there's not any apparent venom influence? slayer pretty much worshipped venom and NWOBHM, especially on that album. "witching hour" was one of the first songs they learned how to play.

Venom pretty much sucks too. Especially when compared to the when Slayer was the greatest metal band of all time.
All you need by Venom is Don't Burn the Witch and Buried Alive, the rest is pretty meh.

I forget to mention the song In League with Satan. Damn that song is awesome, but yeah, there's so much more better nwobhm bands than Venom. At one point I thought they were godly, but nah, they bore me nowadays.
Slayer on the other hand, still my fav band after all these years.

actually, they weren't 'demoing' in the late 70s. and they had 3 albums to their name by the time slayer had 1, so clearly demos have nothing to do with anything. yes there is an obvious venom influence (you'd have to be a total musical retard like austin to not pick that up) but no you would not call it worship.
Black metal is a good album and I like the first minute of At War with Satan, but Welcome to Hell bored me.

i tend to go with whatever album i hear about is their best. for Destruction i was told it was Inventor of Evil. it's an amazing album, but right now Antichrist is my fav of theirs that ive heard. im def going to finally get their earlier albums. if theyre still making great thrash albums then im sure im going to like their early albums just as much

you seriously need to hear some early destruction. basically everything before "nu destruction" is good - that is everything up to cracked brain. particularly eternal devastation, sentence of death

im definitely familiar with their early stuff - about 3 or 4 years ago i listened almost exclusively to underground metal, and had the majority of their early material then. i started listening to metal again about a year, maybe a year and a half ago, and destruction was one of the bands whom i for some reason neglected to once more acquire.

Some guy over on Thrash Unlimited said that the album is surprisingly good; very moody/atmospheric (like Seasons, I guess) and made it seem that besides Psychopathy Red, the other two released songs don't do the entire album justice.
