. Anyway, someone post if they have the answer to this.

Man! Anthrax should have been better!

They played far to many songs from the Bush era, which was disappointing to say the least. One from Fistful Of Metal (Panic), 3 from Among The Living (I am The Law, N.F.L., Caught In A Mosh), 1 from Persistance Of Time (Got The Time) 1 from State Of Euphoria (Anti-Social)

The rest were songs from Sound Of White Noise, Stomp 442, Volume 8 and W.C.F.Y.A. I would have been happy if they played more from the recent album, but they only played one off that aswell! I was gutted when they didn't play Metal Thrashing Mad, Make Me Laugh, Gung Ho, Indians, Time or In My World. Plus! Joey Vera couldn't even do the Bass Solo in Got The Time! what a rip. The sound was good mind you and I was getting into it, I just would have preferred some better songs! Metal Thrashing Mad should have been played.....it just has to be. My first time was definately the best time.

My Anthrax review:

They played tons from their new album, We've Come for youall, which was disappointing since I havent heard it, so i couldnt follow it. they didnt play Among the Living!! Even though I yelled it out about 10 zillion times. They played got the time, and he tried to play the bass solo, but it sucked. And in Caught in a Mosh, he didnt do the high bass bits! What a tool, i'd be better than him. they played NFL and I am the Law too, and they played Metal Thrashing Mad, their only song from Fistful of Metal that i have heard :). Overall I was pretty disappointed actually, thank god I was drunk enough to like it! But i reckon Soilwork were better. so yeah.

random comment: whats with Black metal having the words 'night' and 'northern' in their song titles and album titles all the time?

NP Opeth - Closure.

And im good at bass (im modest too) I can play Donna Lee by Jaco Pastorius. 240 bmp quavers baby. I can play 280 bpm quarter notes as well (on the E string) thats like... 1120 notes a minute. Im a gun.

Guess what is finally on the way?

I'll finally be getting Darkness Descends and R.I.P. by Dark Angel and Coroner. I've heard much of both albums, but I will finally own them very soon. I wanted Peace Sells by Megadeth, but they are out of stock. Peace Sells and Dress Like a Target (Superjoint Ritual) seem to be the first two covers me and my drummer friend will play.. jammed for the first time yesterday. It would help if he wasn't so addicted to Counter-Strike. Well, whatever, it went well. I need a second guitarist tho, otherwise the ending parts of Peace Sells don't sound nearly as cool.

Bad list. Not enough Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, or Old Metallica, or Exodus, or Testament.
Run out of bands? Try these songs on for size.
Anthrax-Metal Thrashing Mad
Anthrax-Caught in a Mosh
Anthrax-I Am The Law
Anthrax-What Doesn't Die <-The video for this song kicks ***.
Exodus-Toxic Waltz
Exodus-Like Father, Like Son
Exodus-War Is My Shephard
Exodus-Metal Command
Testament-Eyes of Wrath
Testament-Practice What You Preach
Testament-Sins Of Omission
Metallica-Orion
Metallica-Whiplash
Metallica-Disposable Heroes
Metallica-Creeping Death (mostly for crowd participation)
Megadeth-Wake Up Dead
Megadeth-Hangar 18
Megadeth-Return to Hangar
Slayer-Disciple
Slayer-Spill the Blood
Slayer-Raining Blood

Some of the stuff on that list isn't near thrash, Manuscript. Meshugga is industrial, Venom is Power Metal, Sabbath is Metal, and I haven't the slightest idea who Quo Vadis, and Celtic Frost is, but they sound more like black metal. Take a cold shower and drink some coffee next time. Someone want to include the songs I put in, and mix it with the best stuff Manuscript put in? AND WE NEED A DRUMMER!

Veteran San Francisco Bay Area thrashers TESTAMENT have announced that former HALFORD/current PAINMUSEUM guitarist "Metal Mike" Chlasciak will be handling lead guitar duties for the group during their upcoming European tour "The guys jammed with Mike over this past weekend and had a great time," reads a post on the group's web site. "Also, the band has been continuing work on the next record. A lot more later!" Chlasciak joins TESTAMENT as a temporary replacement for Steve Smyth, who left the group earlier in the month in order to join NEVERMORE on a full-time basis.

You know what you have to do... Go back to the Thrice thread!!!

Bad list. Not enough Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, or Old Metallica, or Exodus, or Testament.
Run out of bands? Try these songs on for size.
Anthrax-Metal Thrashing Mad
Anthrax-Caught in a Mosh
Anthrax-I Am The Law
Anthrax-What Doesn't Die <-The video for this song kicks ***.
Exodus-Toxic Waltz
Exodus-Like Father, Like Son
Exodus-War Is My Shephard
Exodus-Metal Command
Testament-Eyes of Wrath
Testament-Practice What You Preach
Testament-Sins Of Omission
Metallica-Orion
Metallica-Whiplash
Metallica-Disposable Heroes
Metallica-Creeping Death (mostly for crowd participation)
Megadeth-Wake Up Dead
Megadeth-Hangar 18
Megadeth-Return to Hangar
Slayer-Disciple
Slayer-Spill the Blood
Slayer-Raining Blood

Some of the stuff on that list isn't near thrash, Manuscript. Meshugga is industrial, Venom is Power Metal, Sabbath is Metal, and I haven't the slightest idea who Quo Vadis, and Celtic Frost is, but they sound more like black metal. Take a cold shower and drink some coffee next time. Someone want to include the songs I put in, and mix it with the best stuff Manuscript put in? AND WE NEED A DRUMMER!

Moron!
1. I don't have enough stuff from Slayer and Megadeth huh? Well, why did you list the exact same number of Slayer and Megadeth songs as me then? My god.
2. There are other bands except for Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, or Old Metallica, Exodus, and Testament. I would list 35 Slayer songs if I could, but I happen to like diversity. I'm not really into Anthrax. Old Metallica sucks, Kill 'em All is their only good album. You are not good if you like 'Old Metallica'. Haven't heard enough Testament to really list to many songs either.
3. Venom are Power Metal? Since when? Moron.
4. If you listened to Meshuggah - War, you would discover that it is an awesomly awesome thrash song. Moron. Same with the Celtic Frost song, and the Quo Vadis song is a fast mother****er. Which is what thrash is all about, right? SPEED!
5. If you read my comment next to Sabbath, It says "I've run out of thrash bands" or something. Moron.
6. My list pwns yours.
7. You listen to nu-metal. So don't even think about insulting anything of mine.

Speed? I hope you don't mean speed metal, but anyways... Now just where do you think the speed of thrash came from? It didn't come from the influence bands like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest had, that's for sure.
I also did not say that thrash WAS punk, but that punk probably had the biggest influence... bands like Discharge and Bad Brains.

Yes, I meant speed metal. SNM is just as much speed as it is thrash.

The name, album, and lyrics of Necrophagist are total Carcass rip-offs, but the rest of it isn’t really that carcass-influenced other than drum machine and vokills.

And as for the part about ‘kid metalheads’, I’ve heard it all and like (almost) all of it, but thrash still >>> all.

Okay, so we have a little Judas Priest and some other NWOBHM bands... that still doesn't take away from the major punk influence.

I said lyrics aside. They aren't very important anyways, seeing as they grew out of those kind of medical Carcass lyrics... and Carcass has nothing to do with drum machines.

Yeah, I told him and another guy off. I was raised in a multi-ethnic town, so I see all people as equals, but lifestyle is another issue. If a black man does nothing to escape the foolish ways of the ghetto, then he's nothing but a loser, and no one should strive to be like him.
